Open up the back and see if the tape looks ruined or dusty. If it's dusty try to blow it off. If it's twisted or crumpled, it's a goner. VHS tapes don't have an extremely long life span (especially rentals) so there's a chance it's just old, too.

I would bring it back to the store, tell them it doesn't work and get a free rental out of it at least.

I have a DVD player but the only place that HAS Dead Alive has it only in VHS. And plus all the good movies in this town are on VHS.

How about - set it on fire and throw the flaming, stinking, melting mess right back into the store?

Do at least as much damage as they charged - my policy.

I have had problems with DVD rentals also! I have a cleaner/conditioner kit for the DVDs I own, but I don't want to use it to clean rentals. Does anybody know of a way to fast easily clean these DVDs?

unless thereis advice against it, i would think windex and a paper towel would do just fine.

If your dvds are scratched or dirty to the point they're fucking up, just get 'em resurfaced - works fine every time, the info's all on the other side anyway...
