The Invisible Man Returns.

When I was a kid my family went and saw Evil Dead and Nightmare on Elm Street as a double feature at the Drive In. That is one of my most awesome memories, and I was super tiny.

The first one that I really remembered, all the way through, was Carrie (at the drive-in), when I was 10 years old...But, I know that I saw some black and white stuff on the t.v. before that...Dracula, Frankenstein...Stuff like that

ShankS
06-12-2004, 12:11 PM
this has got me thinking...

cant remember exactly but some of the old black & white Bela Lugosi and Christopher Lee vampire films were some of the early ones I watched as a kid.

Some of the old Werewolf and Frankenstein ones would be in that list too.

the first thing taht REALLY stuck with me.. i was like 4 and happened to flip the TV on USA... well the original nightmare on elm st. was on... and it was right at the scene where Tina goes outside ... i got all the way to the part where she's screaming like crazy and on the ceiling... and i was of course stunned and thrilled with terror... my mom heard the screaming... came in and yelled at me to turn it off... she told me "you can invite stuff in by watching things like that" ... that statement has stayed with me ever since... and has forever reinforced my love of horror :)

First time I saw it, at the time I woulda considered ghostbusters horror, but I think every kid should watch that...

The first movie I can remember to give me nightmares would have to be The Shuttered Room with Gig Young, Carol Lynley and Oliver Reed. Surely not scary by todays standards but when your a wee lad of nine it could give you the creeps.

i had nightmares for years! You can't be very old then, if he got ALL of them but number 5. Because New Nightmare was made in like, 2000 or something.

I had no mother and I was a bastard, meaning I had no farther. I could watch WHATEVER I WANTED. I think Star Wars was my first movie, but I hated it.

EDIT: Freddy didn'y have a child, in Dream Child he invaded the Dreams of Alice's unborn son.

It was probably Child's Play... I really wanted to watch it, so my mom let me and when she did, she wished she hadn't let me. I was really small then, probably 5 years old or something. But it scared me cause I had a room full of dolls. So I guess I thought they were going to come and kill me while I was sleeping. :p

Hey I thought I saw that it was your birthday! So HAPPY BIRTHDAY IF SO!!!!!:D

I had this little girl manequin that my brother got from a store garbage when I was little. Called her Rosa. She scared the shit out of me though, had to give her away because I couldn't even sleep with her in my closet.

Child's play, was based I think, on a movie I saw when I was little, about a dad that travelled around the world, and brings his daughter back a doll......... that was a whole hell of a lot scarier than Child's Play, but I was too young to remember what it was called! A horror guru might know it though.

The first horror movie I remember watching without closing my eyes is Poltergeist. For some reason, it used to come on TV almost all the time ... maybe it was on HBO or something. But I have to say, that movie scared the living crap out of me ... two scenes being particularly memorable:

1. The "ghost-hunter" ripping his face off at the sink

2. The clown doll going after the little boy. This one had me peeking under the bed for weeks. I still don't like clown dolls. Mostly because I'm a 30 year old guy who doesn't get into things like clowns ... or dolls for that matter.

you know.. poltergeist is absolutely wonderful in surround sound :)... i also can't believe it's only PG... i would think it should be PG-13... yea it's not that bad... but some of the stuff makes it a little more than PG in my opinion

Really? I just got a surround sound system not too long ago. Perhaps I should pick up a copy of that old film and watch it again. As far as it being PG, I agree with you. But I don't believe that PG-13 was an existant rating when Poltergeist was released. I could be wrong. But the face-ripping scene is pretty gory, and the scene where mom and dad are enjoying a before-bed joint wouldn't fly nowadays with a PG rating.

In regards to the PG-13 rating ... here's a quote from the MPAA website:

"On July 1, 1984, we made another adjustment. We split the PG category into two groupings, PG and PG-13. PG-13 meant a higher level of intensity than was to be found in a film rated PG."

So, apparently, Poltergeist came out before the PG-13 rating was conceived. May explain the strange PG rating on it.

Halloween, Friday the 13th, II and III in 3D, Dawn of the Dead, saw Texas Chainsaw Massacre, (at the US 40 Drive In) Last house on the left was not in or around my area, but I remeber it got a lot of press due to its gore. I need some help on this one !! please help !

First horror movie ?

- I was still living in mexico, and I was first introduced to a VCR when my older brother, Saved up 4 of his paychecks to buy one....
Not sure if you guys remember, but they were expensive as heck in the early 80's.... My brother bought it as an investment, lol ...
he made a mini-theater at my house, in his big ass room !!. Well to make my bullshit story short, he had a Movie schedule ....Monday--Action Tueday--Martial arts Wed ---Sun ..PORN, j/k. .. HORROR movie day was on saturday... And me being the youngest one, I was not allow to watch horror movies....Or my mom would close down the theater lol , well, one day I freakin cry, and cry till they finally let me watch my first horror movie. My ?? ...I dont remember the name, But It was about a group of High school or College students who used to pick in a fat kid, everybody made fun of him........Till one day I'm not sure but he goes to a big house / school building and he starts praying the devil. " not sure but I think he kills a pig and offers it to the devil". He get's some evil powers,,,, And he kills most of the people who were making fun of him... The thing that scared me the most was when he ""gets off the ground and He starts floating forward as he was posses, and kills a lady, i think a teacher. Well thats all I remember!!! hope you can help me find the name of this movie... If you do, I'll give you my 2cents ..j/k

---There's a reward if you find out the name :)

I bought my first VCR in 81-82. They had Betamax, or VHS, they also had laser discs but they were not that popular. The things weighed like 30-40# and like you said cost around $1000, and for a wireless remote you had to pay extra. You had to sign contracts and pay membership fees to rent movies, and the selections were not that great. Wow I feel so old...
