I always had a certain appreciation for funny old guys.
Grey hair, classy clothing, serious but still goofy.
Actors like Leslie Nielsen (Naked Gun, Airplane) and Lloyd Bridges (Airplane, Hot Shots) are quite unique in my book...
But they've been gone for some time now and I was wondering who has potential to become a funny old guy.
Since most of you are movie nutters I'd like to know, who could you imagine playing a funny older guy in a movie like Naked Gun or Airplane?
Here are some of mine:
-Will Ferrell
-Liam Neeson
-James Woods
-Jim Carrey
actually both Leslie Nielsen and Lloyd Bridges got their start in dramatic roles. It wasn't until their later years when they went the comedy route.
so you have to revise your list a bit.

I was aware of that when I made my list.
-Will Ferrell: has also played a serious parts and did a good job too.
Check out Everything Must Go and Stranger Than Fiction.
-Liam Neeson: Lots of serious parts. Lately dabbling in comedy.
Anchorman 2, A Million Ways To Die In The West and the upcoming Ted 2.
-James Woods: Did all kinds of movies. Already played a strange grey haired fella in Scary Movie 2 as the priest from The Exorcist.
-Jim Carrey: did both comedy and drama.
I don't like all of his movies but I honestly think he's a good actor.

I read the title post as "Liam Niessan." To that I respond "Denzel Washington."
To your *actual* question - What about Paul Rudd (Wet, Hot American Summer and They Came Together) - Well maybe in a few years.
Also maybe
Steve Carrell
And where is Steve Martin?? He isn't dead yet!! ::wink::

Denzel Washington is a great suggestion.
Not so sure about Paul Rudd. You got a bit of a thing for him, don't you? =P
Steve Carrell's a good actor but I'm not sure he can pull it off.
Imo, as soon as he starts acting silly he loses all his serious characteristics.
Btw, I love lamp.
Never been a fan of Steve Martin in movies. And he violated Inspector Clouseau.
Now you mention Steve Martin, Chevy Chase comes to mind.
He was quite good in Community.
