Hellraiser remake is shooting according to doug bradley via his facebook page. There is more. Very disappointing.
"FROM DOUG:
"Ladies, Gentlemen and Others,
I gather word is beginning to spread about the new Hellraiser movie which is, apparently, already shooting.
First, a point of clarification. This is the first time I have said anything about this. Anything else you have heard me say about any proposed Hellraiser film refers to the constantly rumored remake. And, for the record, I still know nothing about that.
First I heard about this new film was around Christmas in a phone call from Gary Tunnicliffe, who was my make-up artist on Bloodline through Hellworld. Gary, you may recall, also wrote the screenplay for Revelations. He has written and is directing this new effort. I can also assert, contrary to some rumours I've already seen, that Clive Barker is not involved with this in any way, shape or form.
Gary said he would send me a copy of the script when he had completed a second draft, but before I could be allowed to set eyes on the precious document, I was required to sign a gagging order. This was a three page document preventing me from talking about the script 'in restrooms', 'on elevators', 'in restaurants' or 'in cellular telephone conversations which may be overheard'. There was also dark reference to 'people talking out of turn at conventions'. I read this thing in disbelief, and informed Gary I would not be signing it.
And that's that. Clearly, I am deemed too much of a security risk to be allowed to read a Hellraiser script. People are starving to death in Syria and they're worried about me talking about a Hellraiser movie? Get a fucking grip. Can you say 'sense of proportion'?
Anyway, story short: a new movie is happening and I have nothing do with it. I was unable to make a decision about it because I was not allowed to read the script, unlike Revelations where I made a conscious decision not to do the movie based on the motives for making it and the poor quality of the script.
And that's everything."

Wow. I probably wouldn't see the remake anyway, even if Doug Bradley was in it. I don't think a remake is needed. Leave it alone. The original is just fine.

Just a note, this isn't the long rumored remake. This is another low budget sequel. Remember how Dimension lost the rights to the Halloween franchise because they didn't create any new material in a while? That is why this movie exists. It is dimensions attempt not to lose the right to Hellraiser. It doesn't have to do well, or even be good, it just has to exist. So please keep in mind, this is not a remake. Another note, Nancy from Nightmare on elm street is in this one. Its shooting in Oklahoma City.

Remake or no, Revelations seemed like a sign that the franchise isn't going in the right direction anymore and should just stop. I applaud Doug on his decisions, not backing anything without seeing the script and approving of it, I would've done the same. It is a shame though that without him having read the script to this newest one to even approve of it or not, we haven't the faintest idea if it'll be any good. He mentions Clive Barker having nothing to do with it so chances are it will be another Revelations.

Personally, I'm not completely against a Hellraiser remake as long as it remains as Gothic and gritty as the original. After reading this though, I don't think I'll be watching this one

No Doug and Clive Barker involved? Farewell, Hellraiser...::sad::

This actually makes me feel a little better... I'm not going to pass judgement until I see it.

Never been a huge fan of the original so I'll probably see it.
The sequel was pretty good tho.

Why can't they get their business in order? I thought Clive Barker was on the remake. That's the movie I was waiting for. Not what I've gathered seems to be yet another re-purposed script turned into a Hellraiser movie.

I always thought Hellraiser was among the stronger of the many long-running series out there. Sad to hear that it's devolved into straight-to-video rubbish without Doug Bradley.

Hellraiser 1 and 2 are sacred. Period. Anything after that is not only an insane drop off but suffers from the diminishing return principle (not necessarily on money but surely on enjoyment). Ok, I'll admit 4 did have some concepts I like but that is all you'll get out of me. Sadly, I doubt we will ever see a return to the glory days of 1 and 2. The less said about 'cd head' the better!

Its been a while, but I liked Deader. Probably my third favorite in the series.

Too much focus on the dead loving cult and not enough Cenobite! Actually, the more I think about it, the movies past #4 could probably stand on their own as decent/passable (horror/suspense/thriller) movies WITHOUT the Cenobites and therefore without the Hellraiser name.

First and second are two of my favorite horror movies, the second one especially. I don't even remember III, and after almost leaving the theater in the middle of IV (Bloodline), I never watched another one again.
Tired of cash-in sequels and remakes, that's for damned sure. Just. Stop.

Generally yes, but as I said above Deader was good. I suggest at least giving it a try.

There is something so blasphemous about remaking such a classic.

Technically its not a remake... Judgement is a kind of reboot of the entire system. Initially the third movie was written without Pinhead, but the script was changed out of fear of losing the fan base. I met the "new" pinhead at Frightmare this last year. He was literally just walking around handing out business cards. I took one from him and watched him walk away, then I looked at it... It literally says "Paul T. Taylor: Pinhead" Its a fucking business card for Pinhead. I freaked and caught up to him, we talked for almost an hour. He is passionate and loves the new drift for the movie. In case you weren't aware there is very little pinhead and it instead rests more on the values of the rest of the Cenobites. He helped to convince me that this is an excellent addition to the franchise. I'm in, and I am a die hard hellraiser fan. His card has stayed in my wallet since.

I do love the man's enthusiasm for the character. I admire it even. It gives me hope for the new movie, but I'm still going in with low expectations just to be safe.
As long as the minimal Pinhead appearances are for important and dramatic scenes, it could work. I mean he is the figurehead of the cenobites, his presence should demand fear and respect by all who see him, so that would make for an awesome climax scene.

*****SPOILERS******
Have you read The Scarlet Gospels? It goes so deep into the underworld, its beautiful. It also makes it clear that he is really just one of many in an order of cenobites. Not really a leader, more of an outcast searching for his place.

It sounds fantastic, I'd like to read it someday. When I have money to burn again.
I saw the first one quite a few years back - it unnerved the bejesus out of me so much, I've not gone near the others... ::EEK!::

I didn't like the book much. Adding Lucifer and other demons ruins the idea that the cenobites ARE demons and ARE angels. That was always satisfying.

But, if you follow the Mythos deeper, read the graphic novels and comics. You'll realize that the Scarlet Gospels plays on the story line perfectly.

To drag this back to film. Holy crap, the trailer for Judgement is great. I'm hoping this movie lives up to my expectations.
