3D Technology discussion and survey

Hey Horror.com message board users,

I am a master’s student currently studying my MSc International Management; I am doing my dissertation on 3D technology and its impact on the motion picture industry. I have created a short online survey, which you can find here;

I am conducting this survey in order to gain the opinions of the mass audience and thought the best place for a high response from a variety of different people will be on Horror.com website. Details of my research are in the link to my survey.

I'd also be really interested on your thoughts on whether 3D films have a long-term future so please post your thoughts below!

I took the survey. I think that the technology has a future, but it needs to solve certain problems. First, many people do not like the glasses. Second, I have heard of many people, myself included, that it gives them headaches. It may not be possible to solve these problems, but these are major obstacles. Even with these obstacles, I still believe the technology has a future.

Would you say from a horror film's fan point of view, 3D Horror films would not excite you as much or increase your entertainment?

Didn't they try this with Friday the 13th Part III. Nothing to see here, this FAD will pass.

3D movies are great if they're done well, but the movie itself has to be great too. It's just not so cool when you have to take your regular glasses off and all you can see is a blurry screen.

So if the technology advanced? there maybe more positive reactions to it?

I don't know if the technology has taken a large step backwards or if they just don't know how to use it. The "Real D 3D" that they are pushing so hard right now on most films is terrible. I have not seen a film yet where anything has "popped" out of the screen. All it does is add a fuzzy depth that isn't all that deep looking.

The old films shot with the Arrivision "over and under" 3-D camera was killer. Friday The 13th Part 3 was fantastic in 3D. There is so much depth in that film it puts all these new ones to shame (My Bloody Valentine 3D possibly being an exception as far as newer films go). The "gags" where things come out of the screen actually look like they are going to hit you in the face. That's what I want and expect in 3D.

With the technology today I should be able to go see a movie where there is a scene where there is a Mist or Fog, it should look like it's drifting out of the screen and literally covering everyone in the theater all around me. I want Real 3D, not some fuzzy depth.
