Of course, you'd have to go to an expert to know for sure. I'm not an expert. But generally speaking, there are basic rules to these things. One is - how many original prints were made? Does the reel you possess even have a verifiable print marking? You may be able to google that, or may need the expert. Two - is there current interest in this subject and item for collection? I'd say there is interest, cause the film is famous with quite a following. So I doubt it's worthless to everyone. Three - are reels of films valuable as a collectable? Again, you need an expert in the field for that specific a question. But my personal general assessment would be reels of film are not easily displayable (as opposed to a painting or vase), and we know reels of film degrade over time. It's not a practical collectable in that sense.

Specific to you item, if you watch it, and there's additional content then current DVDs, the content itself could be valuable.

So in summary, google some research on the number of original prints, verification markings, and it's value. You can also google a film memorabilia source, and you can email or call and ask about it's value.

Is it a 35, 16 or 8mm film?

I think there were quite a few 8mm versions made during the 70s and 80s so they probably aren't as rare.

If you post a picture of it people would have a better idea of what you're dealing with here.

It's an OG 35mm print on two reels.

You might have something very valuable there--something you may wish to sell or keep. Contact some film collector sites and see if you can find someone local who can evaluate it.

Some people collect film prints. I think Tarantino and Rodriguez mentioned it on the Grindhouse commentary. I'm pretty sure there are two versions of Night of the Living Dead. They had a version on cable a few days ago that looked and sounded different than what I was used to.
