No, this is not a quiz.
I just want to know how many people on here have been diagnosed, by a doctor or by yourself, with a mental disorder, and what that disorder is.

must admit myself, If I have too many expressos in the mornings and i have to go out, the high caffine intake makes me paranoid about things.... like I'm all on edge for a while, then after about an hour I'm back to normal.

Attention Deficit Disorder- fancy way of saying I have the attention span of a mosquito.
There are different levels of OCD. For me, it's counting stairs as I go up/down them. I have to make the flight of stairs in 6 steps, or multiples of 6. I tap my feet and hands on the ground/desk/chest/whatever convenient location there is. Also, if I touch something with just one of my fingers, I have to touch it an equal amount of times with the rest of them.

Being annoying is not a mental disorder, dear, no matter what people may tell you.
Narcolepsy sucks. I used to have it, but I found out I was anemic and just needed more iron in my blood.

No, I don't actually think it's a good idea to do a self-diagnosis. I just wanted to reply. In reality, there's probably nothing wrong with me at all.

A lot of mine is self diagnosis, but I spent the better part of a year reading medical journals and researching online before I was satisfied with them.
The depression/anxiety are doctor diagnosed.

and the worst thing is. in the process of touching the buttons, maybe my pinky finger will accidently touch the button so then i hafto do it with my pink.
then to make it worse, my pinky finger is harder to control so instead of touching 1 button itll touch 2 at the same time, so i hafto continue going around touching each 1, then i hafto start touching them in pairs...

Here's something I do without really thinking about it:
If I am watching a TV show, I find myself counting the syllables in the lines of dialogue. I will repeat a line that was just spoken in my mind, and count the syllables. It will bother me slightly if the syllable count does not end in with a multiple of ten before the character is through speaking and another one starts.

And again: "sometimes when I find some roadkill, if it is still fluffy, i will stuff it down the front of my shirt and rub my body all over it. or ... when i am eating a pizza, i will throw each slice at the wall to determine if it is edible or not. i will eat it if it sticks to the wall, but not if it falls off or slides down"
I rest my case.

Theres this weird quirk that I have, its a little hard to explain. Here goes.
Everything that has an angle, in my mind I try to split everything up into either L's or V's. Mostly L's. Like when Im watching a TV, if I am alone I'll make my fingers in the shape of an L and hold it up to the TV. I've done this since I can remember, and I almost never realize Im doing it.
Another one- Almost everything I say, I try to translate into Spanish. A lot of times I'll be typing a message on here and I wont know how to say something in Spanish so I have to look it up. I swear I've done that multiple times.

Hey, nothing wrong with polishing your Spanish. Personally, I don't think enough people speak more than one language. Especially in America.
Here's another one about me: I'm a hypochondriac. Seriously. My wife tells me this all the time, and the moment something feels slightly wrong with me, I will go all beserk and start looking up the symptoms to these deadly diseases on the internet to see if I might be dying. It's pretty nutty.

I have a funny habit of falling in love with bipolar women.
ShankS
07-23-2004, 06:32 AM
I'd never heard of bipolar, so I did some searching and omg I can relate to most stuff on this list..... I've highlighted in bold:
What Are the Symptoms of Bipolar Disorder?
Bipolar disorder causes dramatic mood swings—from overly "high" and/or irritable to sad and hopeless, and then back again, often with periods of normal mood in between. Severe changes in energy and behavior go along with these changes in mood. The periods of highs and lows are called episodes of mania and depression.
Signs and symptoms of mania (or a manic episode) include:
-Increased energy, activity, and restlessness
-Excessively "high," overly good, euphoric mood
-Irritability
-Racing thoughts and talking very fast, jumping from one idea to another
-Distractibility, can't concentrate well
-Little sleep needed
-Unrealistic beliefs in one's abilities and powers
-Poor judgment
-Spending sprees
-A lasting period of behavior that is different from usual
-Increased sexual drive
-Abuse of drugs, particularly cocaine, alcohol, and sleeping medications
-Provocative, intrusive, or aggressive behavior
-Denial that anything is wrong
A manic episode is diagnosed if elevated mood occurs with three or more of the other symptoms most of the day, nearly every day, for 1 week or longer. If the mood is irritable, four additional symptoms must be present.
Signs and symptoms of depression (or a depressive episode) include:
-Lasting sad, anxious, or empty mood
-Feelings of hopelessness or pessimism
-Feelings of guilt, worthlessness, or helplessness
-Loss of interest or pleasure in activities once enjoyed, including sex
-Decreased energy, a feeling of fatigue or of being "slowed down"
-Difficulty concentrating, remembering, making decisions
-Restlessness or irritability
-Sleeping too much, or can't sleep
-Change in appetite and/or unintended weight loss or gain[b/]
-Chronic pain or other persistent bodily symptoms that are not caused by physical illness or injury
-Thoughts of death or suicide, or suicide attempts
A depressive episode is diagnosed if five or more of these symptoms last most of the day, nearly every day, for a period of 2 weeks or longer.

That must be tough. In my late 20's I used to get anxiety attacks once in a while.Once I figured out what was going on they kind of subsided. But it is scary when it happens.

I have just recently been diagnosed with BiPolar Mixec. I haven't got my meds yet, though. Oh and by the way I'm new here. But for most of you that is pretty obvious.

Sounds liek Don Henly. That guy is a fucking prick. He thinks he doesnt owe his fans anything. A message to self-righteous "stars" all over the world:
Without us, you are nothing. Get over yourself, or some twisted freak may end up thinking you are to special tobe anyone elses and shoot your selfish ass.

I dont think I have any disorders I can just be weird lol.
I like to do things in my OWN order people changing how I do things freaks me out I start to panic and stuff.
I fidget a lot lol and fix things so they look symmetrical or pretty lol. I make out a days plan and have to stick with it, I panic if it needs to be changed even if its just the location of a night out is changed.
I have my own way of learning and doing things it might take longer but I have to do it my own way.
Oh and somethings I get letters and numbers mixed up write them backwards (after re-reading this then doing a spell check still took me a minute to realise that backwords was not what I was trying to say there lol) and stuff. The word and gets me quite often I can write it dna at times.
I have to do stuff in the right order and check everything before going out or moving on to the next job and will be going over everything I did in my head to be sure it is all completed. I have been known to return and go back over everything lol.
Ok thats a lot of weird stuff I think im just crazy thats only partly explained also lol.

No shit... If you are a sociopath, you are better at covering it up than your average serial killer. You have the nice guy act down to an artform.

very true ... most of them are corporate CEOs

yup. we need sociopaths in this world.
my brother is a sociopath, but he's definitely not a serial killer.
you should ask your brother if he's ever thought about it

serial killers are sociopaths with some sort of sexual deviance (in most cases)
there are definately many flavors of sociopath.
X¤MurderDoll¤X
02-06-2007, 08:05 AM
a sociopath is basically just someone who doesnt have any consideration for anyone but themselves.
seriously - it's over 1/2 the corporate environment.
and the government... military...
looking at vod's thread in true crime, Donald Rumsfield is a damn fine example of a sociopath.
they're assholes, but we need em... well some of them we don't need. :)

I added the 'wrong diagnosis' part, all my medical records actually say that I have ''sociopathic behavior''. Whenever I apply for a job that background checks(Which is pretty much all of 'em) it pops right up, which is sorta creepy considering the fact that I work at a school.
The sociopath thing comes from the serotonin thing, both of which come from the schizo thing, all of which comes from that stupid piece of pork filled with hot air.
Granted, I'm a little weird and to myself, but my psych just wanted me to be a lunatic for reasons completely oblivious to me. I'm an extremely shy person with a bit of an attitude problem whose way over passionate about football, that's it.
I guess most of the misconception came from how shy I am until I get around anything pertaining to football. Say if I were to meet any one of you guys in person(God forbid it be someone good lookin), it wouldn't be much fun 'cause I normally don't say much of anything to someone new for about 4+ months besides hi, bye, yes, no, maybe, I don't know ect. Bunch of short responses which probably can't be heard over the sound of my heart pounding. However, if you were to start talking about football or if we happen to be at a football game I'd open right up. That's just how I am, always have been probably always will be, doesn't mean I'm nuts.
I happen to be writing a book on the subject.

i think that being shy has a lot to do with trust issues. people dont trust other people to be decent, or not to laugh at them .. despite the fact that they arent doing anything wrong. i usually suspect that began at home as a kid.
untalkative kids i see... are usually products of untalkative parents ..
You've got the reason right but the cause in my personal situation comes from school. I was a class clown until I hit 6th grade, it's like I grew a target on my back over summer. Now I can't really open up to a person the way I'd like to because I'm unable to trust someone too soon.
austin .. thats probably why you participate in a forum .. you want to have a voice..you need the outlet ..its easier to trust strangers you cant see.
I absolutely agree, that's why I like hangin around this place so much. I love conversation but if you're not one of only about 8 people(including my girlfriend, who's the only person I've ever instantly connected with), I literally can't talk to you as far as having a decent conversation is concerned. It's extremely frustrating.
I actually might've made a slight misjudgment, I think I'd feel comfortable around some of the folks here even more so than most people in my personal life.
