My best-friend's cousin passed away, after an hour she heard knocks on their door and when she opened, there was none. Did the cousin visit her? Is ghost real?

If you hear a rapping on your chamber door,
It's a raven,
or the ghost of Lenore.

Almost positive that I've been around ghosts twice. Not joking either.

I don't know about ghosts but in Ireland we used to believe in faeries. Here's an interesting/infamous story I posted on here before http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bridget_Cleary
It's absurd but you will be hard pressed to find somebody who's prepared to knowingly cut down or damage a Faerie Tree. If you ever visit and notice a farmer's field with a a solitary inexplicably in the middle, it's because it's a Faerie Tree.
It's probably just Karma for the Irish. If you go about worried negative things will happen, they may very well do.
Same with ghosts, if you're open minded and go about looking for unexplained occurences, you're bound to find something. Maybe they exist, who knows?
That said, I did see a UFO one time. Me and my dad were driving to my Grandmother's house In Newtownards one winter evening when I spotted a strange cluster of lights hovering adjacent to Scrabo Tower. We kept looking at it and were so intrigued we pulled over at the side of the dual carriageway. We watched the lights hover for a few minutes and then they travelled incredibly quickly in our direction. The object shot over our heads in silence, 100 ft up, was perfectly triangular and had a blue jet coming from the rear. Could've been the military testing a 'harrier' type aircraft but why did it hover beside an obvious hazard? Why was it silent? Ps, neither of us are mad or particularly into extraterrestrials etc.

I have seen literally 100's of so-called ghosts. I've "removed" them from several residences as well for people who have been bothered by noises in the night and moving objects.
For me it's "soul residue" left over thoughts and emotions, etc. from having been on this plane. Much the same way dead skin cells flake off your body where ever you go, so does residue from your spirit or energy or being or whatever you want to call it.
So, is it possible your friend's dead cousin still had a thought or emotion of wanting to say goodbye before they left their body that then became a knock at the door...sure.

Ah, the short answer is "awareness" I guess. It's not something I ever "tried" to do. I don't go ghost hunting or anything like that. I'm just aware or (I hate to use this phrase but) in touch with it. Just been that way since I was a kid. I hate labels, but "psychic" comes up sometimes. I see flashes of things before they happen kind of stuff too. I use to not talk about it but I don't really care anymore. I know I'm going to be judge by people no matter what I say and do, so I might as well at least be honest with myself.

That's not a bad idea. I keep saying I need to read more and watch TV and be online less. I have a mountain of books that are begging to be read! :)

Yeah, work was crazy the last few months and I needed to focus on my bills and health. I read quite a few books myself while away. I also quit smoking too after 20 some years. Cold turkey exactly 3 weeks ago today. I didn't want to, but felt it was time.

Congratulations on quitting smoking! I know first-hand how difficult it is. I quit almost two years ago. That's the other part of needing to unplug: I need to get more active and quit being a couch-and-computer-potato!

On both incidents? I'll try to write a something up this weekend. I don't go looking for ghosts. Some stuff just freaks me out. But the two occurrences were almost identical in feel. And spaced very far apart. One when I was young. Another when I was in my late teens. Sadly, I was scared both times. Yes, even when I was in my teens. If there is a third time I might try to really see what's going on. But what struck me about both incidents is how fast the fight or flee thing kicked in.
