I just posted a review in the topic here.

But I thought this movie needed a topic as it's worth checking out. And it flopped at the Box Office. They could have marketed this movie a lot better as there is a big surprise in the movie which I posted in the spoiler review.

I agree, UNDERWATER is a very cool movie and the surprise at the end was very well done. Hopefully we will get more movies using this "genre" in the future, including DEL TORRO'S adaption of AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS. These stories need to be told.

Sadly, I don't think there's anything in the works with Del Torro to do At the Mountains of Madness. Personally, I'd rather not see it done if it isn't done right. I think Del Torro's the guy to pull it off and he really, really wants to make it but he needs a lot of money, A list actors and studio backing to make that happen. Hopefully, someday.

I think del Toro will make it. I saw an interview with him a few months back when he joked that he wore the Mistakonic University ring because he loved the book that much.

I read that interview also so he seems committed to the idea but he also says it isn't up to him. I'm very hopeful, fingers crossed.

Same here, if anyone understands how a Lovecraft story needs to be told, it's him. Would Nicholas Cage be the right person to play the lead? I think so.

I was pleasantly surprised about this movie, what stood out for me most were 3 things:
1. the beautiful set (environment and underwater suits)
2. the Characters personalities reflected trough out the journey
3. the mind twist at the end, I am a big fan of lovecraft

I have to disagree with you on the characters. The movie didn't make me care about any of them, which made it much less engagning.

Good to have ya, 16Bitnights! I have to agree with Angra; I didn't care about the characters in Underwater either. I thought they were very bland and shallow. I did mildly enjoy the funny comments of one character, but I don't recall who was or what was motivating his actions.

I understand, in comparison with movies like "the thing" they are very low but for me in comparison to what was released in past years, they were solid.

I watched a few youtube videos about Underwater recently. I think because they reviewed other stuff so I was curious. Those videos also pointed out how Alien handled the characters versus Underwater. Which is a valid claim. But I think you also have to understand modern audiences that seem to want something to blow up every 10 or so minutes.
I think Underwater tried something different with the action right from the start and minimal character development. It's not the best with two characters that I mentioned in my review. Also with the main character's decision at the end. But there is an alternate better ending. And I think the director and studio should have overwritten the actor on that theatrical ending.

What did the video review say about how Underwater handled the characters vs Alien? got a link, id be interested in checking that out.
What was the main characters decision at the end? You mean punching that chic and sending her up in the last pod, i think?
So what happened in the alternate ending version? Is that on youtube?
The character development in Alien was fun. Character development shouldn't be a chore. Shouldn't feel like a chore. Almost all fiction films are about the characters. Great, interesting, suspenseful, scary story subject matter, and impressive visuals, are a wonderful plus for a film, but it's about the characters. I thought character development in Underwater seemed choreful... to invent a word.

The decision I was talking about was Norah's sacrifice and giving up which I didn't buy since she's fixing stuff from the beginning. You can even see in the normal version how the escape pod exterior light is flickering green and red. Showing that it's just some glitch or malfunction that can be fixed. Not a solid red light. Here is the alternate ending.

I love character development. That's what makes a good movie. You have to care about the characters. Believe they are real. Not just videogame characters or people that can survive anything. But I do get the attempt in Underwater. Another person on the HorrorDVD forum compared it to a roller coaster ride. I guess because it starts fast and only has a few slow points.
Here are all the videos I watched on Underwater. The Alien one first.

Writing about horror or analyzing it can be such a deep and creative process. Whether it’s crafting a story, exploring themes, or just organizing your thoughts, it helps to have a clear structure and some guidance. I remember working on a paper about the psychological aspects of horror and finding resources like legit essay writing service (https://essaybox.org/) really helped me get my ideas together. It’s amazing how much easier it becomes when you have the right tools to support your creativity, especially for topics as intricate and thought-provoking as horror. Definitely keeps the process fun and stress-free!
