View Full Version : Tell me about your best Nightmare
Now that might sound like a funny request but I used to have alot of nightmares. As a young child I had recurring nightmares and looking back they could make a really cool scene in a horror movie.
So what do you think are your best nightmares?

Chucky obv... but I always have a nightnare where something is happening. ..zombies, robbbed, abducted, heled hostage.... go to scream .. nothing comes out try to fight.. I am too weak. Lamesauce.
It's interesting how many people seem to be afraid of Chucky. I want to save up for those big Chucky and Tiff dolls.
I'm running through a misty labyrinth as fast as I can, being chased by a monster i can't see. The faster I try to run the less my legs want to move and the monster is going to catch me. I stumble and fall through the floor and into a dungeon, I'm trapped, a shadow closes in ...and i wake up.

I have a lot of "childish" nightmares, monster under the bed kind of stuff... sometimes I wake up and think, "hey, that was cool!" :D
For my entire childhood, I was haunted by nightmares about my own messed up version of triffids. For some very strange reason, if someone sang the tune "manahmanah" from the Muppets, or even said the word, people would turn into flesh-eating plant monsters. This caused me to be TERRIFIED of the song for years, and people couldn't even say the title without making me scream the little girl that I was :D So silly...
The funny thing is... sometimes, even as an adult, I'll occasionally hear "manahmanah" in my dream, and someone turns into a monster...

My mother was terrified of Chucky :D I'm not though, which is kinda weird because I actually have a bit of a phobia against dolls. You know the movie "Dead Silence"? Now THAT type of dolls gives me sleepless nights!
Haha. I have a collection of porcelain dolls which my boyfriend hates. I also had one that survived a world war and looked a bit worse for wear. I love all dolls. Ever seen "The Doll Master"?
As a child I had a Baloo (jungle book) pajama holder. I once dreamt that he got up in the middle of the night and set my room on fire. There is something disturbing about watching your much loved stuffed toys methodically setting light to all the flammables in your room.
Luckily this was before I started sleep acting my dreams!

I don't think I have... I'm not sure though. Is it any good? You don't mean "The Puppet Master"?
Nope it's The Doll Master :-) its a japanese film. My favourite film too.

I've only recently started to write down as much I as can remember about my dreams. I haven't had a horror one in a while. The last one Jason got me. I think it was because I was watching so many Friday the 13th movies at the time. He showed up in my dreams to show me he's not a joke. I couldn't get away from the guy. I ended up driving off a bridge thinking I was safe. I was looking up from the water. I didn't see him. Next thing you know he's jumping out of the water and giving me the axe to the face. I woke up in a cold sweat. Heart racing. Yeah, I don't want that to happen again. The dream was very realistic. Night time in the woods. Moon and stars in the sky. Though I can't remember what I did wrong to set him off.

My family, when I was 3-4 years old...rolling marbles down towards me as I was trying to climb away from a crocodile infested pit beneath a slippery slide.
Visits from a panther, that would attack me in many of my dreams...eventually I made my peace with it. It kind've hung with me for more dreams before eventually fading away.
Opening a door to face a gun. Assailant says "bang", gun fires. Woke up quite unsettled.
Most nightmares these days, since my early 20's, have been largely just based on unusual/weird or uncomfortable life situations...I don't get too many outlandish nightmares.
I get annoying dreams where like I'll be in a plane and not be seatbelted, or meant to be going someplace by boat...it sinks...I am left swimming for miles.
But more often than not, it's just situations I'd rather not occur in my everyday life.
When I have a "real" nightmare these days I quite enjoy it.

I finally had a dream with Amy Steel in it (Ginny from Friday the 13th Part 2). It was kind of funny. I was relaxed and thinking this is awesome. She was kind of a mix between her Friday the 13th character and her character in that horrible April Fool's Day movie. We were talking about something. I can't remember the setting but it wasn't the woods. But maybe an old hotel or off campus school rest area or something. But I realized fairly soon that this is a dream and might be Friday the 13! I told her we should get out of here. Sadly, I woke up soon after screaming no no no because my pet jumped on me.

Part of me is thinking we should have a "Post your Horror Related Dream" thread. But I don't think we'll get that many posts.
Mine from last night. I don't remember much of this one because I wasn't sleeping well, got up and went to the bathroom, and went back to sleep. But here it is -
I was in a hotel. Kind of modern but not futuristic or anything. But it had a circular sunken living room/main area. It was cream, off white color. We were on a high floor I think. At least 25 to 50 floors I would assume. I was with two women. One blonde and another with pale/alabaster skin and dark black hair. We were just mingling. All the sudden a few guys, I think two, break in the room. Very forceful. I guess I'm guarding the lady with pale skin because I pull a gun with a silencer on it. I shoot one guy in the head but it doesn't effect him! No blood or anything. I'm thinking Terminator! Oh crap. He looks at me with anger but forcefully pushes me across the room. Meanwhile, the blonde quickly got the pale skin lady out of the room through one of the bedrooms or something. I didn't see what happened clearly. Once I was up I headed out the door looking for the two women. I saw them heading around a curved floor for the elevator. I ran that way too. The "terminators" were no where to be seen but I saw smoke from one of the side doors. Maybe the blonde took care of them somehow? As I was almost at the elevator, Angel surprised me from a side path. Yes that Angel from the TV show. My mind then started thinking "was I shooting at werewolves?" Anyway, Angel says get down the elevator shaft. "What?" I'm thinking. I look down and see the women on some kind of mechanism going down the elevator cable. Angel pushes me on the cable and I start to slide down too before I notice the two terminator/werewolf guys almost at the elevator. Angel tosses something at them and jumps down the shaft, kind of gliding down pass me as I'm sliding down towards the elevator with the two women waiting.
That's it. I think the drop woke me up. That's usually when reality sets in. I'm dropping in a dream but realize my body is stationary. Unless I'm having a very vivid dream like that Jason one. Controlling the dream isn't that much fun when you know it's a dream and can feel the bed, etc.

Interesting I think you could have beaten them if they hadn't been werewolves. I think once you realized they were supernatural entities your subconscious allowed the blonde and Angel to take them out.

Most of mine come from being chased or being pursued.
I don't remember what the nightmare was but I woke up screaming and scared everyone in the house to death.
Though I am a male, I dreamed one night I was dressed as a woman and was being chased by a group of dark figures who were chasing me for some important classified info that I had. To make matters worse I was in a long evening gown and heels which made escape exceedingly cumbersome.

I had a very strange and vivid dream last night. One of those that was so real that I wasn't in control in the dream and even lashed out physically. But I can only remember bits and pieces.
I think I was some kind of small town cop or something. Not sure. I know I came across two women. One I'm pretty sure was Gillian Anderson. But her hair wasn't red like in X-Files. More dark brownish. And she wasn't physically exactly like Gillian Anderson. Maybe with an extra 10-20 pounds. Which was really strange. Another woman was similar to Jennifer Lawrence. I'm not sure.
For some reason, they were on a road trip looking for something. I know I came across them leaving an old house in a dark, kind of swampy area and observed them killing some kind of demon with a shovel. I think it was Jennifer Lawrence. She split the demon's head in two. Then tossed the shovel in a trunk of their car. It was an older four door car. I can't remember the type. I was in character and never thought that this is strange.
I followed them over a hilly road along the coast to what must have been their house. It was night time. I don't know if I broke into the house or was let in. This is where it gets weird. I went to the fireplace in the house looking for stuff. Evidence? I don't know. I found a secret panel with three boxes. In the boxes were red combined with yellow crystals. Two were palm sized another fairly long like the length of my hand maybe 6-7 inches. But when I looked at the small crystals in the fire. I could swear they said "CHINA." I think this is one of those strange dream moments where people say you can't read or write in dreams. I put the crystals back.
Now, it gets really odd. I don't know what happened. But I came across the two women again, I don't know if they were watching me of they jumped me. But somehow they got me down. I was told I had to have intercourse with the lady that looked like Jennifer Lawrence. This is when I started to realize something's wrong. Because I usually have a thing for Gillian Anderson and was thinking I don't want this to happen. Then fear actually happened. I was held down by what I believe was The Devil. I was on my back and he had his claws tearing into my shoulders. I didn't want to look at him. It was very hot in the room and dark with just the glow of the fire and The Devil's red body. I was actually scared. Reluctantly, I let things happen but in the last moments I lashed out. I remember punching at The Devil. I did this in the dream and physically from my bed. This was also when I woke up.

Ooo. Great topic. I love sharing/discussing dreams... And wow, Immortalslasher - It's incredible that you can remember your dreams in such detail.
In terms of nightmares involving boogeymen, I haven't dreamed of a Mike Myers/Jason/Freddy explicitly but I have definitely been chased by a random psycho in a maze before, which is horrifying... I DID, however, have an incredibly vivid and horrifying dream about Pennywise when I saw It for the first time (sadly, I was a senior in high school but the movie scared the crap out of me and the dream was utterly terrifying).
My nightmares now typically boil down to the classic school anxiety dream - Like I'll be in high school sometime between periods, have no idea what class I have next and then by the time I get there I realize that I haven't been to class in the last 6 months and of course there's a major paper/project due... But then I realize, "Wait. I graduated high school years ago. In fact, I have my B.A. and am currently getting my Masters - I should really talk to the principal about this to clear it up." Pretty lame but stressful nonetheless.
Also - Last night - Had an explicit sex dream about Jon Hamm/Don Draper - and the rumors are true... heh :o

I used to play World of Warcraft with my BF, and I played it so much that it seeped into my dreams to make some of the best dream experiences I've ever had.
In my dreams, I turned into the my WoW character and went around in first person view. It was so fun but scary at the same time because monsters attack you, and when I get killed by a monster, it doesn't hurt, but you get a weird dreading sort of sensation.
They were almost like lucid dreams, I could sometimes control the character of my dream :)

Had another great dream last night. I was standing on my back porch at night and an alien ship was hovering over me with awesome ET-like lights. Stairwell descends and I run up the ramp to see the aliens inside. Turns out it's not aliens but Fred Krueger, Jason Vorhees, Lee Widener (!) and Gene Simmons. We all zip off across land and oceans to a crowd of millions and we play an epic heavy metal set till I woke up.

I always had good ones when I was young. Only recently have I started to try to remember details and note stuff down. Usually a while afterwards so I don't forget. That's probably from the influence of Inception. The line from one of the characters when they talk about how seamless the dreamworld is. I just like to get down the worlds and people that I'm seeing. Especially if they are completely new or at least I don't remember them in the real world.

Do any of you guys ever get realistic dreams that take place in the room that your sleeping in?
My worst nightmare was one of these when I was on a trip to Japan, I slept in a traditional Japanese home with sliding doors and tatami mats. My dream was that during my sleep, the sliding doors suddenly blew out revealed a large backyard of grass and forest. From the forest, all of the typical Japanese ghosts (long black hair, white dress, scary face - notably the Grudge Girl and the Ring Girl) ran into my room and put there face right up to mine.
I could not run nor move as I was paralyzed.
Funny thing is that when I finally woke up, I turned around, and my friends face was there (he was sleeping next to me) and I freaked out! LOL
It was so vivid and felt so real, it was scary as hell.

I had another a few days ago. It was a multiple dream. Which people supposedly have a lot but have a really hard time remembering.
The First Dream (which I barely remember):
I was in an indoor mall. I remember perhaps hitting on a pretty blonde girl with long hair and suggesting eating gumbo. Then for some strange reason getting in an argument with the cook over the gumbo. I think this comes from my enjoyment of that one Chef Ramsay episode when he goes to New Orleans and gets into it with the cook.
The Second Dream:
I remember this one a bit more. I noted it as an "Attack on the Dorm." I remember sleeping and waking up to red pulsing/strobe type dot lights. These were flashing in the distance from the ocean. I think some stuff was exploding. Then when I looked more, they became 3D coming towards me. This was kind of cool and scary because I don't think I've ever had a 3D like attack dream before. I think it was some kind of hidden attack since it was night and everyone was supposed to be sleeping. When the lights realized that I was awake, some of the lights formed a large red skull and came towards my window.
I ran and escaped from another side window. I was on a high floor, at least 10 to 15. And I remember falling from balcony to balcony. Catching the rails. I remember looking for other awake people but everyone was asleep. I think I had a girlfriend and looked at her but she was asleep too.
Soon after falling down a few balconies, I realized that I could fly! This is really rare in my dreams. However, the bad guys realized this too and I soon saw them. They were I think aquatic animals like fish. I remember one that was chasing me could talk.
Somehow I got to a lab. It was kind of modern with a lot of blue lights and glass everywhere with high ceilings. I remember my thought process as maybe I could do something like Gremlins. So somehow I shot the fish with an ice laser. Yes it doesn't make any sense. The fish looked like it exploded. Turns out that it transported behind a glass wall/window and was gigantic! And it's eye was bleeding.
I don't know what happened after this because I only remember a day after the "attack." Somehow the fish shrank to gold fish size. I remember not trusting the people that had the fish. They wanted to take it to an ocean study area. I watched the boss take the fish across the same mall area from my first dream. He could actually hover/fly but was slow. Stopping for a while after a few feet. I caught up to him and told him it required more concentration. Maybe I was telling this to myself so I could fly more in my dreams?
I took the fish and the boss told two other people to open the area. When I arrived, I heard a noise from a wooden door. One of the guys went to open the door. Before he could open it all the way, a large oily tentacle grabbed him and something bit his head off. I stumbled back and scared to death woke up.
This is all the details I could jot down as I heard my pet crying when I woke up.

I have a quick one / need some help possibly finding something from my dream.
This dream was kind of small / short. Or I don't remember more. What I do remember is that I was playing a horror pinball game with a girl. I kept joking about her name. She was a horror fan and I think we were at a horror convention. She had signed photos of horror actors. They were resting on the pinball game. Anyway, the horror pinball game. This had some of the major horror bad guys on it. Jason, Freddy, Myers, Pinhead, etc. It had dark orange and blood red colors on the game. The metal casing was black. I remember watching the girl shoot the pinball at areas with the villains. The gutter / trap area had machetes and other sharp weapons illustrated in. That's it.
Now, is there any horror pinball game like this in real life?

Great topic
For me, I occasionally have a 'nightmare' where I am being chased by some kind of evil thing(s). Monsters, aliens, zombies, etc, but it is all about the thrill of evasion and stealth. They are quite vivid, crawling around drains or pipes, sneaking around, trying to find out where pursuer is before they find me and trying to outwit them. I love those dreams and sometimes wake up with heart pounding. If holodecks ever become real, that kind of scenario is the first I will pull up.

Had a sort of realistic nightmare last night - Dreamed that I had a baby and the thing was literally the ugliest creature I had ever seen, the father wanted nothing to do with it (can't remember if the father was my fiance or a high school boyfriend; time was acting strange)... So as friends and family were crooning over it, all I could think of was it dying of S.I.D.S. or wishing that I had had an abortion -
It's hard to explain the feeling of utter disgust with yourself coupled with feeling totally and completely alone with this creature that you absolutely disdain. It was truly unsettling and depressing.
...
Good news is that it pretty much crystallized the fact that I have no desire to have kids (a topic that keeps resurfacing since I'm getting married in November and people loooove asking, "Sooo - What's next?" as though just sitting back and enjoying being married wasn't enough!). Nothing against them - I actually like kids and for the most part like my friends' kids... But I have no desire to have a larval spawn of my own. Also, I do truly believe in the Bad Seed, so there's the chance of this Thing being ill or evil or awful... I think I'll adopt a dog instead.

From things I've heard you say before, this is obviously a manifestation of your fears over having children. I've said before that you shouldnt let fear stop you from having such a wonderful, if not the most amazing thing in the world. I seriously doubt you'll have a mutant baby that you'd want to kill.
At the very least you'd have a mutant baby that you would grow a warped connection with and try and protect it and end up killing people to feed to it.
But you know....nothing to be afraid of. :D

OMG - That quote seriously made my morning. <3 :D
I don't think that at this point I'm necessarily afraid anymore; I think that we've come to the conclusion that we just don't want to have kids. It's just top of mind because, as the wedding comes up around acquaintances (mostly at work; people who don't know me very well), I get the question a lot: "Are you planning on having kids?" and people get awkward when I answer, "No." They just don't seem to get it, especially since I do love kids so much. It's just odd to me to feel this social pressure around it. When I was younger I did want to have kids, a BUNCH of them (heh - seriously - I wanted at least 4), so having to justify to people that I don't want them now... Is just unexpected and weird.
Luckily I have close friends who have fantastic youngins that I can spoil rotten.

That's so refreshing to hear; seriously!
If anything, in the future I might be a foster parent because I truly believe that there are a lot of children out there that need a safe, loving home, even if it's temporary... But that's a long way off.

In all seriousness Sculpt is right. Kids aren't for everyone. There are a lot of people out there with kids who shouldn't have them. That's not to say youd be a bad parent, I'm sure you'd be a great Mom. Don't let anyone make you feel bad for your decision though. There's nothing wrong with it.

Awful nightmare last night.
In the dream I was driving to go see a horror movie, "The Conjuring," when suddenly the need to take a shit hit me in a real bad way.
There was no place around to go but was able to WILL in my dream a McD's, so I pulled over and ran to the restroom.
The only stall appeared occupied, but there were no sounds of flatulence, grunting, wiping, etc. coming from it. Since I was about to shit myself, I began rapping hard on the door demanding to know when he'd be out. When no answer came, I decided that it had to be empty and that I should break down the door.
Well, it wasn't empty. Some large trucker was in there (could he have been waiting for me?). And he started to beat the ever living shit out of me. Literally! I shit in my pants while he was punching me. This dude was a strong beast, like Kane Hodder or somebody.
Once I had evacuated my bowels, I had a quick burst of energy and was able to get back on my feet and run back to my car, embarrassed as the restaurant crowd watched me in shock. Then awoke in cold sweat.

I have never been a very motherly woman. I don't dislike kids, but I honestly have no idea what to do with them. My natural inclination is to treat them like I would any other adult, but I'm always afraid I'll say something that the parents will take offense at and get angry at me so I try to avoid situations with kids altogether. Thankfully my parents are more then happy to call my dog granddaughter (literally).

As far as nightmares go I've had some interesting experiences with them. I have two reoccurring nightmares that I've gotten since childhood (they're not all that scary now, but when I was a kid they were awful), and then I had this really weird series of nightmares that all tied together, but it was over a period of years that they occurred (that's somewhat long story though).
The first reoccurring nightmare I have is pretty simple. I'm a little girl standing with my parents at this old wooden building that I think is supposed to be a train station since there are train tracks that pass close to it, but the whole place looks completely abandoned save for this one really old man that my parents are talking to. The entire landscape looks like something out of Courage the Cowardly Dog with nothing but dirt as far as the eye can see.
So I'm standing with my parents when I suddenly hear this strange noise coming from the other side of the tracks. I look over and the camera (which is the only way I can think of it since the me in the dream doesn't move from holding my mom's hand) starts to pan across the landscape, moving to the other side of the tracks and across the barren dirt until it finally gets to this small shed. Just sitting there with nothing else around it.
The shed door opens and the "camera" moves inside looking over a bunch of old boxes, pictures, furniture covered in sheets. There are rats running around and the whole place seems like it's far to large for how small the shed appeared on the outside. As we're moving through I keep hearing strange sounds. Things scuffling, people whispering, I see things moving in the shadows or just out of view and I get this panicked feeling. Like I want to turn back, but the "camera" just keeps moving forward. I usually wake up before I get to the end of the shed.
With the other nightmare I'm at my parents house before we did renovations to expand the dining room. It's my birthday and there are a bunch of people there I've never seen before, but are apparently my classmates. I'm walking around trying to enjoy the party, feeling nervous from all the strangers, when suddenly I see these large clown pants, like the clown is invisible except for its cloths, running towards me.
I scream and start to run all through the house trying to escape them. I keep calling for help, but everyone seems to ignore me. Finally I try to run downstairs and rather then our normal sitting room it's like this... giant black void with a thick mist making it impossible to see the floor. The whole room is filled with pipes (kinda like the default computer screensaver?) and there are people climbing all over them in bathing suits jumping into the mist. But rather then hitting what appears to be hard ground they just fall right through like it's water.
I've seem to have gotten away from the clown pants at this point, but I know they're still searching for me. I try to get the other kids to help me, but all they want me to do is go swimming with them. They finally encourage me to climb onto the pipes as well and one of them pushes me off, but instead of hitting solid ground like I had been standing on I, as I said, dive into what seems to be water except it's perfectly clear. I can look up and easily see the pipes and the layer of mist right above the surface.
Quickly I swim back up and start trying to make my way to the stairs. I decide to try and find my mom since none of the other kids believe me or care that I'm being chased. It's like trying to slog through tar though and I can't seem to stand on the surface anymore like when I had first come down.
When I finally make it to the stairs I'm exhausted and out of breath. I head into the kitchen form the stairs and make my way to the dining room when suddenly the clown pants rush out from the hallway that leads to my parents bedroom.
I swear it's the loudest I have ever screamed in my life and right before they can reach me I see myself passing out from being so scared. As I'm collapsing there's this horrible laugh that seems to be coming from the pants before they deflate and fold themselves on our dining room chair.
At that point I always wake up. As I said these dreams started when I was a kid, but I've always had them. They're gotten less scary with time, but I still wake up feeling anxious.

Wow, that's shitty nightmare. Sorry couldn't resist. Ya, that nightmare has a few classic fear-mares wrapped up into one. But it could have been much worse... Instead of going to see "The Conjuring", you could have been going to see "The Cave".

Ack! Ya, I know what you mean, hammerfan. When are people going to mature past the assumption of stereo types?

I remember a nightmare as a child, and I'll never forget it.
I was walking down a sidewalk and there were some people sitting on their porch with their 2 German Sheppards (sp). The woman smiled at me and told her dogs to say hello to me. The dogs ran - no - bolted right out to me, on either side. Each took one of my hands and kept running, thus ripping off my arms. I immediately woke up, thank goodness.
Animals are my favorite things in the world, and I love GS dogs, so I have no idea where it came from. Childhood fear I guess. It was scary as hell and still scares me.

I know this girl who has loved Chucky since age FIVE. She was apparently never afraid of him; of course, this same girl laughs without fail when she hears about terrible tragedies, and now she has a 4 year old who likes to tell people "Chucky gonna get you."
But on topic...I had a nightmare some years ago that started out as an awesome dream. Then I was standing before a bed where a woman sat with two masks, kind of like the ones from V for Vendetta, only one was frowning and one was smiling. I picked one up and immediately knew it was the wrong one, and when I put it on it enveloped me and sucked me through into a dark hellish place, and someone was screaming and there was no escape. Then I woke up, terrified.
