A) Has a good plot (With the Excption of "The Ring")
B) Wasnt made in the last 5 years
It took me a long time to convince them that Pirates of the Carribean was in no way a horror movie.
And also......they think the following movvies are "Horror"
The Mummy Remake
Van Helsing
Underworld
Edward Scissorhands

Im famous as the 'movie girl' all over school and so people are always asking me what I've watched. Here's how those conversations go:
Person:Hey, what movies did you watch last night?
Me: Cannibal Holocaust, King of the Ants, and Dawn of the Dead.
Person: Well the first two sound gay, but the last one r0xorz!
Me: The original Dawn.

I get frustrated too when I'm talking to someone younger who finds out I love horror movies. Then they get excited, say something like, "No way! Me too. Texax Chainsaw rocks!" (Or whatever other popular mainstream movie is going around at the time..)
Then you bring up originals, or even non-mainstream and you get blank stares.. and then they usually have the audacity to roll their eyes, says, "oooooooookay" and act like I'm the fucking retard.

texas chainsaw massacre is one of the best horror moviez ever! there's no doubt! and such films as "resident evil" is just a big shit, from todays teenages dream world. I agree, if you will ask the persons who r 16-22 years old, have they watched "evil dead" "tmc" or something similar... u will get the answer: "no, i dont know what r u talking about". todays teenages are dived into the fantasy world, and the bigest heroes for them are: heroes from resident evil, eminem or something similar. i can put big shit on such stars... tofdays teenages haven't seen the good old horror moviez, they have seen only todays moviez. my friends are such "modern' too. once when I talked about freaks (1932) or tmc (1974), my friend said: "I wouldn't watch the movie, it was made in the past, if it is old. I watch only modern movies."

Maybe it had nothing to do with your hair. Perhaps they called you Shaggy because you would eat that huge sandwich in one bite and you always hung around with the same three geeks and drive around in your van with your dog...huh...ever think of that.

Hold it - if you're still at school, should you really be watching gory horror movies in the first place?
I blame the parents.
Each new generation is bound to attach itself to "their" films, and just as likely to dismiss older "classics" as feeble and outdated by comparison (just as you might follow Avril Lavigne and baulk at the thought of Jon Bon Jovi... ho ho ho!).
It's difficult to convince people that one horror movie is better than another; quite often it comes down to current trends rather than any real understanding of what the person is actually watching... in other words, kids are easily led onto bandwagons and rave about the latest high concepts and horror icons because quite simply it is the fashionable thing to do. Marketing men know teenagers are highly impressionable, and shape their films accordingly.
Claiming the original TCM and Dawn of the Dead are inferior to the remakes or even game tie-ins like Resident Evil is of course insane, but only when you first catch a truly scary classic alone in the dark with no distractions from peers do you realise certain movies have the power to get under your skin and unsettle and exhilarate you in a way no flashy, big-name blockbuster can.
Some never progress from formulaic, predictable scares though - and always need the comfort of redemption, closure, self-satisfaction and justice by the end of their movies.

I just think, IMO, that kids now a days don't have a clue what kind of horror flick is good. Younger kids would have to have some kick ass parents in order to know what your talking about. I am only 17 years of age but I am going to school for film and want to be a director that is why I know what I am talking about. You just need to hang with the right crowd who knows what they are talking about.

You are seriously on the right track. Now, all you gotta do is go back a little farther, maybe see "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein," "The Creature from the Black Lagoon," the original "13 Ghosts" and the original "House on Haunted Hill," and while you're at it, don't stop there; go back to the 1930's (and farther if possible) and see all the older stuff you can. Put yourself in the mindframe of the audiences who saw those films when they were new, and imagine how they reacted to them. The 1931 "Frankenstein" scared the gee-whillikers out of people when it came out. All that old stuff is still scary.
With a little bit of study, pretty soon you'll be so far ahead of your buddies, it won't even be funny!

Very well said! The first time that I watched Texas Chainsaw Massacre was around 2 or 3 years ago, when the original was first release on dvd... and boy did it get under my skin.
I watched it as you described, alone, in the dark with no distractions... and I am not ashamed to say that by the end of it, I was very scared and crying... and that was 25 years after it was originally released.

They don't come along very often these days... last night I caught some of I Don't Want to be Born (1975/Peter Sasdy) just before bed and nearly shat - a baby that turns into a horrible man in creepy flashes!
The dubbed, screechy screams in those British 70's horrors still send chills right up my spine.

Oh, and, uh...oh yeah. I also liked "Resident Evil." I really did! I thought it was all right! It was better than I thought it was going to be, anyway.
But nothing quite beats a good old Universal horror movie.
I would like to take the whole reality of "Van Helsing" and put it into one of those square egg machines from the 70's, you know, those cube-squeezing machines that make hard boiled eggs square? And then I would crush it, crush, CRUSH it! And squeeze it down into this little cube which I would then step on.
You don't remember the Square Egg machines, do you?
