Just curious, do you folks rent or purchase most of the horror movies you watch? How do you decide what is worth buying and what is strictly rental only.

I've come to realize that I buy way more than I rent. Most of the time I don't buy something unless I know I'll like it, (either by way of reviews or having seen it already) but sometimes I'll buy something "blind".

Oh yeah, and I love video rental stores that sell used dvds. I just bought May on dvd for $5.99!!! :D

I haven't rented a movie in almost 10 years...I can buy them for just about the same amount that it costs to rent them, and I don't have to return them...So, I will never rent a movie again

I don't buy much...unless it's really cheap, or something that I'm sure I'll absolutely love and watch multiple times.
Usually I rent, order off Pay per view(and record), and I used to record almost every horror movie I saw on, when I had the movie channels.

And speaking of May...I bought it when it first came out. I had never seen it but I was pretty sure I would like it...so I got it. And I do love it. :D I paid $20 for mine though. :o :p

It all depends. If I see a New Release that looks like it could be hit or miss, I'll rent it first. (I just rented "Detour' last night. It was okay, but I'm sure glad I didn't buy it.) If I see something that I've never seen for the same price it would cost to rent, I'll buy it. If I saw it in the theatre and liked it, and therefore know that I want to own it some day, I'll buy it the next time I want to see it as opposed to renting it.

Mostly buy, but sometimes rent.

I Buy.. I am a serious horror collector.. Meaning, I want to own every horror movie ever made.. I have never downloaded a movie, the reason is because I like to own the case , have the booklet, etc... I dont care if a horror movie sucks or not "If I have the money at the time, I will buy it"

I also rent sometimes, I have a small collection of recorded videos.. I occasionally tape trade so I have gotten a good collection of uncut movies ... I have this thing for 70`s Italian horror so therefore if I find out it is Italian I instantly WANT it.. But when it comes down to deciding and if I only have 40 bucks I usually pick out the movie that I think I will like..

the other day I was at suncoast and I only had 60 bucks.. I wanted about 6 movies.. They had a sale so that meant I could get atleast four of them. I am really into Italian horror and Zombie films so I chose 4 of that type of film.. okay I will shut up now LOL

oh and YES cable is so damn better, my g/f has cable .. I so dont miss dial-up :D

I buy if I've seen it before and loved it, or if Ive seen it before and its on sale. I'll also buy something 'blind' if its a classic. Like I bought Dawn of the Dead before ever seeing it.

I rent a LOT more than I buy though.

Thanks for the replies everyone. It seems everyone has a slightly different take on how they acquire their horror.

If I were able I would definately download movies to try them out. I usually do not rent a movie if I know of one that I would rather buy. I can't really afford to buy everything I want, so there is always something on the shelf I want. So, sometimes I feel like if I rent this movie here then I'm wasting money I could put toward a different one that I know I want to purchase.

The only rental store left in my area is Blockbuster, and there selection sucks...I have some friends, (believe it or not) and we trade some of the campy movies back and forth so we don't have to all buy them.

I know how you feel, I recently moved from a town that didnt have many movie stores but they didnt have a good selection eighter. I usually just order my movie online, they are cheaper and plus I dont have to leave my house to go shopping for them. But suncoast sometimes has sales but I have to drive about 40 minutes to get to it..
