Man Allegedly Stabs Ex-Wife, Sets Woman's Hair On Fire
Police Investigate Attempted Murder
BOSTON -- An Everett, Mass., man was accused Friday of using a knife and a shard of glass to carry out a vicious attack on his ex-wife.
The couple had been separated about 7 months. Police said that the two began arguing over her seeing another man.
"Apparently, this defendant was drinking. Her cell phone rang at that time and he began hitting her, pulling her hair out of her head and beating her for about 20 minutes," assistant District Attorney Beth Stevens said.
Neighbors said that there was a lot of commotion on the street.
"Police started running. There were numerous officers, and then all of a sudden, they took him out in cuffs," neighbor Teresa Hanson said.
Stevens said that during the attack Moura stabbed Fanti with a kitchen knife. He also tossed some of her hair onto the barbeque.
Arriving police found a bloody victim.
"They also smelled a strong odor of burning hair. The victim was observed to be covered in blood. She had a large stab wound to her head and a stab would to her hands. She appeared to be missing some hair. The yard was covered in blood, and there was hair burned in the barbeque grill," Stevens said.
Fanti was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, but her condition was not known.
Moura was held without bail and is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday for a dangerousness hearing.
