The group doesn't choose a best picture, it only ranks the 10 best movies of the year and lists them alphabetically, and this year's list could easily mirror the eventual best-picture field for the Academy Awards.

Here's the full list, followed by the group's ranking for best TV shows:

AFI MOVIES OF THE YEAR

Argo
Beasts of the Southern Wild
The Dark Knight Rises
Django Unchained
Les Miserables
Life of Pi
Lincoln
Moonrise Kingdom
Silver Linings Playbook
Zero Dark Thirty

AFI TV PROGRAMS OF THE YEAR

American Horror Story
Breaking Bad
Game Change
Game of Thrones
Girls
Homeland
Louie
Mad Men
Modern Family
The Walking Dead

The only movie I've seen is The Dark Knight Rises. I'm hoping to see Les Miserables the weekend after Christmas.

I'm a little disappointed that Once Upon A Time didn't make the TV list.

V: What do you think about Dark Knight Rising making the list, but not Prometheus?

Prometheus has it's fair share of flaws so I don't expect it to make it to any "Best of 2012" lists, except maybe visual/sound effects and/or cinematography. Even there they might be lucky to score an Oscar, now that Life of Pi has come out (with The Avengers already breathing down their necks).

That being said, no movie is spared from flaws (narrative or technical) but then other films, even The Dark Knight Rises, have comparatively lesser scenes (read "problems") where the audiences can point an accusing finger at them. Too bad Prometheus is appreciated only by the few, and ridiculed by the majority.

Hmmm Life of Pi is on there eh? I was really steering clear of any movie from the director of "The Hulk" but I might cave in and check it out.
