To be made by Mario Kassar of Terminator, Rambo and Basic Instinct fame

Deadline reports info on the remake, which is being pulled together by producer Mario Kassar (Terminator, Rambo, Basic Instinct). The new film is reportedly based more on the original novel than the Miike film and will be set in the US.

Richard Gray (The Lookalike) scripted and will direct.

Despite a few name changes, the story details are more or less what you’d expect, as Deadline explains:

Audition‘s unlucky protagonist is Sam Davis, who lives alone with his son following the death of his wife seven years prior and is convinced by a filmmaker friend to stage the fake auditions. The former ballerina with a mysterious past he falls for is now named Evie Lawrence, but otherwise details fall closely in line with Murakami’s best-seller.

Yet another remake to satisfy the cretins who cannot either read or be bothered to read subtitles.Hope this bombs.

I never read the book. But the original movie was perfect. Maybe they can make another remake like The Ring. But with all the bad Japanese to American horror movies out, I doubt it.

Seems like a pretty bad idea, but I'll still watch it. I was actually pleasantly surprised by the Oldboy remake, although it obviously doesn't hold a candle to the original. And I think my infatuation with the Evil Dead remake is well documented around here. :)

I never need to see another American remake of an Asian vengeful ghost movie though.

I don't see why they would want to remake it. The original one was so great. Ugh, they need to stop making remakes so much. ::sad::
