Just came across this interview where Rob talks about his upcoming movie, 31. Just a heads up, I found the format of the interview to be a bit unnecessary and irritating but nevertheless I'm still interested in this movie. Rob isn't perfect but aside from El Superbeasto I still find a lot to like in his movies as a horror fan. What are your thoughts? Looking forward to it? What do you expect the end product will look like?

This is the same video from his crowdfunding site.

I'll probably see it. The only movies he's done that I've completely avoided were the Halloween remakes. I'm not a huge fan, but I have found his past flicks to be entertaining.
It's funny, to me, how he keeps insisting that this is an "original" idea and an "original" movie, when the "Most Dangerous Game" idea has been done a bazillion times. This one, in particular, sounds the most like "Slashers", which actually wasn't too terrible.

Ah, I didn't know about his crowd funding. This was the first I'd heard of it so I guess I'm a bit out of the loop haha. I actually liked his first Halloween remake but the second one isn't good. And ya it's far from an original idea.

I have some doubts after The Lords Of Salem but I like Devil's Rejects and the first Halloween remake so I'll probably give it a go.
His scripts might not always be that good but the man knows how to make a movie.

Stylistically, Lords was a step in the right direction for Rob. Now, combine that style with the mayhem of TDR, and you just might have something. Everything I've seen so far about 31 reminds me of The Insane Clown Posse for some reason (from a music video perhaps), so that doesn't bode well for me liking this movie. ::EEK!::

Lords of Salem was definitely great in terms of style, BUT the story didn't follow through as well for me. I loved House of 1000 Corpses and the Devil's Rejects and the first Halloween movie. I'm excited about 31. If you get a chance check out the crowd funding prizes, they are amazing.

I will watch it even though I despise Lords of Salem. I hope it's along the lines of House of 1,000 Corpses.

After watching the remake of Halloween, and seeing that Halloween 2 sucked, and Lords of Salem sucked too. I can't watch any more Rob Zombie movies. He needs to stick to music. I love his music, but his movies are another story altogether.

Some new info on the movie from a new Rob Zombie interview.
I'm still not sure what to expect but I think it could be good.

Your past films have been pretty brutal and gritty. Is that the approach you’re going for with 31? How would you describe it?

I would say, out of all my films, this is going to be the most brutal. It’s pretty intense, it’s pretty humorless, and it’s pretty all-out.

Okay. Well is there anything you can tell us about 31 that you haven’t teased yet?

I don’t know if I’ve said this yet…but I love the look and feel of The Devil’s Rejects. For me, that’s the type of filmmaking that I really love. With Lords of Salem, I wanted to do something different, that was appropriate to the story. But this is more (in The Devil’s Rejects) vein and the movie is set in 1976, so it’s a full-on, nasty ‘70s movie.

Do you think you could see 31 becoming a franchise?

The set-up of the story definitely could be told over and over and over. I don’t want to give too much away but, I don’t know if I would even be interested in making it a franchise. I’m always moving on to the next idea, you know? But it definitely has the potential to be one. Who knows?

love RZ love love, but was pretty disappointed with his remake of Halloween 2 and Lords of Salem.....this sounds promising though. Whatever happened to him making Tyrannosaurus Rex?

Not a fan of Rob Zombie... saw House of 1000 Corpses and the Halloween remake, and they were horrible.

I really love Rob Zombie, both musically as for movies. House of 1000 Corpses should be one of my most favorite movies because of its Charles Manson-feel and I love that. And the soundtrack is phenomenal. Also love the Devil's Rejects and the Lords of Salem. About the Halloween movies, well they surely don't match the Original, but hey, they are at least better than Halloween 3. ^^

I also liked the cartoon The Haunted World of El Superbeasto, had a pervers kind of humour, like the cartoon series Drawn Together, I like that.

So well, to sum up I am actually pretty pumped for this movie, the artwork and what is known so far about this movie seems very promising. But we'll see...

I didn't like House of 1000 Corpses mostly because it was just random torture to me. What did you like about the movie (not in a condescending way... just curious to see your thoughts ::wink::)?

Is Captain Spaulding not enough reason to like this movie? :D

No seriously, it's the kind of movie where I prefer the bad guys than the good guys. I never hoped or wanted that the protagonists of the movie make it until the end. I was more attracted to the bad side here. It's like if the family are the protagonists here, and I like that approach, as it really works here. As I said, as this movie has a feeling of Helter Skelter, and as Rob Zombie has a fascination for the Manson cases, I personally get the same kind of fascination for the happenings in this house around Dr. Satan and so on. I don't know...it's hard to describe xD

Oh, I loved Captain Spaulding. He just needs his own television show ::big grin::

I just didn't like how random it was, and how it didn't really have a plot.

Devil's Rejects is his best one. Really worth watching.
It's a sequel to House Of 1000 Corpses but way better than the original.
No psychedelic or abstract stuff. Just cool horror/action.

and in my humble opinion has one of the best climax`s to a movie ever, perfect blending of music and motion.

I agree!! It was hard to not like the entire family, they each had something unique about them. It was like watching a twisted spin of The Munsters....LOL!! I liked the 70's atmosphere a lot!! Yes, it is hard to describe!! I think it's because there was so much going on and there were a lot of references (like Alice in Wonderland). I loved the fascination of Dr. Satan and his background story.

Yes, to the Captain Spaulding tv show but wtf to the no plot comment??!! It has a plot and it's understandable.

I felt that the sequel to House of 1000 Corpses should have had more emphasis on Dr. Satan. There were things that I liked and didn't like about The Devil's Rejects. Why do you feel it was his best one?

I agree completely! That was probably the only thing that I truly enjoyed about the movie.

What's wrong with the last scene of the Wicker Man? You know I'm talking about the original, right??

And what semblance of a plot (besides dumbass teenagers looking for this "Dr. Satan" that randomly showed up at the end) was there in House of 1000 Corpses?

Yes, I know you're talking about the original. I am not a fan of either versions of the Wicker Man.

It was more than just a group of teenagers looking for Dr. Satan. Maybe you should give it a second look and catch the references?? It really is a fun movie, especially with the music and 70's atmosphere. This is just MHO.

I'm not giving that piece of crap a second look... it was boring, and if a movie has to have references to be good, then I'll just be lost and not like it.

I liked the first one. it's in the same category as the other new remakes. They try to make the audience have sympathy for the killers. I liked that. I didn't like part 2 because there were too many dream sequences and the whole white horse thing was corny. It was just an excuse to put his wife in the film(something he should stop doing).

Im really looking forward to this film but I have reservations since I did not like his last film at all. I hope there is a place for Sid Haig, Bill Mostley, and Ken Foree in 31. Im also sure Sheri Moons ass will be displayed as well.

If I had to rank his films I'd go

1. House of 1000 Corpses 8/10
2. The Devils Rejects 7.5/10
3. Halloween 6/10
4. Halloween 2 2/10
5. The Haunted World of El Superbeasto 2/10
6. The Lords of Salem 1/10

I watched only two Halloween movies among all his films. The first part was great, in my opinion even better than previous films of the series. But the sequel was...meh. So I don't even know what to think. Probably I'll check it out but won't hold any high hopes for this one.

My brother after seeing the trailer said 'I hope it is more scary than Sheri'. I ask why can't it be Scary AND Sheri? I tend to love Rob's films so really looking forward to this. Not sure about the marketing though as I am seeing a lot of 'killer clown' trope type messages but did not get that from the trailer. Yes, there are people in face paint but they did not look like clowns (ok, maybe one of them)

As much as I like Rob, I have to agree on the Halloween movies. I get that he is a big fan but really, should have just left well enough alone. Remake/reboots are pointless and useless. If you want people to love Halloween then make then watch Halloween - ala Clockwork Orange ::embarrassment:: Seriously, 31 looks like a return to his gritty, grimy flicks and I couldn't be happier!
