1980s Voodoo horror title?

Around 1984 I saw a low budget, b/w horror film set in a decaying mansion in Louisiana. I remember thinking it was just going to be stupid until it actually started terrifying my friends and I. I have tried to recall this movie in the past few years but with no luck. Anybody have any idea what movie this might be?

I think I've tracked down the movie I'm looking for. In another forum somebody suggested Lucio Fulci's 'The Beyond' and that sounds like the one. I think it was released in the us as something like The 7 Gates of Hell or something.
