I usually don't spend money on movies if I am not 100% sure I will like it. I have made blind buys before but am usually satisfied, with the exception of the Carrie remake.

I did too, but just enough to reccomend it based on its availability to you, and not with any sense of urgency. I saw it in the theater and enjoyed it.

I wonder what the "original film" on the blu ray is? I guess I'll find out tomorrow.

Well, definitely not Knock Knock. That garbage was unwatchable.
But there's some good ones on the list:
The Visit
Attack on Titan
The Final Girls
Extinction
It Follows

Has anyone besides me seen the Poltergeist remake? I for one thought it had decent effects but it was basically the same story only with a male psychic this time. It could have been much better, then again, probably not.

Yeah, Green Inferno and The Visit were worthwhile titles.. I also thought Unfriended was better than I anticipated it would be. They managed to maintain a fair amount of tension and the acting was decent. the Gallows was a fun watch to a degree, but they lost me on the ending.
2015 hasn't been a great year for Horror, but it wasn't awful. Crimson Peak is still to come!

Agreed, a good year but not a great one. Last year? Only Lovers Left Alive, The Babadook, As Above So Below, Oculus, All Cheerleaders Die, At The Devil's Door, Starry Eyes...
I dont know, I would have to give the nod to 2014. Overall both had some good work but nothing about either year as a whole overwhelmed me.
am i the onlyone who really didnt like It Follows??? kind of found the whole premise dumb, to keep passing it on like that and all.
but goodnight mommy is a must!!!
i still have to see The Gift, and am so pumped for Crimson Peak!!!
Poltergeist remake was okay i guess, its tough to remake a great horror from the past like that, especially when it is geared for a younger more family aspect style.
Sinister 2 is just horrible, and same with Insidious 3 (i hated all the aspects of Insidious with the old woman and going into that "other world").
I havent seen The Visit yet... didnt look great, but what are peoples thoughts on it so far???

Youre not alone, OLO. I didn't care for it at all and consider to be the most absurdly hyped horror of the year.

My opinion seems to be the minority view. It got great critical and fan reception, which totally baffled me, as I felt the film offered nothing new. It felt weak, like it had no foundation or something. But as you say, " shrug " . Different opinions are what make HDC interesting.

Really Oculus? Huh, I saw that in a empty theater alone and it still didn't get me. Normally I agree with you friend, not there.

I love seeing movies when the seats are empty! Oculus worked for me. Family connections are something I always like in films, and I think the suspense was handled tastefully, subtly even. The lead actress was easy to look at as well. Yeah, Oculus entertained me.
Goodnight Mommy is definitely a horror... obviously would gear it more towards a psychological horror though.
a lot of well set up scenes, and character connection, that emotionally and/or psychologically confuse, disturb, and even creep people out. torture aspects as well truly would disturb.
i read that a couple people actually passed out in the theaters, as well as some critics got up and actually left the theater at some points (not because it was a bad movie either)
The Gift, I heard was more like an intense movie, not sure cause I not seen it yet, but am excited to do so.

The Dead Lands (2014)
These Final Hours (2013)
Let Us Prey (2014)
Dude Bro Party Massacre III (2015)
Dark Was The Night (2014)
Turbo Kid (2015)
Deathgasm (2015)
And there's still a few coming.
Overal not a bad year for horror. And next year ain't looking bad either.

Nice list. That reminds me, I've had The Editor sitting around for like a month. Time to watch it.
On that regard, wasn't Babadook also become available this year?
I have Babadook and WWDITS at the top of my 2014 list, and saw them last year. I think they were available over paid streaming in 2014, and added to Netflix early 2015. I see no reason why they couldn't go on this year's list though since arriving on Netflix is like a full blown release.
I noticed on the last page a couple movies I tried out a while ago.
one was Cub (i think known as Welp) a Belgium film. I recommend this movie, though it is not a great great movie all in all. It's got all the cliche "camping" aspects to it, the cliche "older chaperone" aspects, and cliche "attitudes of the characters all intertwined in the story. nothing new.... BUT there are a couple shocking scenes set up in this the completely took me off guard, especially one that ties with one of the other threads in the forum about "killing kids in movies". i was in awe!!! Cub was a good movie to watch, and did have a good interesting story throughout.
Clown I also did watch. I personally think Clowns can be quite creepy all in all, but the aspect they took on this movie and a clown was truly interesting. Was I fully into the background of the why in this movie, no... kinda cheesy. but it was an interesting aspect once again and what happens during the movie was definitely cool to watch. It has scenes in it that kills some upcoming short story ideas I wanted to write almost, because I wanted aspects in those kid playgrounds with the tubes and stuff (hope i didnt spoil anything). But Clown was a decent movie.

I agree that overall I think 2014 might beat out 2015. Both years have some really good films at the top, but looking at my 2014 list, I think the films further down the list are stronger.

agreed too... but both years have really brought out some great horror movies, dealing with different aspects, twists, and creative ways attacking the genre. finally much more to like!!!
