I don't know if I can decide between the other two. The Monster Squad was a childhood favorite that I watched a thousand times. When I got a little older and discovered Lucio Fulci. City Of The Living Dead was the first film I saw from him. It remains one of my favorites and is a true masterpiece of Italian Horror. (I think we need a Top 100 Italian Horror list in the future)

I guess I'm going to vote for The Monster Squad because when I think of the 80's in general it pops more into my mind, but I think we need a "100 Classic Italian Horror Movies You Need To See" list.

Manhunter is a good film, and took a bit of an underground route to popularity. I haven't liked any blob movie to date. Better Off Dead is a quirky fun sub-classic, where Cusack showed what he does best. The Postman Always Rings Twice never worked for me, and evidently didn't work for the vast majority of people. Generally speaking, it seems to get good reviews only from the die-hards, snobby about the subject matter, Mamet & Nicholson. Compare Postman 1981 to say Double Indemnity 1944, and you see clearly which is the Emperor's New Clothes.

Enemy Mime (snicker) is a bit simple and corny, but I found it far more dramatically accessible (emotionally/intellectually) than Out of Africa. I was in the middle of my artsy high-drama kick when I saw Out of Africa, and oh my, it sure came off "literary" to me when I saw it, and that's not a good thing. The fun description is "glacial pacing".

Night of the Demons and Dead Ringers... you know, love or hate it. For film, nine times out of ten, I prefer story-art over art-story. The story, craft, and performance of Jeremy Irons (Dead Ringers) was excellent. Film was won many awards, but then again, Out of Africa won bigger ones. Demons had more fame, but the 'nightmare that makes no sense' isn't my bag.


(Dead Ringers won the Genie Award for Best Canadian Film of 1988.

Jeremy Irons' performance was highly acclaimed and won Best Actor awards from the Chicago Film Critics Association and the New York Film Critics Circle. When Irons won the Academy Award for Best Actor in 1991 for Reversal of Fortune, he thanked Cronenberg in his acceptance speech.[5] The film was nominated for the Grand Prix of the Belgian Syndicate of Cinema Critics.

It is the favorite Cronenberg film of Korean director Chan-wook Park[6] and was voted for in the 2002 Sight and Sound Poll by Lalitha Gopalan.[7] In 1999, Rolling Stone listed Dead Ringers as 95th on their list of 100 Maverick Movies.[8] Total Film placed Dead Ringers 35th on their list of the "50 Greatest Horror Movies Of All Time"[9] while Entertainment Weekly placed it 20th on their list of The 25 scariest movies of all time.[10] In 2004, the Toronto International Film Festival Group named Dead Ringers the 6th best Canadian Film ever made.[11] It was named one of "The Top 10 'True-Story' Horror Movies of All-time!" by Bloody Disgusting.[12])

Actually, I think I know what you mean. Tends to be love it/hate it like Demons for different reasons.

For me, I have to be in the mood to see a film like Dead Ringers. I think it takes one to task, and if you're not in the mood for crossword puzzle, it's taxing. And an actor playing two roles, and it's not comedy... that's gonna fall on one or the other side of the fence.

Hate that movie. Stanley Kubrick destroyed everything Stephen King did in the book and now anyone ever talks about is the movie despite the book being so much better. I've even seen references in film and TV when they say they are talking about the book but only reference things that only happened in the movie and not the book. Plus i just think it's overrated. I've read the book a couple times now, and it's my third favorite Stephen King book, but I enjoyed the film more; it's my 6th favorite horror film. I respect your opinion because my friend is exactly like you. I got him into Stephen King, and he liked the book a lot more than the movie.

I'm not super fan of the film The Shining either. I thought it was OK. Relatively speaking, good for a horror film. Also wasn't a big fan of Little China either. I my opinion, the gravitas of Kubrick tends to 'overrate' Shining a bit.
