2016 was a pretty down year for horror, IMO. I am looking forward to It. Especially in light of the clown gangstalking. But what was the best of the mediocre this year?

For me the best were The Conjuring 2 and Quija 2.

I didn't like The Witch or The Shallows, though they had some good or admirable qualities. ::big grin::

I might have found it a little underwhelming. I don't really remember too much of it.

Loved The Witch.

I enjoyed Conjuring 2 and The Shallows enough to put them at numbers two and three but neither film had any great impact on me.
Don't Breathe was a fun watch but never felt like a Horror movie to me.

Out of those offered I think I would choose Baskin or Witch.

I chose 'Other', however, as I enjoyed the Korean zombie movie Train to Busan (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5700672/?ref_=nv_sr_1) more than these.

Best psychological horror:
The Blackcoat's Daughter (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3286052/?ref_=nv_sr_1)

Best killer horror:
Cat Sick Blues (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4185862/?ref_=nv_sr_1)

Best scary horror:
The Blackcoat's Daughter (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3286052/?ref_=nv_sr_1) again, as it creeped me the fuck out. No other movie scared me this year.

Most enjoyable horror movie:
Train to Busan (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5700672/?ref_=nv_sr_1). A great zombie movie! Zombies were a real threat, the characters were explored enough to care about them and the violence was visceral without being tacky. I really enjoyed this one.

My most enjoyable movie experience this year.....
Either Re-animator (1985) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0089885/?ref_=nv_sr_1) or The Thing (1982) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0084787/?ref_=nv_sr_1)

Best horror film for me was Cat Sick Blues with American Guinea Pig : BLOODSHOCK! close, very close behind if not tied.

More mainstream films that are excellent, Jack Goes Home, Train to Busan and I Am Not A Serial Killer.

Don't Breathe - Great movie. Incredibly tense with a cool story

10 Cloverfield Lane - Surprisingly good even with the out of nowhere strange ending.

Green Room - Really good movie with good performances and believable characters.

Ouija II - Havent seen it yet

Baskin - First part was great but it went downhill quick

Conjuring II - This was great. Better then the first one.

The Witch - Loved this. For me this is the horror film of the horror. Creepy, a good story and disturbing without having to rely on gore, jump scares or any other cheap horror tactic.

Purge: Election Year - Haven't seen it.

The Shallows - Surprisingly good but nothing special
