Amorphous monsters

Okay, so there are some classic monsters out there that were amorphous (for the ones that arent sure, these are amoeba-like monsters, or ones with no real shape).

I dont think, at least inmy experience, that there have been all that many movies dealing with these things that realised their full potential. here is a list of movies i think qualify:

The blob (both of them)
Phantoms
The Thing (More protean than amorphous, but i still think it applies)
The Stuff


i cant think of any more right now (i welcome additions), but theyjust always seem to barely touch what a creature like this could do.

Phantoms the book was excellent, Dean koontz explored the subject wonderfully. The movie... well, lets just say that if i have seen a worse movie, I cant think of it.

I don't know about in horror movies, but the subject is covered 50 billion times in Star Trek.

I remember the Mask cartoon (the one in the 80s with the guys with environmental suits and special vehicles) had a huge amorphous monster episode, it was a combination of an amoeba and snowleopard or some shit.

GI Joe also had one, they kille dit by making it eat an apple orchard, and the combined poison from thousands of apple seeds (apprently, they containan infintesemally small amout of poison) caused it to explode:rolleyes: . yet, as retarded as they were, both were a couple of my favorite episodes....

I need to cover this in a short story. my philosophy, if you dont like what is out there, dont bitch, do better yourself. So expect a blob like story soon. :)

Hey Vod...I think you forgot to mention the one in "The raft" from Creepshow...Wasn't that where this thought came from?...:)

I agree that the Phantoms book was way better than the movie (but, I pretty much feel this way about ALL book versus movie scenarios)...However, I can DEFINITELY think of worse movies than Phantoms...Have you seen Leprechaun?...How about Full Moon's "Killjoy"?...Bloody Murder?...Woodchipper Massacre?...Okay, I could go on forever, so I'll just stop here, I think you get my point...I also think that you must be underestimating the vast amount of super shitty movies out there

Phantoms qualifies liek this for me because there was soo much potential, and it was wasted on a shitty screen adaption, and Ben Affleck and Rose Mcgowan? Talk about second rate. (Or is that too good, maybe 7th rate for rose and 6th for Ben?)

The other movies you listed were stillborn, they never had a chance because they sucke from the very beginning, not even having decent concepts, but Phantoms.... Koontz is a decent writer with some excellent stories under his belt, but they get such horrible people to make the movies....

If they ever make "Lightning" or "The Bad Place", they better do a great fucking job....

Anyway, i had forgotten about the Raft already :) Damn thing ate the ducks. Evil oil slick.... The very end (with the sign) reminds me of Groundskeeper Willie putting up the "Danger: Well" sign after Bart falls in it and gets out. Dont try TOO hard tokeep people from dying, some paint on a board will do the trick... Becuse EVERYONE always reads the signs....:rolleyes:

Okay Vod...So, going by THAT logic...I would have to say that the movie "Watchers" was infinitely worse than the movie "Phantoms"...Disagree?

BTW...In case you couldn't tell...I actually liked the movie "Phantoms"...Not LOVED it, mind you, but liked it:)
