It was bound to happen, it usually does. They take the charter from a long running horror/slasher series and stick them in space. It happened with Hellraiser, Critters, Lepracun, and the curse of space travel has finally fallen on my favorite day: Friday the 13th. You would think this movie is going to suck but it doesn't, it kicks ass. Too bad it is Kane Hodder's last appearance as Jason. But anyways lets dish out the goods and bads on Jason X.
I have never really been a big fan of putting horror movie charters in space, unless that is where they belong. But this movie has changed my outlook on that subject. Jason is now over 500 years old, and like a fine wine he only gets better with age. Jason X contained the right amount of violence (lots) which I have come to expect from the Friday series. With plenty of gore to go along with it.
But there are a couple of flaws of course. First of all, New Line Hyped the hell out of uber Jason, with the trailers for this flick. Evil gets an upgrade my ass. Uber Jason didn't even kill anybody, unless you count two cyborgs (which is funny as hell). Shouldn't uber Jason mean bad ass mo fo who is going to kill you on all levels of pain? I thought so, but it doesn't happen, instead we get a zombie Jason wannabe who doesn't even look that cool.
Second, there is no charter development in this film. Which is kind of a bummer because I like not wanting charters to die, because when they finally do bite the dust it makes it all the more fun. (Heh... I just realized that I might have some problems, oh well.) But we do get a few likeable charters, mostly Kay-Em. She is a cyborg that looks and functions exactly like a human, that is if you over look the fact that she doesn't have nipples. But kay-em is one of the best charters in Jason - X, next to Jason of chorse. Especially in her S&M getup.
Overall though Jason X is a great installment in the franchise. With gore, violence, and gore, you will not be disappointed. Unless you are offended by robots who's nipples fall off.
