Anna Paquin and Ellen Page bring Rogue and Kitty Pride back for 'Days of Future Past'

As "X-Men: Days of Future Past" prepares to start shooting, director Bryan Singer (who directed the first two "X-Men" films last decade) has revealed that even more former "X-Men" stars have signed on for the film.

Based on the fan favorite storyline, "Days of Future Past" will feature both the mutant heroes of the cinematic past and present, and it looks like Rogue, Iceman and Kitty Pryde will be along for the ride.

The story involves time travel and alternate realities, so the mixing of the younger actors and older actors fits well within the film’s complex plot. The overall plot of the story essentially centers on the characters in the past being warned about and—trying to avoid—a very unappealing dystopian future. In the comics arc, Kitty Pryde plays a major role as she communicates with the characters in the past to warn them of a major assassination that’s going to take place in her present. In addition to the aforementioned actors/characters, the story also involves the character of Colossus, so we could possibly see Daniel Cudmore return or the role recast.

Singer has just confirmed that "X-Men" stars Anna Paquin, Shawn Ashmore and Ellen Page are joining the swelling ranks of the upcoming sequel to "X-Men: First Class." He even included a shout-out to "X-Men: The Last Stand" director Brett Ratner.

He tweeted, "Very excited to welcome #annapaquin, @ellenpage & @shawnrashmore to #XMen #DaysofFuturePast - thank you @BrettRatner for letting them live!"

The trio will be reunited with Hugh Jackman, who is returning as Wolverine, while Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart will also reprise their respective roles as Magneto and Professor X.

They will share the screen with "X-Men First Class" stars such as James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender and more.

X-Men: Days of Future Past opens on July 18, 2014.

Sentinels Will Be A Major Part Of X-Men: Days Of Future Past

The closest X-Men fans came to seeing Sentinels on screen wasn’t very close at all. The towering robotic assassins were part of a Danger Room sequence in Brett Ratner’s forgettable X-Men: The Last Stand, though the only thing we really were able to see was Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) standing next to the severed head of a Sentinel after Colossus sling-shot him off screen.

In an earlier piece, Eric picked up notes from a recent Mark Millar interview in SFX Magazine where the comic guru and current creative consultant at 20th Century Fox promised a beefed-up role for Kitty Pryde (Ellen Page) in Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past. Further down in the same piece, though, Millar also confessed that the Sentinels would be “a big feature of this story.”

"They will be cool and this will deliver on all of the teasers. We’ve all been waiting for this ever since X-Men: The Last Stand showed us one of their heads. Now it is finally coming, and we only have to pay ten quid to see it in the cinema whereas they’re having to pay $100 million to deliver it. So I’m delighted.”

Sentinels are giant freaking robots programmed to hunt and kill mutants. They are a major part of Future Past, and you really couldn’t adapt that storyline without them.

'X-Men': Major change in this summer's 'Days of Future Past'

There will be one less mutant in this summer’s highly anticipated X-Men: Days of Future Past, which combines the casts of the original X-Men trilogy with those of 2011′s First Class.

Director Bryan Singer (The Usual Suspects) has revealed exclusively that a rescue sequence — shot early in the film’s production and featuring Magneto (Ian McKellen), Professor X (Patrick Stewart), Rogue (Anna Paquin), and Iceman (Shawn Ashmore) — has been cut from the final film.

Sadly, this means that Rogue’s screen time has been significantly chopped down as well.
