Institute 'Horrified' By Mutilated Cadavers

A number of mutilated cadavers, used by chiropractic students at the Durban Institute of Technology, have been found at the Institute's anatomy laboratory.
East Coast Radio reported on Thursday the mutilations had been discovered by an anatomy technician during a routine inspection last week.
"We are absolutely horrified that a breach of this sort could have occurred," said Kiru Naidoo, spokesperson for the DIT.
The bodies were being used by chiropractic students as part of their studies.
'We are absolutely horrified'
It is not clear when the crime took place.
"At the present time we're treating it as a student prank," Naidoo said.
Police have been brought in to investigate the matter, as well as the government's anatomy inspector.
Meanwhile access to parts of the chiropractic department's "Anatomy Lab" has been tightened. Naidoo has said help was at hand for students.
"There's likely to be students who may be traumatised at the fact of this incident having occurred."
He added, "We are putting in the necessary counselling measures for anyone who has been adversely affected."
