Horror is considering creating a "Political Debating Forum" for us here, as he has noticed that some of us are apparently into that sort of thing, and he reminded us that threads of a political nature are going to become more and more frequent, as the election draws nearer...I would like to point out that MOST forums (that do not have anything to do with politics, ie: Other Horror Forums, etcetera) will not even ALLOW Political Discussion of ANY kind...See how tolerant we are here?:D ...lol...
Anyway, he posed the question and the majority of us have answered in the affirmitive...So...It appears that it WILL happen...Not sure when:)
There will also be disclaimers for anyone posting in or viewing the new forum...Something along the lines of "Flaming cannot be avoided in heated debate, enter at your own risk...and...*Hold on*...
Here are Horror's OWN words..."We welcome the views of people from any political party or belief as long as they aren't trying to promote violence, extreme hatred, racism, etc.".
..So, however he wants to put it...That part will be up to him...I'm just letting you know that we should at least TRY to keep it as civil and intelligent as we can...and also WARNING you that, the civility probably won't last very long as the debating, and the debaters, get hot...This noted, if you are offended at any time by anything that you may view in the new Political Forum, you have already been cautioned about participating, and have made your own decision to do so...So, instead of complaining about it, just get in there and present your OWN opinion to counter the opposition, and express yourself:)
I guess now we just wait and see...this could get interesting:cool:
*Can picture Bwind, Stingy Jack, Vodstock, Egekrusher, and Arioch, putting on their debating gloves and helmets, already*...lol

LoL ... I was already in battle-gear by the time I read your final line! This would be great! But ... is the forum going to limited to Political debates? How about a debate forum in general? That way we can argue about all sorts of shit ... not just politics. I also like to argue about many branches of philosophy (metaphysics and theology most of all), and I have been known to get into it about aestheticism as well.
I'm afraid that when this happens I won't be able to be found at the other forums quite so frequently. ;)

Stingy Jack...I KNEW that you would be pleased (translated here as "exstatic"...lol)...As for your question...I am quite certain that our "Political Debating Forum" will inevitably become an all-out "Debating And Serious Discussion" forum for pretty much ANY topic...There are many philosophers here who may want to discuss Existentialism, Transcendentalism, etcetera as well...I can see Religious Discussion entering the fray, also...It's really just a way to keep some of the more pertinent topics out of the General Forum, where people often just want to hang out and have fun, rather than think or fight:D ...and to keep all related topics of that nature in one place, so that they will be more easily accessible if you happen to be in an argumentative mood, or just want to blow off some steam...We all get there sometime...I think it's going to be fun:)

Yeah, me neither. I know I get aggressive, and go into "Super-Long-Post Mode" in those threads, but really my views on politics are pretty simple when stripped down of the details: People should be allowed to do whatever the hell they want as long as they don't hurt or take advantage of other people. Of course, I have to resort to utilitarianism on occasion, when stuck with choosing between two or more evils (such as the abortion issue). My main problem is with people who hold a certain set of views, and insist on making it law that these views be accepted by the country as a whole. ** cough ** Conservatives **cough cough**. For example: Censorship (keeping what they think is bad out of the minds of everyone else), Gay Marriage (keeping two people who sincerely love each other from forming a bond that is recognized by the state ... because they don't want everyone else to think it is acceptable), Prayer, or other forms of religious practice, being employed by the public school systems (because think that everyone else's children need to be exposed to [i]their beliefs in order to be good people.) BUT, I do hold some traditionally conservative views as well. I'm for capital punishment and welfare reform, to list just a couple.

Good. This means I can keep my respect in the general forum, and still be an asshole in debates. :)

Gay Marriage (keeping two people who sincerely love each other from forming a bond that is recognized by the state ... because [i]they don't want everyone else to think it is acceptable) [/B]
I think this would make an excellent debate topic! I'm 100% opposed to gay 'marriage' and 100% non-opposed to gay civil union with the same benefits as a married couple.
How can this be you might ask?
Well, being a Christian, marriage means something quite different to me than what it has come to mean to society from a legal standpoint. It is a sacrament. It is a vow between a man and a woman before God to love each other until death do them part.
I don't have any problem with people that want to be gay, whatever you do in your home is your own business, IMO. BUT two men and two women CAN NOT receive the sacrament of marriage because it is a religious pact between a man and a woman. By the government intervening and saying that it is okay, I feel they are crossing the line between seperation of church and state. It isn't there place to say.
"Well, then the homosexuals are being treated as second class citizens." You might say. Well, that's true, but not because they aren't allowed to be married. It's because the government gives special privelages to married couples. My solution would be to stop that. Either there should be no privelages for being married, or a gya couple in a civil union should receive the same benefits.
That's all. My problem is not with gays being together. It's with them trying to use the term 'marriage', which as I said is a sacred ritual to Christians.
P.S. This forum will kick ass!
P.S.S. I can't believe BloodRayne left me off her list of debaters. :(

I'll save the rest of it for the new forum, but one thing that makes me a little upset is the fact that Christians think that marriage is unique to their religion or that they created it. It is NOT. Marriage was around for thousands of years before the first stirrings of Christianity. Even the ancient Aztecs were practicing forms of marriage. Why should it offend you that two people of the same sex want to be married? It is not against your religion per se because your religion did not invent the idea of marriage.

There have been 'forms of marriage' forever, yes. But 'marriage' is a sacrament. That term comes from Christianity. I don't know what they called it before Christianity came along and gave it a title. (Taking a wife, perhaps?) It doesn't bother me in the slightest that gays want to be together. That's great. Good for them. But they can't be married, because Christianity doesn't allow it. (In fact, being gay is a sin in Christianity.)
It's the term and usage of the word 'marriage' that I have the problem with. 'Marriage' is a sacrament. The government really shouldn't use the term. (but they do, because our country was founded by Christians.) We all know how many people hate when other aspects of religion creep into society, right? Why should this be any different?
