Wolfcop -- 7.5/10; Second viewing, still cracks me up.

Werewolf Rising -- 3/10; Must say the werewolf looks great. Too bad it's underused.

Baron Von Marlon 02-25-2015 06:09 PM

Big Hero 6 (2014)
Meh. Not funny enough and too childish.

The Transporter (2002)
Jason Statham doing what he does best.

The Transporter 2 (2005)
And here too.

The Transporter (2008)
Here a little bit less.

Crank 2: High Voltage (2009)
Second viewing since it was released and I think I like it more than the first time.
Part 1 was already over-the-top and with part 2 they just said 'fuck it, let's go fucking mental'.
I'm still hoping they make a third part.
If you haven't seen Crank, I highly recommend it.

Damn Heathen 02-25-2015 09:49 PM

Digging Up the Marrow -- 1/10; Didn't dig it, not at all. There is only one thing worse than the standard microbudget mockumentary: the self-referential microbudget mockumentary.

The heart operation scene is soooo nasty. (We need a puking smiley)

The Heart Machine 2014
6.5/10

When Cody begins to suspect that the Berlin woman he's been dating long distance might live a lot closer to home, he sets out to uncover the truth.
Saw this on Netflix. Has nice production value, shot well, good background music soundtrack. It's uses a 'hands off' modern 'documentary' realistic story telling style, as opposed to the heavy handed hollywood romantic comedy overacting style.

I liked the characters (not to mention the female is lead stunningly captivating). The mystery & investigation is OK, doesn't go into those unreal hollywood twists (like the chic is a terrorist). I was invested, and was looking forward to a big 'confrontation' between the two main characters. I don't think I'm giving anything away if I say they do meet (or else people would seek out a destroy the filmakers), but it was much too anticlimactic, short & simple for me.

We have war documentary aficionados here?

History in HD: The Last Bomb (netflix)
8/10

Quote:

Rarely seen combat footage takes viewers along for the 21st Bomber Command's long distance strikes on Tokyo near the end of World War II.
Documentary detailing the US Military's processes for final months of bombing of Japan. Gives a good slice of the setting, bombers, strategy, footage of bombing & dog fights, and day-in-life of the pilots.

Frontline: Battle Zones: Ukraine & Syria (netflix)
8/10

Quote:

Go inside the politics and fierce emotions driving the conflicts in Ukraine and Syria, two of the 21st century's most beleaguered battle zones.
Fascinating look at the daily on-the-ground situation in Ukraine (& Syria). Chaotic civil war, violence & revenge. If you're interested in getting a feel of what it's really like there, & the real 'whys', I recommend it.

I find that scene funny.
The only bit I found a little gross was the guy with his bowels out.

One of the worst movies I ever watched, made no fuckin' sense what so ever. I am a fan of low budget indie films but c'mon have some kind of structure.

It just looks bad!!

Faultless from start to finish.
The gore, the depravity was amazing.
FX perfect.
Storyline, sick.
Embodiment of perfection.

This one looks interesting to me, I've never heard of it.

A decent haunted house story that would've been original 15 years ago.

Hmmmm.....I want to give this one a try.

Annabelle (2014)

Some good jump scares but a bit of a disappointment. I went into it thinking this doll could rival Chucky but not so much. I kept waiting to see Annabelle actually up and in action.

Frankenstein vs. The Mummy -- 3/10; Well, at least the mummy looked good. Apparently, if you hit a mummy in the head, it'll ring sonorously like a glass jug.

Armistice. Very well acted. Well shot. Some plot holes, but shrug. It was a decent watch even though you'll probably figure everything out by the middle of the film. Its still worth watching. 3/5 stars.

Baron Von Marlon 02-27-2015 09:39 PM

Jigoku De Naze Warui aka Why Don't You Play In Hell (2013)
"A renegade film crew becomes embroiled with a yakuza clan feud."
Nice, smart movie with some good dry humour, awesome violence but shitty CGI blood.
If they went the old school way, the battle could've been epic instead of pretty cool.
Still worth a watch imo.

Varsity Blood (2014)
A masked killer, jocks and cheerleaders in a below average slasher.

I don't get all the low ratings.
True, it could've been better. But it with a title like that, you kinda know what to expect.

Therefore it should get better ratings?

I fail to see the reasoning in that.

I'm not saying it's a valid reason, I'm just surprised is all.
To me it just seems that a lot of people had high expectations for a movie called Zombeavers.

BIRTH OF THE LIVING DEAD (2013). OK doc on NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD that really won't tell you anything new about Romero and the film-indeed, it spends more time discussing the Vietnam/Civil Rights parallels than on how the film was made. Worth seeing, but it feels like it belongs as a Special Feature. And what is with the teacher showing the film to a bunch of pre-teens as part of class::shocked::::confused::? **1/2

A teacher showing it to pre-teens? That's inappropriate. Public or private school? Hope they got parental permission in triplicate with notary-public. ::sad::

Making too much out of social parallels to Night of the Living Dead seems very nonacademic to me -- being it's completely subjective. I'd rather see a making of - that could include Romero talking about his "intended parallels".

Banshee Chapter (2013)
http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2840/1...07d4c41963.jpg
Pretty watchable pseudo found footage with heavy Lovecraftian influences. A reporter teams up with a Hunter S Thompson look-a-like to investigate a disappearance involving some MK-Ultra experiments.

I was very sceptical about this Indie horror but I am happy to be proved wrong. This is a nice pretty unique* teen horror that doesn't cater to the lowest common denominator.
