Vodstock seemed to have this problem with one of his movies so i was wondering how common it was....

My dvd version of The Thing wont play at all in my dvd player, or my ps2, its not scratched and nothing is on the disc, and it USED to play but now doesnt....

Anyone else have this problem with some of their movies?

It's called DVD rot. Not much you can do about it except bitch at the manufacturer, and they're just going to ignore you.

It all depends on the quality of the materials used to make the DVD. If they used cheap materials, there's a good chance that it will break down faster.

The funny thing is, I still have VHS tapes from the late 80's that work great.

DVD is SO much better...

Im having a hard enough time with getting her to watch a movie WIDESCREEN.....since all movies are really filmed in 4:3 TV ratio...

Ha...

DVD is definitely better, don't get me wrong. But this part of it sucks.

Widescreen is good... as long as you have a TV that is widescreen. If you have just a standard TV, widescreen is crap.

Edit: Had to look it up to be sure. 16:9 (aka 4:3) is standard format. Widescreen is 2.35:1.

I MUST have a widescreen TV....High Def, too....ive wanted one for so long....someday.....

Ya the whole scratching element of DVD's is pretty lame...

better than rewinding the tape, hearing a snap, then the rewind goes on forever because the tape broke... then you have to disassemble it, try not to lose any of the parts, then tape it, and try getting it back together.... God i hate vhs..

what i was trying to watch was a cd with a divx version of AOD and there was an error...so no ash for me :(

I do like Snatch, though. I love how brad pitt talks in that movie... probably one of his best performances.

"Godamnit... i fucking HATE Pikeys...."

Agreed 100%

I still have most of my movies on VHS and they work just fine. My DVDs work fine too, but they're expensive and I don't really watch the extra stuff too often, so it really isn't worth it for me to switch my whole collection to DVD. What's the point? In 5 years, something better will come along anyways...

Someone told me, dont know how true this is, that DVDs have a shelf life, and it also depends on how you stack them. Bunch of !@@#$%$^&*(*^&%T% if you ask me. If that is true I am going to be out several hundred dollars.b

Stacking has nothing to do with it. They do have a shelf life, however. Nobody really knows the exact shelf life, but it's somewhere in the range of 8-12 years. That also depends on the quality of the materials used to manufacture the DVD.

...And what's with all of this electricity and indoor plumbing shit?...What you can't light a candle?...You think your arm's gonna fall off if you go outside, pump some water from the well, and heat it on a fire to fill your washtub?...lol:D

I still don't understand why anybody would watch a movie in pan-n-scam. Old movies that were originally in the 1.33:1 ratio is one thing, but I prefer seeing what's going on on the far left and right of my movies, thank you very much.
