Alright Sambo, i took a gander today and had some dissagreements and some (more it appears) agreements with your top 100.....not saying you're wrong or anything.....just wanted to see everyones opinion....
First of all let me start with movies that ARE on there that i completely agree with....
Taxi Driver
Casablanca
12 Angry Men
Seven
Goodfellas (mad props)
Psycho
Monty Pythons Holy Grail (left out of EVERYONES top 100, nice to see it here, surely one of the funniest movies ever)
Pink Floyd's the wall
2001
Clockwork Orange (meh, i would have had it higher, but its MY kind of movie really)
Donnie Darko
One Flew over the CooCoo's Nest
Exorcist
AKIRA (FUCKING MAD PROPS HERE! GREAT FUCKING ANIME!!)
Fight Club
Ghostbusters (nice....)
Resevior Dogs (but that far down? Come on its better than that)
Being John Malcovich (watched yesterday:D )
Stand By Me
American History X
The Birds
Pi (very nice)
Terminator
Planet of the apes (dont really like, but its a classic)
NOW
The movies i would NOT include....JMHO mind you....
Momento (while i like it alot, not in my top 100)
Usual Suspects (and i LOVE kevin spacy)
Dogman (meh)
Pulp Fiction( THATS RIGHT I SAID IT! IT HAD TO BE SAID! Its good and everything, great characters, but Resevoir Dogs is SO superior its not even funny)
Almost Famous ( a tough call, good fucking movie, but...)
Scarface (see pulp fiction.....most over rated gangster movie...good, but not that fucking good)
Gangs of New York (the historical Inaccuracies are worse than Amadeus:eek: )
This is Spinal Tap (a fucking CLASSIC, but not a fav...)
Dawn of the Dead (original or remake, not a huge zombie fan, and NOTLD owns it)
Dark City (GREAT fucking music, good movie, saw in the theaters, but the ending......)
Black Hawk Down (no thanks)
From Dusk Till Dawn (oh god, i cant STAND this movie....the effects, george cloony, the vampires, UGH)
Suicide Kings (also watched yesterday......good fucking movie, cheap buy, but not great, fucking GREAT ending tho)
Ruroni Kenshin (i watched a bit, and the movie.....the character is kinda clitched in anime, see trigun etc. for exampls, you need to watch BERSERK man......ruroni kenshin but evil and unstopable and with a 10 footish sword, trust me)
Evil Dead (flame on, the whole trilogy, along with Bruce Campbell's career in general, are overated)
Training Day (kinda a random entry isnt it?)
Kill Bill (vastly dissapointed)
Alright, now for some fucking great movies that SHOULD have been in there, In my opinion.....
Batman
Beetlejuice
FUCKING TRUE ROMANCE (and you had pulp fiction and suicide kings:confused: )
THE ROCK (the best action movie of all time)
The Evangeleon Movie (dont worry, no one will know what this is until the hollywood remake comes out in a year or so....itll suck too, then go back and watch the anime....and loose your mind like i did)
REQUEIM FOR A DREAM
The Shining
Full Metal Jacket
Edward Sissorhands
TITUS
Aliens
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)
TOMBSTONE
Legend
NATURAL BORN KILLERS (i thought FOR SURE youd have this one)
The nightmare before xmas (classic)
The last of the mohicans (omg GREAT MOVIE.....that last scene with the father...truely powerful)
Braveheart (yaya)
Immortal Beloved (GARY OLDMAN AS BEETHOVEN)
Amadues
Bram Stokers Dracula (GARY OLDMAN AS DRACULA.....BITCH!!)
Highway (1056 Dicks, Jack.....)
Freeway (sick, movie...fucking great)
FUCKING EQUILIBRIUM (i cant BELIEVE you forgot that)
AMERICAN PSYCHO
Velvet Goldmine
GATTICA
and last but not least THE TRANSFORMERS MOVIE (ORSON WELLS, LINARD NEMOY, ERIC IDLE AND JUDD NELSON of breakfast club fame)
Nice list tho....and you do have some fucking great movies on there....but no ones list is gonna be the same....

I've seen the whole television series including death and rebirth. My friend was a huge fan and bought the whole series on dvd. It's been awhile since I've seen them though. I liked them alot but was absolutely confused about some of it by the time it was over.
Now this hollywood remake, is it to be live action? I think that would suck. Maybe not, but the live action Gundam sure did.

Sam has a pretty good list going. Although we all have our own opinions. I agree with Arioch that Tombstone, Bram Stokers Dracula, Requiem for a Dream, Full Metal Jacket and a lot more shouldve been included. But i do think that Dawn of the Dead, Pulp Fiction, Evil Dead, and Scarface SHOULD stay on the list. Although Goodfellas OWNS THE FUCK outta Scarface, Scarface is still a good movie.....

I haven't seen Fargo, Bram Stokers Dracula, Requiem for a Dream or Full Metal Jacket.
And, as much as I love Scorsese (best director ever, can't make a bad movie, etc.), I was dissapointed with Casino. Not as dissapointed as I was with Rashomon, but dissapointed nonetheless

Requeim for a Dream: WATCH IT NOW FUCKER. Its exactly your type of movie.
Sam The Egg
09-14-2004, 01:49 PM
Arioch's suggestions:
"Batman "
Aside from Jack Nicholson, it didn't really have much going for it
"Beetlejuice"
Weird, funny, unique, but just not good enough
"FUCKING TRUE ROMANCE"
Tarantino directing would've done wonders for it
"THE ROCK"
Haven't seen it
"The Evangeleon Movie"
Haven't seen it
"REQUEIM FOR A DREAM"
Haven't seen it
"The Shining"
was in heavy consideration
"Full Metal Jacket"
Haven't seen it
"Edward Sissorhands"
Too many of the performances annoyed me
"TITUS"
Haven't seen it
"Aliens"
It's rare that I'll have both the original and a sequel on the list. IIRC, I've only got one movie/sequel pairing on the list, and that's Raiders of the Lost Ark and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. And Aliens is no Last Crusade.
"The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)"
One word: Franklin
"TOMBSTONE"
Kilmer's best performance, one of the few Kurt Russel movies I like, but there's just something that kept it off the list
"Legend"
Haven't seen enough of it
"NATURAL BORN KILLERS"
Uh, no
"The nightmare before xmas"
The Wall aside, a musical will never make the list
"The last of the mohicans"
Haven't seen it
"Braveheart"
I need to watch it again
"Immortal Beloved"
Never heard of it
"Amadues"
If I'd seen it for the first time a little while before making the list, it might have made it. But I saw it a bunch when I was a kid and, being a kid, never liked it. So now I've got the memories of disliking it so etched into my head that I can't bring myself to sit and watch it
"Bram Stokers Dracula"
Haven't seen it...bitch!
"Highway"
The Jake Gyllenhaal/Jared Leto movie? Very good, but just not good enough
"Freeway"
It's twisted, perverted, tasteless, and has Kiefer Sutherland in it, so it was in consideration
"FUCKING EQUILIBRIUM"
I didn't forget it. I can't ingore the Switched Gun plot hole
"AMERICAN PSYCHO"
I hate Hewey Lewis and the News
"Velvet Goldmine"
"GATTICA"
Never seen it
"THE TRANSFORMERS MOVIE"
Nice cast, inappropriate placement of Weird Al music, Galvatron, but the humans annoyed the shit out of me, and the Matrix screamed Deus Ex Machina
As for Ruroni Kenshin, he's only Trigun-ish in the show, and this is the movie (Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal director's cut)
But always keep in mind; I have fucking Versus on my list, what do I know?
Mr. Nash
09-14-2004, 03:40 PM
Tombstone, IMO is a GREAT movie. One of my favorites. Top 10 for me. I loved Doc Holliday. "I'm your huckleberry". I wish I had a few pictures of him, if I did I would make my avatar Doc. Or maybe Johny Ringo...
Bettlejuice is also one of my favorites.

Sam, How is it that you have never seen Full Metal Jacket??? This and Platoon would be tied up on my list. Ermey gives the performance of a lifetime although I dont think that it was really acting being that he is a Marine Corp. drill sarg.
Also how come I dont see Jaws on the list?? Quints recount of the USS Indianapolis is a haunting story and I have to be honest, I have always felt that Jaws was the scariest movie of all time.
Lot of others on the list I agree with, although not in the order, and some I dont.
Interesting list though was glad to see Deliverance, love that fucking movie.
Have you seen HERO? Friend got an import copy and it is one of the best foreign films I have ever seen.
Sam The Egg
09-14-2004, 06:42 PM
I had a copy of FMJ back in the day (VHS), but part of it was cut off at the beginning so I always meant to get a copy, but the fact that I had it already always kept me from buying/renting it. Now that I've got Netflix, I'll see it.
I've seen Jaws, I love the movie, and it may make the list yet. I gave it, IIRC, ****3/4, but I might see it sometime again and decide it's good enough to get another 1/4*, which would all but guarantee it makes the list (there are one or two ***** movies not on the top 100, so it's not 100%)
I haven't seen Hero, but it's one of the three movies that will be out soon at the theater near me (One of three theaters, actually, but this one has better chairs, so it's the one we go to;) ), so I'll see it eventually

Bumped, because one of Arioch's original reccommendations came close to cracking the top 10, and could move up as high as number 8 in the near future. Requiem for a Dream is the first and only movie to bring me to tears. That's right, TEARS! Not that little "single tear or two" type thing, either. That movie was fucking HARSH at the end.
So, it's at number 11 at the very least.
EDIT: Screw it, it's number 8. Which means, as much as it pains me to do it, Se7en is no longer in the top 10
Full Metal Jacket, however, was a great dissapointment

Scarface is a much more powerful movie than Monty Python, but it's behind it. Obviously Sam and I have different opinions but I think Raging Bull while maybe not as powerful is still the better movie.

I know we've got different opinions but I agree with most of the list, I would have certain things in different order and there a few I haven't seen yet but for the most part I'd say about 90% I agree with ecspecially the top 5 although I'd drop one to sixth and throw in something else.

Raging Bull and Se7en got pushed down because Requiem for a Dream is better. And I love both movies to death. But Requiem is a little better. And I even had it at number 11 at first just so I could keep Se7en in my top 10, but I had to bump it to 8

I've never even seen Requiem for a Dream I thought you were talking about something else, I must've read your post wrong. I'll have to get that asap if it's suppose to be better than Raging Bull.

at one time it was in the 20's, but last year almost the whole list got reordered (only the top 6 remained the same), so some dropped considerably, some jumped up

that's understandable cause even though you're going on what the best movie is and not your favorites I would assume that it's sometimes influenced by your mood.
my list always changes around pretty often except for the top 5.

Yeah, if it were favorites (which I interprit as something I enjoy and like to watch a lot) then neither Requiem nor Cuckoo's Nest would be on the list. I don't even like watching Taxi Driver a lot.

I do pretty much the same, if I did a list based on favorites then Dumb and Dumber would be over Goodfellas and God knows it's not a better movie.

favorites always change around, although I think Million DB will be at the top for awhile it could change next week for all I know. Jerry Maguire was at the top of my list ever since I saw it about five years ago then two weeks ago I saw MDB, might be tomorrow might be another five years before I see something that makes it's way to the top of the list, then again it might not ever happen.

I knew I'd run into somebody who would have a problem with Animal House, I was trying to deside between it and Caddyshack but I think it had more of a plot and story so I went with Animal House to tell you the truth the only reason I was considering either of them is because of the comedy, I think they're two of the best comedies ever. I could've easily trashed the both of 'em and went with Out of Africa, Krammer vs Krammer, Rain Man, ect. but I just wanted to get a good bit of comedies in there.
