don't open the e-mail. If you don't know who sent it, then don't open it. If the "from" thing says it's from you, and you know you didn't send it, don't open it. If it's re: something and you didn't send anything to them, don't open it.

Ick... no.

There's no way to stop that except to change your email address.

And if they have a virus infected attachment, then it wasn't a person that sent it. It was from someone who got infected by a virus, and the virus in turn mails itself out to every email address it can find stored in that persons computer. Some of the better written viruses can collect email addresses from the people before it and modify itself to include those addresses when it infects the next person.

If it's just spam, then yes, someone is sending it to you on purpose. People get paid to send out spam email.

Agreed switch your email address. Make it a cool name with lots of significance. Take some of mine for [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] is you send any mail to an address with osprex.com (anything goes here).com and it comes wizzing across the information highway hell-bent on finding me. Now that is a beautiful thing.

You should go ahead and get a new email account, but if you do, don't change it on your profile at this forum....Arioch did that once and nearly had a heart attack because it was saying "May not Post"...."may not receive PMs"..."May not send PMs"....and the name "Arioch" wasn't even in the members list, anymore...This is what I heard..."OMG, I think I got banned!"...LMAO...Can you imagine, Arioch getting BANNED?!...LOL...AS IF!....Oh well, it was funny at the time, guess you had to be there...Ummm...What was this thread about?...OH YEAH...

Last Bad Move, if you decide to get a new account, try Hotmail.Com...I have 4 email accounts and my Hotmail is my favorite, plus I don't have any of the problems that you have described...Wouldn't hurt to try:)

Best idea:
1- Only open emails that are from known people or organisations you have dealings with.

2- Tell all friends or affiliates provided with your email details to type who they are, and reasons for the email in the subject bar at least for the initial email.

3- Have your email junk filter set to high, this will put every email from a "non-safe-list" or "unknown" address into the junk (or if you're lucky, a "unknown" folder) area automatically.
This way, while logged into your email, simply cruise through the junk area, delete anything thats not cleared by what I explained in 2, and add those you want to keep to the "safe" or "friends" list. Don't bother "blocking" any of the ads, as they tend to use throwaway email accounts anyway.
