What kind of Horror films does she like?

Depends on the girl for sure. I know some girls who like, or are indifferent, to horror film gore and cruelty (which you might not expect, since you're asking this question), and then there are some girls who would hate it so much, they would forever look at you like you were some sort of deviant. Women like surprises, and for you to decide things, but in my experience this isn't one of those wise surprises to make.

It's best to ask them if they like Horror movies, and if so, what kind. You can still pick the film.

There's lots of women in our HDC group here who can recommend some films they like, though haven't noticed a big difference between sexes.

Good post. Save the surprises for after the film. ::love::

Did any of you watch the video?

I like Mormo's reasoning that it's probably better to pick a supernatural flick over a slasher...

But of course not. He asked a question.

Why the hell would you ask a question if you have the answer already? That's just a waste of everybody's time. Most of all mine. ::cool::

Sculpt, this is a great point! One time I took a date to the video store (when my town still had one) and told her to pick out a movie. She picked out a super low budget horror/exploitation movie I think just to make me happy. We started watching it and it showed a guy shooting up and she said she couldn't watch stuff like that because she used to shoot up and it triggered her. So after that I knew no drug use in any movie we watched.

Great answers everyone, thanks so much!!

No, I didn't watch the vid, I totally spaced on it, and I feel like an idiot that I didn't. Thank you for pointing that out, Nev. Good vid, Mormo, by the way. Love the red and blue lighting! (or is that just the monitor? the other light seems red.)

I agree with you, I think a paranormal or vampire is a better choice than slasher or "Hostel-esque" pick. But again, always good to ask the girl what she likes.

Sculpt, the lighting is a Halloween Frankenstein decoration that has red, blue and green bulbs. I tried to take a pic of it but it didn't come out.

Thanks for the compliment!!

I refer to these movies as "Halloween movies": movies that you can watch with a bunch of friends (in this case, a girl), and it would be a lot of fun.

The Ring, Halloween, The Thing, V/H/S, The Purge, Sinister, and Grave Encounters are ones that I can think of off the top of my head.

From my experience the average female prefers horror with a lot of jump scares, not too much blood/gore.

Some like vampire/gothic stuff.
These are often the same women who don't shy away from Twilight books/movies.

Then there are a few who like almost everything.

On a first date, bring a chic over to your house, tell her this movie explains who you are, play The Thing 1982, and stare at her for the last half of the film. While the credits roll, tell her you had to do the same thing the alien did. Chics love it.

OR

Just date a girl who loves horror.

::roll eyes::

Even horror lovers have different tastes within the horror sub-genres - Gender (or assumed/inferred gender) doesn't necessarily have anything to do with it.

BUT

I'm guessing that the assumption implicit in this question is -

Girls don't like horror

You know, probably because the "average girl" is too busy making babies, cooking dinner, or washing dishes barefoot in the kitchen...

Right?

So the question should probably be...

What's a good horror movie to watch with someone who doesn't typically watch horror movies/doesn't like horror movies?

OR

What I believe the TRUE intention here is...

What's a good horror movie to watch with someone whom I'm trying to lay?

What's a good horror movie to watch to get someone SCARED and cuddle up with me???

I love to watch my date get SCARED at the drive-in - What should I take him/her to?

Good God.

THIS:

It's best to ask them if they like Horror movies, and if so, what kind. You can still pick the film.

the only reason to watch ANY movie with a girl is so she can fetch you a beer....and maybe rub your feet a bit.

There's this movie called Ted Bundy.
It's about a guy looking for love.
Perfect for watching with a lady.

Or how about this one?

Creating a nice romantic atmosphere can also be helpful.
Some dark red light, couple of black candles, angry looking mounted animals,...

Show her you're a working man, a handy man, a man's man.
Have some tools lying around. A shovel, a hammer, a saw,...
Maybe a pair of dirty working boots too.

Definitely black candles, and to make her feel at home have pictures of her friends and relatives lying around.

Only if the pictures are secretly taken.
Shows her your adventurous.
Take some from behind a bush and make sure there are some leaves in the shot.
Shows her your outdoorsy and like nature.

If you don't have time for taking pictures, look for a picture on the internet of a girl that looks a bit like her, same age, same hair colour,...
Put it in a frame and in sight. When she asks who it is, tell her you don't know and wink. Because women like men who are mysterious.

Here are some suggestions!

-The Conjuring (personally, the scariest movie I've ever seen)

-Sinister (though the jump scares are few, it's a genuinely terrifying and disturbing movie)

-1408 (not too scary, but a lot of fun)

-Se7en (a slow-burner movie that isn't necessarily horror, but I thought it was terrifying, and is unbelievably disturbing)

-The Orphanage (if you guys don't mind subtitles, this is one of the best ghost stories ever and has some incredibly scary parts)

-Tucker and Dale vs. Evil (this is if you want a really good horror comedy. Not scary, of course, it plays excellently on typical horror movie formulas, is stupid and hilarious, but also I actually thought it was good, too!)

I know Americans want things fast, but a drive thru movie is a little too fast. ::stick out tongue:: We call them drive-in movies: parking lot in front of a theatre screen.

True, she's "scared", so she cuddles close. There's "scared", and then there's mortified...

It's really more the chic pretends to be scared as an excuse to cuddle. Films were made for drive-in shows, like "The Giant Gila Monster" (1959). It wasn't scary, it was just "cuddle scary".

You take a lady to "The Hills Have Eyes", and the scene is graphically displaying a live human skull getting crushed, you're more likely to get a lap full of vomit than a kiss. You know what I mean?
Well framed. What sends a jolt through the modern female?

sorry was a case of my fingers typing before my brain engaged lol.

i think you want a movie with atmosphere and tension, not gore n beheadings....
the birds is a fine example, and while a little gory in places the fog, which keeps you teetering on the edge of your seat till the end, what lies beneath while not a horror relies on tension and suspense so would be another good candidate.
