I think this is 70's cheese, by the way. But cheese is great no matter the decade! |

Yep, I was ten, and that ad campaign scared the hell out of me. You know the one I mean? The baby's bassinet slowwwwwly turns as the lullaby music plays, and then the claw hand is revealed!! Terrifying to my 10 year old brain.

STRAW DOGS (1971). John McCarthy in THE MODERN HORROR FILM considers this a horror film and I must say I agree. A little flawed and slow moving but picks up quick with a rather nasty rape scene and the final segment at the house is incredibly intense and quite frightening. Dustin Hoffmann is great as the smug pacifist who is driven to his breaking point by a group of violent drunken louts and lovely Susan George has never been better. This came out around the same time as A CLOCKWORK ORANGE and while I like both films, think SD still packs more of a punch. **** |
Halloween (1978)
I give it a thumbs up! |
Silver Bullet (1985)
I think it's only the second time I saw it. Didn't age that well. And movies need more Gary Busey. |

AMOK TRAIN AKA BEYOND THE DOOR 3
A group of students travel to Serbia to witness an ancient ritual. Unbeknownst to them, one of the girls is to be offered as a bride to Lucifer. We see her in the shower and she has an unusual marking across her torso plus its made known that she is a virgin. They escape the peasant village they are staying in and most of them are able to jump on a passing train. The train then becomes possessed by a demon trying to bring the girl back. I liked it. |

I always found it sad that a lot of those actors just appeared less and less. Happens every time I watch an older movie. You notice these decent actors and wonder what happened to them. |

The Howling
Used to be my favorite werewolf movie......until I saw Dog Soldiers |
THE LEGEND OF BOGGY CREEK (1973)
May be some spoilers here............... First saw this right before turning 12 and scared me quite a bit, especially the part involving the cat and the two families. Saw it a couple of years later with some friends and we were all laughing at how campy it was. One bud, who had a very catchy laugh was howling during the part where the monsters arm goes through the bathroom window when the one guy is on the toilet. When said guy busts through the front door to escape, my friend literally fell out of his seat. Seen today through my cranky middle aged eyes, TLOBC is still pretty silly, but has a quirky charm about that makes You like it. Pretty scenery and really, You could do a lot worse. *** |
WAVELENGTHS 1983
This is a science fiction about a young couple who find aliens held captive in an underground army installation. The girl is able to communicate with them with her mind. The aliens are not frightening and actually look like bald young children. There is a great soundtrack by tangerine dream. |
The Mutilator (1985) - 7/10

MOTEL HELL (1980). Pretty grim premise is lightened by extremely humorous turns by Rory Calhoun and Nancy Parsons. Decent little time capsule with 8 Tracks, HUSTLER magazine, two PLAYBOY Playmates and Wolfman Jack adding to the fun. ***

I watched Hide and Go Shriek last night. I still think it is one of the standout slashers from the 80's. It tried to do something a tad different with the slasher formula and some great tension and atmosphere was created with the furniture store location.

Krush Groove (1985)
Wow, I can't believe I waited 44 years to see this one. 9/10 El Topo (1970) It's been about 15 years since I've seen this. Still insane. 10/10 |

PARASITE 1982

TOURIST TRAP (1979) Starts out pretty decent, then gets into TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE territory and quickly runs out of steam. The mannequins were quite creepy and Tanya Roberts::love::! A missed opportunity, for Me at least. **

The Blob 1988
3/10 It had some nifty 80's-dated FX and Shawnee Smith's pretty face... but nothing else. It was more of an homage to other sci-fi films without being the least bit thought provoking. Or it's a bit of a parody to The Blob, without being the least bit funny. Very poor character development -- didn't care about, nor even believe, in any character. Wasn't scary, and built little suspense -- though I do applaud the phone booth scene. It even miffed on it's chances at some sci-fi wonderment, which, for The Blob, is just inexcusable. I've always liked it when the scientist, stands before the generals and president, explains the creature and how we're all in big trouble. They didn't even have that. |
Put in my Pieces (1982) DVD the other night to see if I needed to upgrade it to that sweet grindhouse bluray that just cam out/coming out. The movie is great.

Patrick 1978
I really enjoyed this movie as it had a lot of suspense and thrilling scenes.
As I was only 11 when I first watched this movie, I used to think that if I had to work in a mental institute and come across someone like Patrick, I'd surely crap myself. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VoojGwJxlH...ATRICK-008.png |
My parents let my brother and I watch Salem's Lot when we were 12. It's been burnt into my skull ever since. I was watching CHiPs the other day and one of the Glick boys played a child kidnapped in a car. Credits said it was 1980 the year after Salem's Lot.

FLESHEATER-1988. Downright awful flick that tries way too hard and doesn't succeed the majority of the time. Enjoy low budget flicks as I appreciate trying to do your best on little $$, but other than an amusing "In-Joke" towards the end, pass on this. *
