Warner Bros. opts not to do a traditional "Man of Steel" sequel

Warner Bros. kicked Saturday at Comic-Con with a big announcement:

Batman and Superman will pair up in a new movie as the follow up to “Man of Steel.”

Zach Snyder, who helmed “Man of Steel,” is co-writing the story with David S. Goyer, who will then pen the screenplay.

Production is expected to begin in 2014, with an anticipated release date in summer 2015.

The new Batman has yet to be cast. Christian Bale has, however, said he would not return to the role. Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane are all returning.

Studio and the director made the announcement of the the Superman and Batman match-up to 6,000 people inside Hall H at the San Diego Convention Center, at the end of its panel.

During the brief presentation, Snyder revealed the film’s logo.

The studio and DC Entertainment has been considering several options for its superhero films, including a “Man of Steel” sequel for 2015, a Flash movie in 2016 and the Justice League film for 2017.

Warner Bros. has indicated that it planned to bring back Superman for a 2015 film if “Man of Steel” performed up to expectations. The film’s worldwide box office has hit $622 million since its June 14 launch. ”The Dark Knight Rises,” starring Bale, topped $1 billion in global box office last year.

The Batman-Superman movie could match the box office prowess of “Marvel’s The Avengers.” That 2012 Disney release, featuring Iron Man, Captain America, the Hulk and Thor, amassed $1.5 billion worldwide.

It would also move the Burbank studio closer to its long-planned all-star superhero pic “Justice League” — finally fully exploiting its DC Comics library beyond Batman and Superman.

“Justice League” would bring to the screen such characters as Aquaman, the Flash, Wonder Woman and another Green Lantern, whose costly 2011 predecessor flopped.

“Superman and Batman together on the big screen is a dream come true for DC fans everywhere,” said Diane Nelson, president of DC Entertainment. “All of us at DC Entertainment could not be more excited for Zack’s continuing vision for the DC Universe.”

Snyder said, “I’m so excited to begin working again with Henry Cavill in the world we created, and I can’t wait to expand the DC Universe in this next chapter. Let’s face it, it’s beyond mythological to have Superman and our new Batman facing off, since they are the greatest Super Heroes in the world.”

The new film brings back Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder as producers. This time, Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas are serving as executive producers, along with Benjamin Melniker and Michael E. Uslan.

I have always struggled with this partnership.I mean,Superman can do anything,he is Superman.Whereas Batman is human, and very limited in what he can do.

I just dont see how the two can be joined in one movie.

Batman has all his toys but Superman can simply fly away,or move a mountain with his bare hands,or laser the moon in half with his mighty gaze.

Or am i missing something here?

I know they've got to come up with something new but I just can't get my head around this. They're two very different stories and characters and I fear they're just merging them because it's going to generate a lot of cash. Well, actually I KNOW that's why they're doing it.

Well there's a whole bunch of different D.C. story lines where Supes & Bats work together (and against each other). Didn't really think it would work as well as say, Marvel studios doing The Avengers (where as those story lines are alot lighter than the Nolan produced/directed D.C. films). WB was gonna re-boot the batman franchise anyway in 2015 with Nolan producing and Goyer writing with a new actor & director. Not sure if this project is that, or if they are going to do both. However, the organic world that Nolan has created with the D.C. characters are way more interesting to me than The Marvel films.

I'm a bit confused as to why this thread or any threads about superheroes (i.e. Man of Steel, Batman and Superman teaming up, Upcoming Avengers...) are on this site. Superheroes are not classified as horror. And this forum is "Upcoming HORROR Movies" NOT "Upcoming Movies" I will probably end up seeing each of those because I love batman and Marvel Comics are my favorite so I will definitely see the new Avengers but this is not the forum to be posting about such things.

Ben Affleck could play Batman across numerous films and may still direct Justice League

Ben Affleck's casting as Batman in Man Of Steel 2 was easily the biggest news of last week, and the doubters had better get used to the idea of seeing Affleck as the Dark Knight for a while.

According to an official press release, Affleck's Batman is going to be “a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter”.

Director Zack Snyder explained the casting in the press release, stating: “Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman."

Snyder added: "He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal [and] retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can’t wait to work with him.”

Heat Vision reports that Affleck has actually signed a contract to play Bruce Wayne across numerous films, with Man Of Steel 2 only the beginning.

The website's sources state that Affleck "has been signed for multiple movies" in the event that further sequels are greenlit. Those sources add that other movies could include another standalone Batman and an appearance in Justice League.

Talking of which, Heat Vision notes that Affleck's deal could see him finally accepting a directing gig on Justice League - a job he apparently turned down earlier this year.

Shooting on Man Of Steel 2 is expected to kick off in February 2014 and wrap in August 2014.

Man Of Steel 2 opens 17 July 2015.

I've been a Batman fan for close to 50 years, and , for the moment, I don't see any major problems with this. Whe I finally see some actual footage from the movie then I'll make my judgment. Until then, lets hope for the best.

Coopers too happy and Goslings too bland. I don't think Afflecks the best choice but I'm sure he'll be better then George Clooney and Val Kilmer. The movies gonna suck anyway just like the first.

Affleck's Batman will be 'tired, weary and seasoned' says WB Exec
CEO Kevin Tsujihara calls Affleck 'perfect for the vision' of the film

Not everybody is happy with Ben Affleck playing DC Comics icon Batman in 2015's "Man of Steel" sequel, but the actor/director has a very important fan: Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara, who was quoted by The Hollywood Reporter as saying, "Ben is perfect for the vision [director Zack Snyder] has for that character."

Speaking at a investors conference on Thursday, Tsujihara acknowledged the vocally negative reaction following the initial announcement last month, reportedly saying, "The fact that you saw such a passionate response in the blogosphere is really kind of a testament to the love that people have for this character."

Tsujihara also gave some early insight into the film, with Deadline quoting the executive as saying Affleck's Batman will be "kind of tired and weary and seasoned and been doing it for a while."

More DC-related announcements are coming, according to Tsujihara. "DC really does touch a lot of parts of our business and is an important part of the strategy in how we're going to grow going forward," he's quoted in THR's report.

The "Man of Steel" sequel will be the first live-action film to pair both Superman and Batman, with Henry Cavill reprising his "Man of Steel" lead role.

Directed by Zack Snyder and written by David S. Goyer, the film is scheduled for release on July 17, 2015.

Ditto; that's the thing. I've seen MAN OF STEEL in the theater, though Henry Cavill is at least did way better than Brandon Routh but quite disappointed with Snyder's treatment as he just made it an one big pile of a shitty chaos at the 2nd half.

I would rather love to see Michael Fassbender as the cape crusader.

Affleck is a decent actor who is good enough to play certain types of roles but not an action hero! In his most of the films, we see him with a common expression like someone just slapped him hard & he's about to cry. He's an actor who is better suited to play a role of a romantic hero or a brokenhearted young man who is frustrated about life or just got dumped by his gf or gay partner. I tried to think of him as Bruce Wayne as well Batsy but as a BatFan my imagination becomes an irritation for me at the end. Still, as Batman & Superman is going to face off on the big screen for the very first time, I really want to hope Snyder will somehow successfully do this incredible job of making Affleck an acceptable Bruce Wyane & Batman. I guess, they just took "Anyone can be Batman" joke too seriously. Fans are suffering for a result of some poor Hollywoody-studio driven game of power, fame & politics.
Still this whole casting thing would only become sensible if they're planning to make the 1st Gay-Superhero movie where Batman & Superman would fall for each other at some point in the movie! :D

Gal Gadot Cast as Wonder Woman in Batman vs. Superman!

Warner Bros. has announced this morning that Gal Gadot, most well known for appearing in the "Fast & Furious" films, has landed the role of Wonder Woman/Diana Prince in Zack Snyder's upcoming Batman vs. Superman film.

http://img.jspace.com/gal-gadot-on-fast-furious-6-f-104968.jpg

In a statement, Zack Snyder stated: "Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character."

Batman vs. Superman will feature the return of Henry Cavill as Superman, facing off against Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman. Also starring Amy Adams, Diane Lane and Laurence Fishburne, the Zack Snyder-directed Batman vs. Superman hits theaters on July 17, 2015.

Gal Gadot breaks silence on criticism over Wonder Woman casting
Actress responds to fans who say she's not fit enough for the Amazon warrior

Weeks after the announcement of her casting, actress Gal Gadot has finally opened up about her upcoming turn as Wonder Woman in Zack Snyder’s untitled "Man of Steel" sequel.

In an interview with Israeli entertainment show "Good Evening with Gai Pines", Gadot said she represents “the Wonder Woman of the new world” — a direct response to fan criticism that she’s not fit enough, and not large-chested enough, to play the DC Comics icon.

“Breasts … anyone can buy for 9,000 shekels and everything is fine,” she joked, adding, “Wonder Woman is Amazonian, and historically accurate Amazonian women actually had only one breast. So, if I’d really go ‘by the book’ … it’d be problematic.”

Gadot said she’s currently training for the role, with her preparations including learning “Kung Fu, kickboxing, swords, jujutsu, [and] Brazilian” martial arts. “I’ll gain body mass,” she promised.

The new Wonder Woman debuts in the "Man of Steel" sequel on July 17, 2015.

Superman-Batman movie pushed to 2016

Warner Bros. announced on Friday its decision to move the release of Zack Snyder’s untitled Batman-Superman movie to May 6, 2016.

The studio said their move allows “the filmmakers time to realize fully their vision, given the complex visual nature of the story.” This follows word that the production starring Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck had been pushed to begin in the second quarter of 2014 rather than its originally planned winter start date.

Dan Fellman, Warner Bros. President of Domestic Distribution, went on to say “We know that there is already great anticipation building for the next Super Hero film from Zack Snyder, and we are equally eager to see what he has in store for Superman and Batman as they share the big screen for the first time ever.”

Warners is still casting the film including the main villain role which sources tell Variety is still in Joaquin Phoenix’s court. It will also reunite “Man of Steel” stars Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane, and also stars Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman/Diana Prince.

The screenplay will be written by David S. Goyer, from a story co-created by Goyer and Snyder.

Hans Zimmer will be in charge of the soundtrack.

Zimmer then went on to admit that he’s anxious about finding a new take on the Dark Knight for Ben Affleck’s Batman, which will distinguish it from his work on Nolan’s Bat-films: “That’s my problem, that’s my dilemma. I don’t want to betray, if that’s the right word, the Dark Knight movies. That was Christian Bale, it was Christian’s role. It’s not just that it was nine years of our lives, so you want to stay honest and honourable to that period. So it’s really about, ‘Is there something else I can find that I haven’t tapped into?’ Which I don’t know until I sit down with Zack.”

Absolutely love it, although if they are going for Dark Knight Returns era Batman...well, I'll be interested to see if I believe Affleck's age for it. I've been quite supportive of Affleck since the announcement, but I'm now wondering if they should have gone older.

I think it won't be entirely based on Miller's Dark Knight Returns. Probably Snyder & his team going to take some idea or elements from it. I'm guessing at first half there would the Batman-Superman thing...the introduction & their rivalry & friendship with Lex Luthor & some other villain's agenda. Then from the 2nd half, they may introduce Wonder Woman, Cyborg & some other JL heroes against a great threat(?!). Overall, I guess it'll be more of a JLA: The Beginning sort of flick.

Warner Bros. has given a title to its “Batman v. Superman” movie, “Dawn of Justice,” which can mean only one thing: it will lead into “The Justice League.”

Written by “Argo” scribe Chris Terrio, “Dawn of Justice” has entered production and will shoot on location in Detroit, Illinois, Africa and the South Pacific.

Warner Bros. still plans to release the film May 6, 2016.

Jason Momoa will play Aquaman in 'Dawn Of Justice'

While Warner Bros. hasn't made that announcement officially yet, HitFix can confirm that he will be playing the part, and that Zack Snyder has already finalized his designs for the character so shooting can take place soon.

One of the things that has driven me crazy since the release of "Man Of Steel" is when people say that the last act of the film is a problem since there's no consequences for Superman after all of the destruction that results from his battle with Zod. I felt like it was pretty clear walking out of the theater that the next film would have to be all about consequences. I suspected that Lex Luthor would use the destruction as a way of making Superman look like a monster, and it sounds like that is indeed one of the major ideas that they're playing with in "Dawn Of Justice."

Someone else who's not particularly happy about what happened in that film is Aquaman. I'm not sure if that's the actual name they'll use or not, but what we're hearing is that he is not pleased about the World Engine and what it did to the Indian Ocean. He will not have a major role in the film, but he will make an appearance, and it definitely sets him up to return once Snyder gets to "Justice League."

"Batman Vs Superman: Dawn Of Justice" arrives in theaters May 6, 2016.

Considering the line of fails DC has been pumping out in movies, I'm not really looking forward to this one. I saw the trailer recently and was as unimpressed as I knew I would be (although Batman's snarky line about seeing if Superman bleeds did make me fangirl just a taaaaad).

Two things about this really bug me though.

1: I hate the logo. Just. Why did you revert the Batman logo just so Superman's would still look pretty... They could've done better.

2: WHY DOES BATMAN STILL DRIVE A TANK.
