The French-Canadian film Martyrs is being remade and it'll be American.. it was such a good movie, I sometimes doubt American horror.. especially remakes.. but I hope it turns out good!

I quite liked Let Me In.
I don't see this remake being as good however as there were so many layers to it and most Hollywood stuff is pretty hollow.

basically what i'm saying. perfect movie. americans put their hands on it and make it a 'teen scream' but i'm HOPING that it wont be that way, since the original director is apparently a part of the remake. lets just hope.

Me too re Let Me In.
What bothers me most about the remake of Martyrs is this comment by director Daniel Stamm (The Last Exorcism):
"Martyrs is very nihilistic," he told 24 Frames. "The American approach [that I'm looking at] would go through all that darkness but then give a glimmer of hope. You don't have to shoot yourself when it's over."
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/movies/2010/11/martyrs-remake-pascal-laugier-daniel-stamm.html
Talk about dumbing it down for the American audiences. Quite frankly, the strongest quality of Martyrs that connected with me and haunted me was its Nihilism and absolute utter hopeless. THAT'S PART OF THE FUCKING POINT.
If you add a "glimmer of hope" then you're fucking ruining it. Don't bother. ARGH.
I'm usually not this up-in-arms about remakes (because some of them can be good, like Let Me In and, in my opinion, The Grudge), but this specific comment just grinds my gears. Talk about pussifying a movie.

omg that's exactly what I said. add a glimmer of hope and you ruin the fucking movie. i'm just trying to be optimistic that for once they'll leave remake a good movie into another good movie... but with martyrs.. doubt it!

Reminds me of THE VANISHING from years ago. The original and the American version was made by the same director, but the American one had a happy ending because the director felt that that's what Americans expect in their movies.

Personally i do not like a happy ending, life isnt all joy and fun it is sometimes brutal.
Great endings like Se7en or Cormac McCarthy`s The Road,or The Mist are what i want,to leave the cinema drained not jumping through hoops because some blonde bimbo defeated the bad guy with a lame knife through the heart.

Oh you just know the Americans will make it a PG-13

I take back anything harsh I've said about the original in the past-it's gonna look like a masterpiece compared to this shit.

Oh. Wow. I didn't even realize that they had remade The Vanishing (just had to look up the remake - gag) - Way to ruin a classic thriller.

Pretty fucked up comment to make given the make up artist on Martyrs killed himself right after the movie was done...
I'll see this because it's a horror movie.
I understand the backlash against remakes, but there's so few horror movies even being made these days, I try to watch them all anyway. Especially ones that don`t rely on found footage BS.
This will probably suck ass, but at least I can drink a six pack and laugh at how bad it is, then bitch about it online...
i haven't seen the original what's it about???
It`s basically a modern re-telling of the Passion of Joan of Arc. It`s absolutely brilliant imo and has one of the best endings of any horror movie ever.
It`s just as misunderstood by most people as the original Hostel was (another great film that unfairly gets labelled `torture porn.`)
