I never realized just how many of our favorites he made until I looked up details about his passing.

I need a Hills Has Eyes marathon in his honor. And probably Scream since I actually own it. ;^;

Right there with ya, Roi. I'm rolling Hills Have Eyes now and I've pulled Nightmare on Elm, Dream Warriors, New Nightmare, all four Scream films and Last House on the Left from the shelf. I doubt that will be all I watch since I cant imagine watching anything non-Craven related for a few days.

Not ashamed to admit I shed a tear today for a great man. I've watched a few of Craven's movies today and I made it through fine…until the end credits for Scream came up and the song, Whisper to A Scream started. I couldn't help it. The guy has made art that has been a huge part of my life for decades, and will stay a part of my life for as long as I walk the Earth. Tears were inevitable, and for me, very appropriate.

Thanks for the appreciation, Repo. Respect & understand your feelings. As a Master Horror filmmaker, he indeed gave us so much that never can be forgettable in this lifetime. Every time now I see his warm, kind & gentle face in any site or fb page & the knowing that this legend is no longer with us anymore, it just saddens me more & more. If I'm not wrong I think he's the only Horror mastero with highest number of (4) franchises...ANOES, SCREAM, HILLS HAVE EYES & WISHMASTER!!

I feel for you, Roi. Ideally today would have been a national day of mourning for horror fans, and no one would have worked.

I feel really fortunate that I only had to work a few hours this morning, so I've been home, talking to some friends and watching some of my favorite Wes Craven films. It's also been nice to visit this forum and check in with my HDC family. We're definitely all of the same heart today.

For the record, I've watched ANOES, Last House on the Left, Hills Have Eyes and Scream. I think Cursed is next and tonight, I've got plans to watch Scream 4 with the one I love.

Despite our recent loss, I have to say that you finding comfort here to be quite warming to my heart.

The only Wes Craven flick I actually own. Go figure ::big grin:: ::roll eyes::
On the far right in my signature I included the werewolf from Cursed. I mostly threw it in there for the nostalgia as it was the first werewolf movie I think I bought for myself and I watched it so many times there after. Despite how the public viewed it, I was in love. I'm not big on CGI, in fact compared to traditional mediums like suits and props, I despise CGI. For that reason I considered taking the image out of my signature and replacing it with something more iconic to me, but I can't even think about doing such a thing now.

Oh if only... That's about my reaction every time I hear one of my favorite actors/directors/etc passes. I'm still in denial over Robin Williams to this day, and it doesn't help he was a comedian so it's like waiting a very very very long time for a punchline.

Thanks to a kidney stone I ended up in the emergency room last night. That means I'm confined to bed, pumped full of painkiller and watching the three Scream sequels back to back to back. Not feeling well has never felt so good.

Shit I've never had kidney stones, but sister did when she was very little, so I know from seeing firsthand how much they suck. Glad you're feeling better. I suppose I will be trying to watch something NOT connected to Wes Craven today. I've watched a bunch of Wes's flicks over the last two days and it's really been bittersweet. It's a thrill to watch the work of a master, but man, it's hard to think of the horror universe without Craven in it.

It is just so unbelievable. He was always one of my favorite horror movie directors. Some people say he is overrated, but I have always disagreed with this position. In honor of Wes Craven, I have decided to do an extended Wes Craven marathon, which I just began today. Here is the full list of my planned marathon:

Wes Craven's New Nightmare is a really good one. In my opinion, it is Craven's best film. While the first Nightmare film is certainly a classic and definitely wins points for its (relative) originality, New Nightmare is great because it takes the Nightmare series in an interesting new, if short-lived, direction. It is also the only slasher based film that I actually consider scary. It also utilized the meta plot before that technique was popularized for the horror genre by Craven's later film Scream. Now, this is not to say that the earlier films weren't great. They were. His best films outside of Scream and Nightmare were the Last House on the Left, The Hills Have Eyes, and The Serpent and the Rainbow. Of all the films Craven made, these films stand out as being among the best, but I still think that New Nightmare exceeds them all and it is actually pretty underrated itself. Most times if it even gets a reference, it's kind of an afterthought. Like "oh, yeah, that one was good. I like Freddy." Totally ignoring that the greatness of this film was that it was something very unique.

I second this. New Nightmare was a blast, it was intense and fun. It had everything a Freddy movie should have.
