I was driving through Maryland a couple of weeks ago, and took a detour to make a pilgrimage to Burkittsville. It's a tiny town, just one main street. I didn't recognize anything from the movie ... maybe they didn't film it on site? But it was great fun to be there, see it in zee flesh. :-)

It's the second horror movie location I've visited near Washington. The other was in Georgetown, the steep outdoor steps next to the building from The Exorcist. Very cool! Got chills ...

Anyone else visit any classic horror movie places?

I'm told that a lot of Burkittsville residents don't care much for Blair Witch inspired tourism. The sequel even made that a part of the storyline. Apparently the townsfolk weren't ready for the wave of Horror fans, Goth kids and assorted madcaps that followed Blair Witch's release. It's a shame, because they probably would have made a few bucks from the endeavor.

I've visited a few of the sites used in filming Night Of The Living Dead, including the spot where the house once stood. That's in a place called Evan City, if my memory serves me right. I also did an amazing Zombie Walk in the Monroeville Mall, famous for being the place our heroes take refuge in Dawn Of The Dead. We set the record at the time for largest Z walk in history. Sadly, a group in Germany wiped that record out within a week, but at least we held it for those seven days!!

JFC how could I forget being at the Monroeville mall. >.<
They had a neat little museum in it for Dawn of the Dead, but sadly since I've been there I heard it was taken out. 8/

I'd love to visit the abandoned Salt Pavilion that added so much atmosphere to Carnival of Souls.

Now that's one for my bucket list! Carnival Of Souls is such a provacative, eerie film.
