I started doing Kenpo on Monday,,,can't walk straight today...

Any one know when these mid life crisis stop ( I am 46).

It is the same martial art that fat Elvis did so it might suit me...

My belief is this. When the zombie apocalypse happens it will be useful to know some kind of hand-to-hand combat for self-defense.

Kickboxing and boxing is easy to learn and no excuse for not knowing some of the basic fundamentals.

I know Steven Seagal is big on Aikido but it is useless during a rampage (based purely on defense). Kung Fu is too slow and formal in these conditions as well IMO. Tae Kwon Do is also beautiful to watch but, again, a tad inefficient in a melee situation.

Jiu-Jitsu is great: grappling, striking, eye gouging, choke holds, biting, joint locks.

Just started Krav Maga, which is what the Israelis learn. Combines a lot of different things and emphasizes attacking vulnerable body parts: eyes, throat, groin. So far lots of fun.

Back when I was teen and could do stretch i spend 2 years doing Tae Kwon Do. Then I thought... what's the point?

I do regret not practicing splits anymore, coz that was pretty cool to be able to do.

I love martial arts and have taken a few, do you know what style of Kenpo you're taking? I know what you're saying though, as I get older even the thought of rolling tires me out lol.

LOL - I must have made this thread after too many ciders last night...

It seems to be American Kenpo - the Ed Parker style.
I was doing a bit of you tubing and it seems that he has come up with a Kenpo 5.0 - its sparring looks very like MMA with gi and head gear. My club seems to be be pretty traditional.

I was just looking for some where local and cheap that would get me off the couch in the evenings - I am 46 now, so I don't expect to become a kick boxing champion or any thing vaguely similar.
