STRANGER THAN FICTION Writer Zach Helm to Pen JUMANJI Remake

As we reported earlier this year, Sony Pictures is looking to remake their 1995 hit film, Jumanji. For those unfamiliar with the original Robin Williams flick, the story (based on a 1981 illustrated children’s book) focuses on two adults and a pair of siblings who must play through the eponymous magical board game, which keeps creating horrific jungle conditions in the real-world every time someone makes a new move or tries to cheat.

According to Heat Vision, Sony has hired Stranger Than Fiction writer Zach Helm to pen the remake.

There are no details on how the remake will differ from the original, but Helm is a smart choice for the magical realism of Jumanji. In addition to Stranger Than Fiction, he also wrote and directed Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium, and did a rewrite on the upcoming remake of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty starring Ben Stiller.

I love that movie! Hard to imagine without Robin Williams in it.

Okay, stop with all of the remakes, this one definitely doesn't need a remake. Jumanji isn't even that old for crying out loud.

I shouldn't have said stop with all of the remakes because there are a few I've been waiting and hoping for, but Jumanji is not one of them.

Hollywood is trying to cash famous movies by making reboot or remake. Insted of this they have to work on sequel.

Couldn't agree with this more. I for one would love to see a gore filled sequel of Jumanji-like the game players inflict jungle related acts of pain and torture on each other through each role of the dice. I think making it more of a horror would be my personal preference but even a stright-up sequel similar to the first film would be better than yet another shitty remake.
