Hello horrorheads,

This list/interivew was published today and I wanted to share it here to get your thoughts. A specialist in gothic and horror literature picks five of the scariest modern horror novels and defends them in the interview:

https://fivebooks.com/best-books/the-scariest-books-xavier-aldana-reyes/

Includes a discussion of Shirley Jackson, Stephen King, H P Lovecraft, Clive Barker, and Kathe Koja.

Do you agree? Any unforgivable omissions? What would be your top five?

Seven Days Of Cain by Ramsey Campbell is probably the only horror book that really scared me.

IT by KIng comes close though.

Horror does not tend to scare me, but in recent memory The Drowning Girl by Caitlin R. Kiernan gave me nightmares, so that's a notable exception.

I read half way through Rings by Koji Suzuki before putting the book down. It got real creepy.
