HDC HORROR MOVIE DRAFT
Rules For Sign-Ups
- If you wish to participate in the horror draft please reply in this thread notifying that you wish to be on the draft.
- Once 8 or more members have signed up for the draft they will be placed in the other they will make their draft picks in.
Rules For Drafting
- Starting with #1 each player will choose a film when it is their turn in this format:
Movie Title (Year) Director
- Once the last player has selected their movie it will end the round and that same player will select again for the next round and the drafting order will go in reverse from the previous round. For example, the player who chooses first in round 1 will choose last in round 2 but then choose first in round 3.
- Each player will be given 12 hours to make their choice once it is their turn. If you miss your turn you will be skipped. If you miss 3 turns you will be removed from the game.
- If you think it might become your turn when you are unable to login and make your pick for a round you may PM your pick to someone on the forum to post your pick on your behalf.
- If you are the last to choose in a round you will still be given 12 hours for each round. If you miss the first round you will then be given the 12 hours for the next round but may only choose for the current round.
- For anyone who misses round you may make up the rounds you missed after round 10 of drafting in the order in which you missed.
Voting Rules
- Once drafting is complete all players will be broken into matches of 2 where the members of the forum will vote on the films on a scale of 1-5 or by leaving a n/a if you have not seen a film.
- Each film that is drafted will have a link (if applicable) in a separate thread for your convenience so you may catch up and vote more accurately.
- If the match is yours do not vote in it.

I just want to say one thing..I never pick popular mainstream movies. I never win these. I don't care about winning. : ) I pick films as recs. Maybe one or two of my opponents will see something different or be interested in my choices...that's what I like. If I can introduce you to something new, I win. I don't care if I have all H/S. It's fine. I love the drafting process and I love seeing themes someone may choose and getting to know what films everyone adores. It may sound stupid but this is what I do. : )

Say, why do we need to list the director? I would think name & year is suffice to avoid confusing 2 films. You know... that you're aware of, in the history of horror films, has there ever been 2 films with the exact same name, to be released the same year?
As host, what's your opinion on how to rate a film if someone saw part of a film?

I think there may have been 3 or 4 movies I hadn't seen from the last draft. And that's including all of the lists. I'm old, I've watched horror since I was 5, and when I haven't seen one,my curiosity won't allow it to go unwatched for long. I say, BRING THAT SHIT!!!

I guess it isn't necessary but it just helps with better referencing the films. I would prefer to keep it as it is because there are sometimes multiple films with the same name and for some people listing the year alone could confuse them.

Last draft I took movies I loved, plain and simple.
This time, I may do the same but vary the titles a bit. Unless all of those gems that were available to me last draft, are once more! I had some MONSTERS!
Next draft should have a theme! Like, only movies made outside of the United States, or movies made after 1980 or something. Keep the titles fresh, dig?

Watched and enjoyed Howling IV! First things first. The hair and the clothes!! Hahaha! Oh MY. Okay, got that out of the way.
I'll start with the negatives.
It may have just been the version I watched online, but the dialogue seemed 99 percent dubbed, and it was sloppily done. That annoyed me. The biggest negative for me was the performance by Michael T. Weiss as Richard, husband of Marie. Wooden and comatose are not moody and smoldering. Someone should tell Mr. Weiss that.
Also, the music? Ugh.
The positives.
Very nice work by the lead, Romy Windsor, Her character, along with most of the side characters, was believable and I felt pretty shitty for her, considering all she had to endure. The direction was a bit uneven, which, though I love a few of Hough's films, isnt a massive surprise when taking into account his entire body of work. Still, it was not unimpressive at times.
On to the big transformation sequence. INSANE! It looked painful, like some awful oozy rebirth, It had me scrambling to see who did the FX. Loved it, and if this title comes up in conversation, that scene will be the first thing I think of. I thought the Lycan design was unique, especially the appearance and shape of the head and face.
I'd say overall, it was a fun morning watch! I can understand any uber-wolfie fan having a soft spot for this film. Thanks for the rec, Roi.

Rules For Drafting[/CENTER]
- Once the last player has selected their movie it will end the round and that same player will select again for the next round and the drafting order will go in reverse from the previous round. For example, the player who chooses first in round 1 will choose last in round 2 but then choose first in round 3.
- Each player will be given 12 hours to make their choice once it is their turn. If you miss your turn you will be skipped. If you miss 3 turns you will be removed from the game.
- If you are the last to choose in a round you will still be given 12 hours for each round. If you miss the first round you will then be given the 12 hours for the next round but may only choose for the current round.
- For anyone who misses round you may make up the rounds you missed after round 10 of drafting in the order in which you missed.

The fun for me is watching as many of everyones picks as I can before the voting starts. It's a blast being introduced to new titles, and going back to watch already cherished classics. This draft may not end until january::big grin::, but it's giving me time to really get into the spirit.
So far, I've seen these movies for the first time,
Cannibal, (Link provided by Morningriser)
POD (Blind buy, based on Deadbeats rec.)
Jennifer Help Us (Link provided by Deadbeat)
The Howling IV (Link by Morningriser)
Revenge of Frankenstein (Link by Morningriser)
Thanks to you guys for the chance to see these!
Movies I've rewatched. Easy to do cause these are already in my collection
Evil Dead 2
Curse of Frankenstein
Curse of the Demon
Psycho
Bride of Frankenstein
So, anyone else taking advantage of the slow draft process and clicking those links? Anyone pulling discs and tapes off the movie shelf for a re-watch?

I don't sit at my PC desk watching films either. But I do have special cord and clone screen setting on my video card so that I can run it to my large flat screen TV and watch internet films reclining comfortably in my bed. You should set that up in whichever room you have your PC. Or if you have a laptop, you can get this to send it to any TV in your house. I use quite often, very worth it. Just tell the boys at Staples what you want.

Umm, Not even sure. It sounds familiar, but as I've told you before, my mind kind of blocks out the flicks I don't like. Been at least 7 or 8 years since I've seen it. My biggest obstacle to liking it was that it just didn't feel like it belonged with the first two. The tone of the film was so different, it felt misplaced.

Ah yes this is way overdue. (i always freak out over replying to werewolf related things and in response take forever idk why)
Ugh.
Omg right I hated Richard. And it wasn't even because he was a terrible character but because it was just a terrible performance. I felt sorry for the people having to play off of him, and felt nothing when he turned to a puddle of goo with the exception of irrational delight. ::smile::
The music I thought nothing of so you're probably right about it not being so great. It certainly wasn't as memorable as the original's.
I had no problems with the other actors. Or direction, but that might be because I had read the book and knew where it was going but I dunno. I've certainly seen worse directing.
THIS IS WHAT I WAS WAITING FOR! As you said, the transformation scene is what makes this werewolf film stand apart from any other I've ever seen. Certainly the grossest, weirdest, almost makes you feel the character's pain-est, I have ever seen. There really are no words for it. The werewolves themselves however I was actually more disappointed in. The transformations never built up to anything fantastic through each step like the first did. We just assume they melt into puddles or pull off their faces and eventually they're just large dogs rather than bipedal manbeasts. But again, I've seen worse.
But I'm very glad you gave it a shot and liked it, Repo! A review from a big horror nut like you means a lot to this lycan lover. ::love::

Happy to watch and to share my opinions on it, Roi. It's ALL about the movies, right? I love recommendations from serious horror fans, like yourself.
Yeah, I've seen waaay worse directing too. Like I said, it was a little uneven at times but still quality work. Hough's always interesting.
Thanks for the rec! Now I can give it an educated ranking in our draft!

I want to try and see at least some of DeadBeatAtDawn's picks before I vote.
Repo'd, thank you for your kind words about my picks!

You should extend voting through the weekend. I've seen a lot of new films from the lists, like to see a few more.

Argh as usual there's a lot of ''h/s'' on my voting posts. I at least got a few in before voting started so could've been worse. ::roll eyes::

Morning, shouldn't you wait for everyone to post their votes before you say who advances? If I hadn't gotten on to post at least one before I had to ''afk'' again, Repo would've been the only one to vote for Sculpt vs. DeadBeatAtDawn.

I posrws in 2 threads everyone would have 72 hours to vote (24 more than last time) so if they didnt vote its their fault.

With all due respect, this draft seems to be flatlining.

Thanks Repo'd for voting in my match. Like I said in the beginning, I throw recs out there. Maybe something alittle different from the indie/underground scene. If I give someone a new favorite film, I win! My opponent should reap the joy of winning, so go and vote and give his movies some love!
Here is how I'd score his list!
Sculpt
- Psycho (1960) Alfred Hitchcock ~ 5
- Halloween (1978) John Carpenter ~ 5
- Jaws (1975) Stephen Spielberg ~ 4
- The Exorcist (1973) William Friedkin ~ 5
- Night of the Living Dead (1968) George A. Romero ~ 5
- Alien (1979) Ridley Scott ~ 3
- Poltergeist (1982) Tobe Hoope ~ 3
- Suspiria (1977) Dario Argento ~ 4
- A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) Wes Craven ~ 4
- Dog Soldiers (2002) Neil Marshall ~ 5
Score:43

Thank you, DeadbeatAtDawn, I've happily watched some of your films; films I would not have found by myself. So I thank you for your recs! You know your horror, my friend!
I inappropriately was hoping Morningriser would extend the deadline. But I'll be voting on the next round.
