I sent my list. I didn't include anything that made the original two HDC 100s just to try to get variety in.

For those of you who haven't seen it, I suggested Kakurenbo.

If Oldboy and Co. gets accepted, I'd like to add Tony Jaa's "The Protector" as it shows the horrors of elephant killings in asia.. and it's damn good.

Its your turn to be shocked, Angra, but I completely agree with you.

Read the thread from the beginning. It was my "no" which started this debate.

not all of them are good, but virtually all of them haven't been mentioned by anyone else (i could have added a bunch of awful thai films. but i'm not that cruel),

but you are going to need over 100 films to do a top 100.

so initially it has to be quantity over quality, the judges can sort out the quality later.

That's why I think we should keep the list broad. I don't mean counting Chungking Express or anything, but Horror/Exploitation/Camp is a good standard. They would still be things of interest to horror fans and this site is meant to enlighten horror fans and show them things they like.

The Flayed One 02-23-2009 09:54 AM

With the Other HDC Top 100, I didn't make any stipulations as to what was sent in, other than it not be a part of the original Top 100. There were several movies there that were not even remotely close to being a horror movie, but I let the judges define what was and was not acceptable. I suggest we do the same here instead of debating it in the thread.

If we must, however, I propose a question in the Oldboy/Ichi debate. Do you consider Full Metal Yakuza viable for the list? I find it to be a middle ground between the two.

I've seen no mention of Snake of June.

People hate it that much?

Papillon Noir 02-23-2009 10:05 AM

Okay, here's my list (I tried to do them in order of preference as much as possible):

Perfect Blue
Ninja Scroll
Vampire Hunter D
L.I.L.Y. Cat
Audition
Battle Royale
Demon City Shinjuku
Wicked City
Oldboy (I'm with Chrono here!)
Paprika
Imprint
Legend of the Overfiend
Death Note
Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust
Tetsuo: Iron Man
Death Note II: The Last Name

I think if you're looking to expand the list, I don't think you should try to include exploitation but to expand to horror series. Since anime series are such a staple in Japan, a lot of exceptional horror are in these series and I think they should definitely be considered.

My anime series list:

Gantz
When They Cry
Elfen Lied
Berserk
Death Note
Boogiepop Phantom

Title of compilation is changed, as per debate and discussion in the thread. Have added Angra's, Doc's, Flayed's & Papillon's recs to the compilation, alongwith my own list.

Also, I have a small announcement to make. But that will be later, when I get in touch with someone.
