is the crow considered horror or just a form of drama that involves a gothic feel? The fact that there are 3 crow movies based off comics all following the same basic story. Each one might have its own elements of scary to them but is it actually horror?
What does anyone think of the crow series anyway? i for one think it is one of the best movies that i have ever seen.

The first one.
2nd one sucked although I thought he looked more the part, but hey, bitch couldn't act for shit, and yeah, it sucked.
The series starting with "stairway to heaven", all I have to say is -WHY?!?
I have to admit that the 3rd one (salvation) exceeded my expectations somewhat, but then again, that may just be because the second one lowered them so much.
Is there still a rumour floating around that a 4th film is going to be made about...a dead rapper? I wonder if he'll bust freestyles while shooting ppl gangsta style? - right...or was it edward furlong?
IMO the comics (the ones I've read) whipped the shit outta ALL the movies.
A film adaptation of Wild Justice would have to be interesting, but If any future films were ever again based on the comics (well, it worked for the first one!) , I'd wanna see waking nightmares - a personal favourite.
Never read the one about the female crow, or the nutcase "sidekick" chick either...
See.. they wasted a tv series on a character that had no reason after the first movie to have a series based around them...yeah,
yeah, I know it was a reworking of sorts, but Id rather see an ongoing series based on ALL the other comics if anything...even if it only ran for a year or two, if they did it right, it'd have to be better than the last tv series...
Freddy Krueger.

I've only seen the first one. It was a good movie.

The first one is one of my favorite movies...the second was...all right. JUST all right. I've never seen the third though I doubt I'm missing anything. Maybe the sequals would have been better in Brandon Lee hadn't died in the making of the first T-T I loved that man.

Goths seem to like it ... I think it's prob as much horror as say Underworld so it is action horror!
... It really is rubbish though and the sequels just get worse!!!!!!

i would not call it horror - but i loved it - not sure if this was because of the story behind it with the death of Brandon Lee and i was always looking for the computer generated bits or not - still, it's a movie i can watch again and again

Love this film. I read the comic waaaaaaaay back in it's first run at Caliber Comics (who never finished it, the full story was printed almost a decade later). The film was everything I'd hoped for.
I also loved Alex Proyas' Dark City. I'm interested to see his new film I, Robot, but I don't think it'll be as good.

"The Crow" (the movie) is like an action interpretation of a "vengeful ghost" story. For an action film, I would say it's very vividly horrific a lot of the time.
crippler666
09-25-2006, 08:13 AM
All The Crow movies are based around different graphic novels
As far as I am aware there are around 15 or 20 different series of novels
I liked all 4 movies, the first is still the best, but I would like to see it remade as violent as it should have been
But I do have a question, if you count The Crow as a gothic love story (which it is), and it not being made as a mainstream movie, would it have had the following it did without the death of Brandon Lee?
crabapple
09-25-2006, 08:25 AM
Hard to say. But the movie they made, I think, is pretty shocking and dark in its own right. It might well have grabbed my attention.
I remember speaking to a makeup effects artist who had just come back from working on the film, and he was profoundly shaken and upset about what had happened. The story had hit the newspapers in a fairly sensational way. Everyone wanted to talk about the accident, and he...didn't.

yes ..
by all rights it was a good movie and a showcase for the very charismatic Brandon.
I think it would have had an even bigger following had he not died.
the film would have been better and there would have been proper sequels

its a forum where people communicate with each other. if you have an opinion you feel strongly enough about that you are willing to publicy post it - why wouldnt you want to present it in a readable fashion ?
its an opportunity for you to take the written word seriously enough to improve yourself.
get pissed at me all you like but if you dont learn from this then your life has an excellent chance of being a complete mess.
communication is a powerful tool .. you want people to take you seriously - learn how to spell.

The reason The Crow should have been more violent is the story almost requires it.
If you take the first one for example:
What was done to Eric Draven & Shelley Webster was phsically mentally horrific. Her rape and torture, added to Eric stumbling in on the act, forced to watch and then dies.
So as a reanimated soul, to forever haunt this planet until he enacts his revenge, so did it seem enough? In the comic more happened, but for the movie it was tuned down.
I know it might seem quite sick to ask for more gore, but if the need is there it should be put there.
I know that for some people that is not what they want to see, but GET SOMETHING ELSE OUT. I dont say gore for gores sake, but if something offends me I have an off switch.
I like the film The Crow and it will always remain as one of my favourite films, but I just think if they had put the neccessary violence in it could have been improved.
Oh and by the way Brandon Lee would not have been in the follow ups as the only constant through out the stories is the crow (who is called Manny).

that may have been the way of the comics - but i'm pretty sure had he lived - he'd have been asked to do the sequels.
