Luka Magnotta gained infamy in Canada when human flesh was mailed to certain government and school officials. It seems Mr Magnotta butchered an aquaintence then dismembered the corpse which he later subjected to necrophelia while it was still warm. It's a horrible case made worse due to the tape of the crime being posted online. It seems Magnotta may not have just sent out dismembered body parts but may have made the video public to those with interests similar to his own. It was widely seen on a site called Best Gore which caters to fetishists of mutilation and death as well as those with a stomach for such graphic material. My understanding is that the owner of the site (Mark Marek) was living in Canada at the time he recieved the emailed snuff film then posted the rape/murder although he has no fixed residence within the country and he has since been charged with a number of offeses linked with causing public obcenity. Authorities have made it clear the video is a 'snuff film' which the proprietor of the site refused to remove for over a week. He faces as a penalty fines and possible jailtime despite having pulled the film from circulation on his site. Unfortunately, it's been downloaded and shared and will be nearly impossible to irradicate. I'm curious to know what penalty, if any, you think this man should face for posting a video of the murder, dismemberment of a man who was also raped and cannibalized? In his own defense the owner of Best Gore claims his site is not a death fetish site but provides a public service and information only. He says the site exists to expose 'evil doers'.. He also states that the gay sex killer was known to his members (although presumably they were not into snuff films like their online aquaintence Magnotta who presumably did not email the killing for their benefit) and they proved helpful in identifying the killer. Mark Merek has been re-arrested after posting bail earlier this month. Marek has stated he's being 'framed' by police although he was arrwested in Edmonton last night for jumping bail. Few people are given jailtime for the crime Mr Marek is accused of committing but given the horrendous nature of the video he knowingly posted a fine is likely. Jumping bail however could get him a harsher sentence.
