View Full Version : Texas Chainsaw Massacre Prequel!?

Wow I couldn't be anymore excited after reading a short article on the web tonight about Michael Bay doing a prequel to the newest remake of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre"! I loved this remake to death. It has to be my number one favorite horror film of all time. I thought nothing could beat the Halloween series, but I think this one made the Halloween movies look boring in comparison. The acting by Jessica Biel was superb and I would love to see her come back and do another horror film. Anyone else have any other news on this prequel? When will it most likely be released into theatres? 2006?

Yeah well it isn't my fault I was born in '87....and the original was "ok", but I'm sure it was VERY scary back in the day when it first came out.

Ok, That one remake of the TCM cannot beat the Halloween series. I did think that Jessica acted good. Except for the one part when the girl commited suicide in the car. Her scream is so fucking fake its ridiculous. If they make a prequel, I don't really see how anyone will live at the end. If someone does, then how could they not have any idea about the Hewitt house later? To me, one movie is enough. The original I did not like that much, but many fans do. The sequel, I did not like at all, but the fans do. I didn't see 3 or 4, but for some reason the trailers make me wanna see them. TCM: The Next Gerneration isn't that old so, its not like the series is dead. They could make a part 5. I think they should do the fans a favor an not make a prequel. Its still based on a true story. I think it would be cool if they made a documentary on it, not a movie.

lol, it would be cool, I'd go see it. Its just going to be confusing with 2 TCMs. They'll probably remake a sequel if the prequel does good. I'll go see that too.

The remake was good and all but hopefully they could do me a favor with this prequel, add something new and original to the story. Each sequel basically is a double dip of the original, excluding the second but that's because Hooper directed it. Now this shouldn't be to hard since a prequel has never been done before, but I never trust a Michael Bay production.....need I say Pearl Harbor?
PS- Jessica Biel was a terrible actor in the TCM remake, her other assests more than made up for it however ;) .

well, i just saw the chainsaw massacre and scarry was for about 30'. after that it was "WTF???!!!" whoever has saw the original will understand me, like at atleast 10 scenes they could have taken out leatherface, and there were too many film mistakes, so obvious you didnt need to see the movie twice, i still prefer the original version....

i like both, however i like the original more just because of its originality. its mostly just creepy rather than scary, and i feel like the remake didnt rely much on creepiness but instead just was out to make the audience jump.
id like to see a prequel, because if youve seen the remake the group picks up a girl in the beginning that kills herself. I think that girl would be a perfect character for the prequel, she could be the lone survivor, and a perfect link from the prequel to the remake.
and for the love of god...TCM is not based on a true story!!!!!!
rent/buy/watch the original and listen to the commentary. jesus h. fucking christ. its based on ed gein, who only killed one person.

I'm a huge TCM fan.. have been for years. My father rented that movie for my 8th birthday party and it scared the piss out of me and I swore I'd never watch it again... until my cousin insisted we watch it when I was in high school. It still scared the piss out of me, but now it's definately a family movie... one the whole family congregates around.
Maybe this is why I wasn't exactly thrilled about the remake. It wasn't necessarily BAD, but its in no way better or scarier or smarter than the original. There is no comparison.

If you're referring to me, it's got to do with what others had to say about the remake. The thread starter said it was her favorite movie (at least I think it was the thread starter who said that) and I was just throwing my two cents in. As far as the prequal goes, if it's done in the fashion of the original, then I'll like it. If it's supposed to be a prequal to the remake (and done in the fashion of the remake) then I don't see how the two could be a part of the original.

It'd be one hell of a short documentary, considering almost all of it isnt really true. Just enough to get off without false advertising. Damn Hollywood...

It IS based on a true story, though. VERY loosely based, however, on Ed Gein and there are plenty of documentaries about him. I'm not sure if Gein ever weilded a chainsaw at his victims, but he did dress in their skins and this is about the only similarity the two share.

lol, I knew that most of the shit was made up, I've never been able to find anything on the true story, I just figured some guy killed a bunch of people with a chainsaw, an that was it. Since it would have to be, to be called The Texas(it happened in Texas) Chainsaw(involved a chainsaw) Massacre(lot of people died) I don't really think they should call it a true story. I read some stuff like Jessicas character really did live an told her story an the remake was what really happened, but I dunno

I don't get it too. But they're doin it. Even Ringu's remake The Ring will have a prequel.. after the sequel, though.
TCM (2003) was the scariest movie I've ever seen. I kept jumping and screaming (sad, I know). Even after watching it 4 times I kept jumping and screaming (so sad, I know). The original was scary but I LOVED the remake. The direction was really great and the music by Steve Jablonski was awesome. I went and bought the soundtrack (..I know). But hey, at least I got the soundtrack autographed by Steve! I can't wait for the prequel.
And as for TCM (2003) being better than the Halloween series, how? There's just no way. Although, anything beats Halloween 3. Michael Myers is too f_cking awesome. I was upset that they didn't do a Michael vs. Jason. But then after seeing Freddy vs. Jason, I was glad to see that he wasn't a part of it. Because the way that the movie turned out, it would've been bad for the series. I would LOVE to see Michael vs. Leatherface. That would be a great horror movie. And the poster could be like half of Michael's mask and half of what Leatherface uses and behind that would be some messed up boy. And if they did go with Michael vs. Leatherface, I hope this movie would kill the pattern that it was made with FVJ and AVP.
But yeah, to sum it all up, the remake was awesome but doesn't beat the Halloween series.
Oh, another thing... With the amount of sequels that the Freddy, Jason and Michael franchises have made, I wonder if there Hollywood could do it again. Maybe The Texas Chainsaw Massacre could be the one to do it? But it would have to be some kind of killer dude not movies like the Scream series where it's like a whodunit kind of deal. Know what I mean?

Then first, don't act like there isn't any truth behind the story whatsoever because, even though it's a very small amount, it IS truth.
Second, don't always assume the whole post is for you. It was in response to your unintellegible comment; however, that information was for the guy who said he wanted to see documentation on the true story.
And third, don't be such an asshole. Sarcasm'll only take you so far.

I don't fucking understand alll these losers who say the original is a classic and shit like that, the original is the biggest piece of crap i have ever seen, the movie is cheap and riddled with mistakes, therefore the remake was one of the greatest movies i have ever seen and the prequel is going to be another great movie, by the way i also read an article about this movie and it said Gunnar Hansen may possibly have a cameo as a drill sargeant who gets buthchered by Leatherface.

Some people embrace things like low budget, good directing and unknown actors.
The remake was nothing but Hollywood smokescreen. "Show them some well-known actors, lots of blood and gore, high special FX and maybe they won't notice that we completely fucked the script up." Compared to the original, it was pitiful. It was your basic teen horror movie.
Also, it's called a cult classic because it has a very very VERY large cult following.

I'm very curious but I'm also very sketical. The first TCM was great because of Edwin, Gunnar and Jim. And the Second was great because of Mosely and Jim again. "You've done it again! You coonshit, you fudgepackers you be the death of me yet!"
But anyway, I such a Huge fan of the TCM series, I'll probably buy it as soon as it goes to DVD. Even if it sucks.:)

now don't get me wrong i respect both the original and the remake for their own induvidual values.
in the original i like the way that the film was shot, almost like it was a documentary, and i like the fact that all the horror in itself wasn't completly based on Leatherface, but instead on their actions, what i didn't like however was the fact that with a name like the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" i basically was left demanding for more action with the chainsaw, and i also didn't like the fact that he wore woman dresses, now im not one of those moronic so called TCM fans that became one after the remake.
now i like the remake, because first of all even though the movie takes place in the same time period as the original, it way more different story, i like it because the movie is faster, it's more violent, it keeps on hitting then running you with gruesome scenes, the action is non-stop, and the killer isn't a retarded fuck who has no idea what he is doing, he is a massive phychopath who knows exactly what he's doing and why he is doing it, he is driven by rage and frustration, but once again the things i didn't like about the film are things like leatherface being given a name (Thomas Hewitt) i didn't like fucking Sherrif Hoyt given more air time then Leatherface and i especially did not like the fact that Leatherface removes his mask, we didn't need to see that, it was supposed to be an enigma, im sorry that i wasted your time with this reply, but i think this needed to be said.

The sequel will end with the one girl (suicidal from the remake) getting away. Everyone else in the movie will die. That will explain why no one knows about the Hewitt residence (because she kills herself before she tells anyone.).
I think this movie is a bad idea, but I'll go see it anyways.

first thing the halloween series sucked execpt the last 2. and second please a prequel that doesnt make any sence. it doesnt. but i will most likely go see it cause i see everything. i might wait it it comes out on rental so its cheaper and i wont lose as much money. now a sequel would be good. the remake wasnt the best horror movie caue lets face it it wasnt a horror movie. now a good movie yes. one of the best remakes yes. but not one of the best horror movies. i mean lets face it there are no real horror movies out these days. yes there are a couple of them but not alot of them. very few. now i would go see it the day it came out if it was a sequel but not a prequel. doeant make any sence

thats exactly it !
not knowing the motives behind the actions is far more effective than finding out so and so was abused as a kid, or they have a blood sugar imbalance ..
i like the mystery .. the randonmess..
i want my monsters to be monsters, not misunderstood victims.
at least not in a horror film.

more like remaking it, stomping on it, shitting on it, then flushing, trying to recover the crap, then digging it back up and trying to make it work after it had been killed
I know this has been argued about a bit in this thread already but still people are getting it wrong. TCM is NOT based in a true story. Someone got it right saying it was loosely based on Ed gein, which is correct. Just like how the "buffalo bill" character in silence of the lambs, and Norman Bates in pyscho are loosely based on ed gein. Even then its not so much based as in getting ideas from Gein and the things he did. Such as wearing women's clothing and having a suit made from the skin of dead people.
The look of the inside of leatherfaces' house was taken from the inside of Gein's house as well. with bones and carcasses lying around. some of which turned in to functional items.
In short Ed gein played inspiration to TCM (and other films) but none are truly about him, nor is it a TRUE story. The whole part of it being a true story is just part of the story to make it seem more scary. If you watch the dvd commentary with tobe hooper he explains that. He and Gunnar also talk about how people always ask them about the true story and they continue to say "we made up the story"

Well, I dunno what to think. I still havnt seen the remake, but the orginal was awesome. A bit slow, but still awesome. I think they need more of Grandpa if they do anything, Grandpa was the best part of the whole movie
