Sorry, I was confined to my bed with a combination of severe illness and an accident on Saturday night. I was fighting the fever all through last week as much as I could, but the accident broke me. Still not recovered yet, but came online to post an update on my situation.

glad to know I braved snarky business center & narrowly made my Escape from New York to win .... Nothing! Should have stayed & hung out with Frankenstorm.

I was sweating trying to finish that crossword too and there is no punishment this time around for the no shows. Of course, there is the Health Packs bonus which might come in handy.

Sorry, my friends. We didn't have a Reward Outing for the Final 10 and the game was becoming a bit monotonous with challenges, results, Hunts over and over again so I thought this would be a welcome change, with the festival season on, and time for free gifts for everyone. What better than to take a break from the Hunts and indulge in some free gifts for the paths ahead?

But it turned out to be on the contrary. Anyway, you all will have a chance to draw blood soon, and it will be a real splatter.

UPDATE FROM THE ZONE


SIX hunters have done their hunting so far, and that is a total of ONE HUNDRED THIRTY FIVE shots and TWO blasts from the Plasma Cannons!!

Holy smokin' hell! Some bloodbath, this. :eek:


TWO hunters remain silent. There's still 16 hours left to the deadline.

Let's see what happened inside it...

RESULTS OF THE TWELFTH HUNTING ZONE OUTING


The gates of the Hunting Zone are opened by the BR guards to let all contestants back into the BR compound.

For a long time, nobody enters. The eerie silence of the Zone becomes a mute witness of the carnage from earlier in the day. Then slowly, one by one, they come in...one, two, three, four, five, six...

SIX!!!

Which means, and confirmed by the BR scanners - NO LESS THAN THREE DEAD BODIES INSIDE THE ZONE!!!


Let's crank up the BR camera recordings, from earlier...



REALDEALBLUES watched the birds fly off in the distance, and looked back at the ground in front of him through the bushes, straight at the big rock behind which IMMORTALSLASHER was hiding, nervously looking around. He pulled out his Assault Rifle and squeezed the trigger in one swift action!

BLAM! BLAM!! BLAM!!! BLAM!!!! BLAM!!!!!...

(The hail of bullets pierced through Immortal's body like knives carving through butter, and immediate sprays of blood made him cough out loud as the bullets thudded again and again, driving him backwards on the rock he was leaning on. Fortunately, Immortal had a huge bunch of HPs to dig in and when Realdeal's shooting stopped, his weak hands patched himself and left him with 76 HPs in his bag.)

REALDEALBLUES dropped his empty Assault Rifle and walked all the way into the BIG Section to hide, where he was safe.

(Although, the sound of his gunfire had attracted some other kind of attention...)



FREDDYMYERS waited till the sound of the distant gunfire ceased, then hurriedly moved towards the source of those sounds. He soon came upon ImmortalSlasher nursing his wounds, took one long look at him, and moved ahead. His target was in the distance, rapidly moving through the foliage. He quickened his steps and noticed REALDEALBLUES not too far off in the distance. He stopped, pulled out his Plasma Cannon, aimed, and fired!!

SHRACKT!!

(Realdealblues went flying, the huge blast of the cannon throwing him forward against a huge tree. A smoking hot hole was left on his back, which painfully spurted out thick bursts of blood. He pulled out his HPs to patch himself up rapidly, and after the ordeal was done, he was left with 69 HPs.)

FREDDYMYERS then waltzed into the SMALL Section, confident and happy. THE WEREWOLF snarled at him and came running through the trees, and FreddyMyers gulped as he raised his STALKER SHIELD! The Werewolf swiped against the Shield 3 times, before letting out a huge blood-curdling howl and swiftly disappeared into the distance. FreddyMyers let out a big sigh of relief.



STRAKER clutched his Desert Eagle tightly in anticipation. Someone was approaching him from the front! He waited till the person entered his line of vision, lifted his gun to aim and fired, straight at NEWB FIVE TIMES!!!

BLAM! BLAM!! BLAM!!! BLAM!!!! BLAM!!!!!

(Newb never knew what hit him. The bullets thudded into him and he reeled backwards, trying to control himself. He fell heavily, breathing hard. He tried to aim at his attacker, but Straker had not waited but quickly moved ahead. Newb pulled out his HPs and after patching himself, was left with 19 HPs.)

Straker had spotted a new target on the right, some distance off. NIGHTMARE OF DEATH was looking all around, apparently a bit dazed and confused about what to do and where to start. Straker aimed at her, and shot her FIVE TIMES!!!

BLAM! BLAM!! BLAM!!! BLAM!!!! BLAM!!!!!

(Nightmare whirled suddenly, but wasn't fast enough to dodge the bullets which pounded into her body. She fell down and grabbed at her HP bag. 5 patches later, she was breathing again, although she now had 45 HPs left with her.)

Straker had swiftly moved forward, hearing the sounds of an Assault Rifle in the distance. Sure enough, he came across a clearing where REALDEALBLUES was patching himself after being attacked by FreddyMyers. Straker gave him some extra wounds to patch, as he shot him FIVE TIMES!!!

BLAM! BLAM!! BLAM!!! BLAM!!!! BLAM!!!!!

(Realdealblues had just finished applying HPs to himself as Straker's bullets rained on him. 5 new holes sprayed fresh blood out and the HPs came out again to do their duty. He was now left with 64 HPs.)

STRAKER holstered his Desert Eagle there, then wandered into the MEDIUM Section, where he remained safe.



ZERO swung through the trees, looking around. He saw GOREPHOBIA in the distance and went towards him, holding something in his hand. As soon as he came across Gorephobia, he aimed directly at his head and THREW! The pooh splotched Gorephobia straight on his face, and Gorephobia sputtered angrily towards the trees. But Zero had disappeared by then.

Zero had seen him. He licked his red, simian lips as he swung silently from the trees at his quarry. Suddenly stopping, perched at the highest branch of a huge tree, Zero looked down at him. He was cursing to himself, swearing revenge at someone who had shot him. Zero grinned, aimed, and started firing all his TWENTY shots at NEWB!!!!

BLAM! BLAM!! BLAM!!! BLAM!!!! BLAM!!!!!...

(Newb was scanning all directions looking for Straker. When the bullets started raining from above, he didn't expect them. They thudded repeatedly into his body and threw him back against the ground, and still they did not relent till they riddled his entire body like cheese!! His remaining 19 HPs came out to do their duty, and by the time they patched him up, Newb was left Wounded.)

ZERO let out a loud simian yell of joyous victory, before moving out of those trees and swung into the SMALL Section, where THE WEREWOLF glared angrily at him! The monkey-man shrunk in sudden surprise and fear, as the Werewolf charged down on him and swiped it's paws all over his body!! Zero bled torrents, and bled hard. 40 of his HPs stock came out to patch him, and to keep him alive.



NEWB was WOUNDED, and he was angry. He was not used to people sneaking up to him, and not one but TWO people had done that already. He was fuming when GOREPHOBIA stumbled into his sights, cleaning the pooh off his face. Newb, blinded with rage, pulled out his Assault Rifle and started firing blindly at him!!!!!

BLAM! BLAM!! BLAM!!! BLAM!!!! BLAM!!!!!...

(Gorephobia, half-blinded by Zero's pooh, heard the click of the trigger but couldn't do anything about the rapid-fire shots which came thundering through the air at him. They pounded mercilessly into several parts of his body like missiles, and he went flying back into the bushes. 30 HP patches later, he was able to breathe again, but had only 7 left with him.)

Newb threw the now-empty Assault Rifle away, and got up with his Desert Eagle. He limped forward slowly and spent a long time wandering through the Zone, looking for his tormentor. At last, he spotted STRAKER in the distance and ran forward to greet him with his gun!!!!!

BLAM! BLAM!! BLAM!!! BLAM!!!! BLAM!!!!!...

(Straker was half-expecting this counter-attack, but didn't expect it at the time Newb arrived. The bullets thudded repeatedly into his body, drilling new holes all over it. By the time the Desert Eagle emptied all it's contents, Straker was ridden with several shredded holes all over. 20 HPs patched him up, and Straker was left with 22 HPs.)

NEWB let out a loud smacking whoop of satisfaction, and travelled all the way to the BIG section where he stayed safe.



IMMORTALSLASHER waited till the sounds died down and the smoke cleared from in front of him. He was patched from head to toe, and looked like Marv from Sin City. He sneaked silently forward, his ears open and alert for any sounds. A small rustling sound started, and ImmortalSlasher followed it. It was the sound of REALDEALBLUES dragging his injured body through the dry leaves on the ground. ImmortalSlasher came out, and growled savagely at RealDealBlues.

"Payback time." The muttered words pleased ImmortalSlasher no end. Out came his Assault Rifle!!!!!!

BLAM! BLAM!! BLAM!!! BLAM!!!! BLAM!!!!!...

(30 shots like lightning bolts blasted across Realdealblues's body from head to toe. If he hadn't saved so many HPs till then he would have been long dead. As it is, his HPs immediately did their duty in patching him up, although by this time he was severely weakened by the repeated attacks on him. 34 HPs were left with him by the time this fresh attack was over.)

IMMORTALSLASHER then went into the SMALL section, where he was greeted by THE WEREWOLF! He was terrified and tried to run back, but the Werewolf grabbed him from behind and swiped it's nails all over his body. The Slasher had got slashed, and how! 40 HPs came out to breathe life back into ImmortalSlasher's body, and he was left with 36 HPs. But, most importantly, he was alive.



WEAPON X studied the footprints on the ground intently. He was tracking particular enemies, and he knew whose prints these were. He followed them for a short distance before he came across a heaving, panting body leaned on a tree. Weapon X gritted his teeth and fired his Plasma Cannon straight at REALDEALBLUES!!!!!!!

SHRACKT!!!!!

(The exploding lightning bolt hit Realdealblues hard. His body was blasted to bits as small chunks of flesh flew off his chest and legs and blood blackened his wounds. HPs started their work of patching, but more was to come.)

Weapon X didn't stop there. He pulled out his Desert Eagle and started firing at Realdealblues even before he had started patching.

BLAM! BLAM!! BLAM!!! BLAM!!!! BLAM!!!!!...

The bullets bore through Realdealblues's body, and the 15th bullet went right through his head!!!!!!!




REALDEALBLUES IS DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!

Weapon X retracted his gun back, leaving the swirling, smoking hole in Realdealblues's forehead as his eyes rolled back into his head and his soul left the mortal world.

Weapon X moved ahead, looking around him for another target he had already set in his mind. And soon, he found him hiding inside the bushes, nursing the wounds which Newb had given him.

Weapon X pulled his Desert Eagle out, and pounded the remaining FIVE bullets into GOREPHOBIA!!!!!!! To add to it, Weapon X also shot him with his special DOUBLE SHOT!!

(Gorephobia, already weakened badly by the severe attack from Newb, couldn't do anything but lie helplessly as the bullets thudded into his body. He bled profusely as all his remaining HPs did their job. He was still breathing, but had run out of HPs by then.)

WEAPON X then strode directly into the SMALL Section, where THE WEREWOLF was waiting! Weapon X did his best to dodge the huge beast, but The Werewolf was too quick. It mercilessly craved it's nail marks all over his body and ran away, and Weapon X was left tending to his near-fatal wounds with his HPs. 40 of them healed him and breathed new life into his worsted body, and he was left with 28 HPs.



NIGHTMARE OF DEATH calmly waited till everyone else was done with their shootings. She had a few patches on her from the sudden attack by Straker, but that had not dampened her enthusiasm or her plans for even a small bit. She licked her lips and ticked off her specific targets in her mind, before moving forward into the deeper foliage parts of the Zone.

She first came across NEWB, wounded and propped up against a big yew tree. She pulled her Desert Eagle out and started shooting FIVE times at him, the FIFTH bullet thundering through Newb's heart!!!!!!!!

(Newb, already WOUNDED and sore from his attacks, had no strength nor will to pull out of his final assault on his senses. When the final bullet punctured his heart and thundered out, he welcomed the darkness which came soon after and sunk slowly into it.)


NEWB IS DEAD!!!!!!!!!


Nightmare didn't stop to watch Newb die. She knew she had nailed him with the last bullet, so moved ahead to her next specified-in-mind target. Soon, she spotted him inside the bushes, big breaths breaking the blood spurts of his body. Nightmare aimed, and squeezed the trigger of her Desert Eagle FIVE TIMES again, straight at GOREPHOBIA!!!!!!!!

(Gorephobia had run out of HPs after surviving the intense attack from Weapon X. Nightmare's shots blasted his body apart, and the final two bullets punctured his lung and liver. His body wracked, spasmodically, and internal bleeding made his brain stop working. But death came a long time later, and it was painful and slow.)


GOREPHOBIA IS DEAD!!!!!!!!!


Nightmare again didn't stop, leaving Gorephobia to his fatal fate. She moved silently ahead, and stalked a shadow till the shadow stopped some yards ahead of her. She closed in, aimed her Assault Rifle, and fired exactly FIVE TIMES at FREDDYMYERS!!!!!!!!

(FreddyMyers was taken by absolute surprise. The bullets punched holes in his body but thankfully he had enough HPs to survive. 5 of them patched him up, and he was left with 4.)

Nightmare moved ahead, not waiting to check on the results of her attack on FreddyMyers. She moved into a dry, barren area of the Zone and saw someone just ahead of her, trying to sneak into a small cave between the rocks. She went ahead, pulled up her Assault Rifle, and started firing directly at STRAKER FIVE TIMES!!!!!!!!

(Straker was trying his best to hide, but was unaware of this fresh attack from behind. Nevertheless, the HPs came out faithfully yet again to patch him up, and he was left with 17 of them when Nightmare had disappeared from the scene.)

NIGHTMARE OF DEATH, apparently satisfied with her hunting, made a beeline for the MEDIUM section, where she remained safe.


And so, the Second HDC Battle Royale IV BLOODBATH came to an end.

As soon as the gates closed behind them, FOUR Super Sixers gathered together and had a long, deep conversation between them. Then, agreeing on something by mutual consent, they dispersed into various parts of the Zone.


ZERO climbed up the nearest tall tree, and swung through the branches to the top and then started jumping from tree to tree, looking for a specific target. For a long time, he couldn't spot his quarry. But soon enough, the silhouette of a running figure in the distance made him stop suddenly and check it out in closer detail. NIGHTMARE OF DEATH was running ahead, glancing behind her once or twice intermittently. Zero got his shotgun out, aimed, and started pulling the trigger rapidly, loading the shotgun up quickly in-between!

BLAM! BLAM!! BLAM!!! BLAM!!!! BLAM!!!!!...

(15 shotgun blasts thudded into Nightmare's back and she went sprawling forward, falling like a freshly-cut tree. The blood gushing out of her wounds made her bright like a red chestnut tree, and she quickly gathered her breath to patch herself. After she was done, she was left with 36 HPs.)

ZERO put his shotgun back into his weapon bag, and kept swinging till he found the ALPHA Area, where he stayed safe for awhile.



STRAKER waited with bated breath in the pitch black darkness of the cave, occasionally straining his head to hear the sounds in the distance - birds chirping, loud cawing, insects thrumming in the bushes, swishing sounds...and sudden shotgun firing!! He tensed up, realising someone had found their target. And it was close!

Soon enough, someone came sprawling through the bushes and crawled into the cave, groaning in sheer, blinding pain. Straker looked at the face and licked his lips. He couldn't believe his luck! NIGHTMARE OF DEATH had patched herself up and was taking a break to heal herself, but this break would prove to be very costly for her. Silently, in the dark, Straker took his shotgun out, aimed, and started squeezing the trigger!!

BLAM! BLAM!! BLAM!!! BLAM!!!! BLAM!!!!!...

(Nightmare's surprise was evident. She was in a blind line of fire and there was nowhere to go. She bore the full brunt of the shotgun blasts and did her best to patch herself up in-between the times Straker reloaded his shotgun. But Straker didn't stop. All 25 shells thudded into Nightmare's body, throwing bits of flesh and thick blood everywhere, as fresh wounds splotched up blood all over her body. By the time Straker was done with her, her HP count had reduced by TWENTY-FIVE more, and she was left with 11 HPs.)

STRAKER ran out of the small cave, and immediately put enough distance between him and Nightmare. He then started wandering aimlessly till he reached the BETA Area, fully confident. THE ALIEN watched him enter it's Area, and quietly snarled at him from a distance. It came running through the trees and lunged at Straker, it's tail flashing to impale him, mouth open. Straker saw it at the last moment and grabbed his STALKER SHIELD to raise it to protect himself. The Alien's tail thudded on the Shield and retracted, and the Alien lunged again, this time with it's second mouthful of jaws. The Shield again did it's duty, protecting Straker from sheer death. The Alien stepped back, a bit puzzled, then jumped to it's right and disappeared in the distance. Straker kissed his Stalker Shield amid long breaths and thanked the stars for his luck, with immense relief.



IMMORTALSLASHER took out his .44 Magnum in a flash, fully alert at the shotgun blasting ahead of him. He peered forward and could make out a small cave well-hidden between the bushes, and saw flashes of fire illuminating the darkness from inside. He waited till all of it was over, noticed Straker run out from the cave and disappear to his right, and a little while later, NIGHTMARE OF DEATH came crawling out of the cave, bloodied and patched all over. He stopped blinking, aimed the Magnum at Nightmare, and started squeezing the trigger rapidly!!!

BLAM! BLAM!! BLAM!!! BLAM!!!! BLAM!!!!!...

(Nightmare didn't realise who was shooting at her. All she knew was the shots were drilling into her body and creating new holes out of which her hot blood was gushing out. Bullet after bullet bore into her body, and she was biting her bloodied lip to fight back the stinging pain and the blackness which followed. ImmortalSlasher stopped after firing exactly 11 shots, and Nightmare used up every last one of her remaining 11 HPs to patch herself. Now, her HP bag was empty.)

IMMORTALSLASHER drew back his Magnum and holstered it, then walked directly in the direction of the ALPHA Area, where he stayed safe.



NIGHTMARE OF DEATH gritted her teeth, hurting and angry. She had already realised that she was the main target (and maybe the sole as well) and she had to quickly do something before she was toast. She was hurting really bad, aching all over her body. Her HPs had disappeared in a flash in healing her from the huge attacks till now. She lifted herself, limped badly and fell down, and tried to get up again using a nearby tree to prop herself up.

She knew she couldn't stay there. Someone else must have heard the shots and might be on his way to her at this very instant! She tried to run but could manage limping forward slowly till she got out of that bushy area and came across a clearing. On the other end of the clearing, something glistening and red lay across a huge rock, sprawled as if resting.

She realised it was ZERO! Out came her Desert Eagle and then the firing started!!!!

BLAM! BLAM!! BLAM!!! BLAM!!!! BLAM!!!!!...

(5 bullets pierced through the air in Zero's direction, and before the redhead had a chance to react, he was hit. He glared in the direction of Nightmare, but by then Nightmare had rolled over to her left and had vanished. Zero patched himself up and 75 HPs was left with him.)

Nightmare had wandered into a completely new section of the Zone, and she heard rustling noises coming from her right. She limped through the shrubbery, out came her Rocket Launcher, and suddenly came face-to-face with WEAPON X! Both were startled at the sight of each other, but Nightmare already had her Rocket Launcher at the ready. As Weapon X lunged to one side reaching for his arms, Nightmare fired!!!!

DHRAMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!

(The impact of the blast was huge. Weapon X was thrown into the bushes, his body sliced up by huge pieces of shrapnel all over. 5 HPs came out to do their duty, and Weapon X was left with 63 HPs.)

NIGHTMARE OF DEATH moved to her left and kept moving till she reached the ALPHA Area, where she was safe from the Alien...


...but not safe from someone else.



WEAPON X was injured, but more angry at the way he was startled and attacked. He took long breaths as the HPs started kicking in, and waited till he felt a bit more level-headed. Then, with a grim and set face, he started on the trail which his attacker had left on the ground. Quietly sneaking forward, he spotted NIGHTMARE OF DEATH in the distance, waiting helplessly. Cocking the KING SHOT that he carried with him, Weapon X aimed directly at Nightmare's head from the distance, and pulled the trigger!!!!!

BLAMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!

(Nightmare didn't have a chance. The huge rocket-powered shell blazed through the air and blasted her head apart into a million pieces, which splattered all over the bushes, shrubs and tree stems all around her.)




NIGHTMARE_OF_DEATH IS DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!




WEAPON X nodded determinedly to himself once, savagely. "Take that, you *****!" the words flashed across his mind in a dazzle. Then he turned around to move into the BETA Area to hide, but as his bad luck would have it, THE ALIEN was waiting for him. The Alien, frustrated at not being able to harm Straker, turned it's full fury on Weapon X. He couldn't ward off the double attack of the stinging tail and the snapping double jaws, and the Alien's tail pierced him directly through his shoulder, narrowly missing his left lung. The Alien jumped into the trees, tail swishing, leaving Weapon X a battered mess. 50 HPs came out to heal him back till the Zone deadline expired, and he was left with 13 HPs in the end.


And...THAT'S IT!!

I chose an Area randomly for him, which is Area ALPHA, and he is safe from the Alien. Lucky.

Im shutting my cable and internet off tomorrow as I cant pay my bill. hell i'm behind in rent and catch up is going to be hell as well. so whatever online doing i do will be on the 3g's on my phone...if they even work. or at the library. I feel like crap for messing up financially and gonna get it from everyone but theyre gonna make me feel worse by keep saying shit. so i try to keep my head high in all of this. its tough but just another bump to climb over.

Thanks yea I'm surprised I lasted as long as I did. I'll get them sorted out just will take a while. but will all be okay, that's all i gotta keep thinking. I'll keep posting. RESULTS OF THE FOURTEENTH HUNTING ZONE OUTING


The BR guards are immediately asked to open the huge gates of the BR Hunting Zone.

For a long, long time, there's nobody on sight. Then, a FINALIST emerges in the distance, patched in HPs and covered in dust and grime, apparently walking through shots, explosions and survival nightmares.

Again a long interval ticks by slowly, and a second FINALIST literally crawls in, covered in HP patches from head to toe, his body riddled with holes, gaping flesh wounds, exploded parts...all patched up and covered with dark-red HPs.

And then follows...silence. Permanent silence.

ONLY TWO FINALISTS HAVE RETURNED!!!

Which means, and the BR cameras confirm - NO LESS THAN THREE DEAD BODIES LIE INSIDE THE ZONE!!!


Let's put all the BR camera recordings to Rewind, and see what all happened inside the Zone...

When the gates closed behind the Finalists, TWO Finalists stood huddled together, talking animatedly with small hand gestures. Suddenly, agreeing upon something between them, they dispersed into opposite areas of the Zone.


IMMORTALSLASHER scratched himself, apparently bored by waiting for targets in a hidden place behind some thick bushes. He had been laying flat on the ground for a long time, and nobody had entered his line of vision yet. Then, a shadowy figure emerged from the trees away on his right, and slowly started moving towards him. Alarmed that his cover was blown, Immortal grabbed at his shotgun, aimed blindly and started firing at FREDDYMYERS!

BLAM! BLAM!! BLAM!!! BLAM!!!! BLAM!!!!!...

(20 shotgun blasts thundered into Freddy's legs and chest and he went flying backwards from the impact. He was breathing heavily as he landed but he drew out his HPs in a flash, before the stinging pain could attack him and make his brain numb. After the patching, he was left with 24 HPs.)

Immortal couldn't wait to check on the impact he left on Freddy, because he was suddenly alert at a rustling sound from behind him. He grabbed his Rocket Launcher just as he spotted a tall figure rushing towards him. Quickly, he let the rockets fly!

SHRAMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!

STRAKER had spotted Immortal inside the bushes, but had failed to notice the Rocket Launcher's glint in the sunlight. He did his best to dodge the rocket as it flew straight at him, but couldn't stop from getting blasted by it. And Immortal was in no mood to spare him. Two more rockets sped through the air at Straker, one after the other!

(Straker's body was literally thrown from one place to another as the rockets thundered and blasted all around him. The damage was deep, and the impacts really bad. 15 HPs came out to do their duty.)

Immortal didn't stop there. Out came his FIREBALL spell, and tore through the air, mercilessly straight at Straker!

DHRACKKKKKKKKK!!!!!

(Straker couldn't dodge the Fireball, weak as he was with the twin rocket blasts. He felt his own blood splatter out from his chest as he coughed up blood, the fireball thundering on his body and burning him from head to toe in an instant. 30 more HPs came out to do their duty, and by the time Straker was finished, he had used up 45 HPs and was left with 56.)

IMMORTALSLASHER quickly threw his empty Rocket Launcher away, packed up his Shotgun and .44 Magnum, and ran directly into Sector Y, where he was safe.




STRAKER lay quietly, amidst heaving, long breaths. His body was desperately trying to heal itself from the devastating attack which it had been subjected to. And Straker ground his teeth in absolute fury, as something snapped inside him!!

After a short while, he felt some strength returning back into his weakened body and senses, and immediately got up. He had decided upon something inside his mind, and now it was time to execute.

Scanning the trees around him, he spotted something red in the distance.

BLAM! BLAM!! BLAM!!!

(The rockets sped at the speed of light, one after the other, straight towards ZERO!! He had absolutely no time to jump at a nearby tree's branch to save himself, and the rockets exploded in his face with relentless fury!! He went flying towards the ground, arms and legs flailing helplessly in the air, as his body was torn apart in numerous places. He landed with a thud, and his body was immediately sore. By the time he patched himself, his HP count had reduced by 15.)

Straker didn't stop there. He saw Zero falling in the distance and immediately leapt towards that direction. As soon as he had the redhead monkey in his sights, the FIREBALL flew!!

DHRACKKKKKKKKK!!!!!

(Zero watched helplessly as the ball of fire roared towards him and exploded in his face with the might of a landmine, and he was thrown backwards at a rock behind him. 30 more HPs came out to patch him up.)

Poor Zero's misfortunes hadn't stopped there. Straker chucked his empty Rocket Launcher away and pulled out his RAILGUN. Pointing it towards the severely injured redhead primate, he quickly squeezed the trigger seven times!!

BLAM! BLAM!! BLAM!!! BLAM!!!!...

(Zero's already sore body was plastered with seven new holes as the charred bullets tore into it. 7 HPs from his remaining stock came out to heal him, and he was left with 33 HPs by the time he disappeared into the bushes, out of Straker's sights.)

Straker moved into another area of the Zone, then looked around him, his mouth set grimly as his furious eyes searched for someone in particular. The silhouette was set against the boulder, and Straker recognised who it was. Out came the .44 Magnum.

BLAM! BLAM!! BLAM!!! BLAM!!!! BLAM!!!!!...

The shots broke the silence and stillness of the area, as the flashes lit up the dimly-lit part of the forest all around. The shots thundered one by one straight into IMMORTALSLASHER's body in numerous places, tearing new holes all over him which immediately started gushing out crimson-red, thick blood. Not content by the damage he had inflicted, Straker dropped his empty .44 Magnum and aimed his KING SHOT at Immortal, and fired!!

Straker didn't stop. He pulled out his Railgun.

BLAM! BLAM!! BLAM!!! BLAM!!!!...

(The first 20 Magnum bullets ripped into Immortal. His body was continuously rocked by the number of bullets which absolutely sprayed into several parts of his body. To add to them, the huge King Shot literally tore a new hole across his body. 7 more thundering, charred bullets of the Railgun came through. He did his best to keep himself patched, but 37 HPs later, he was barely able to breathe, let alone survive. He was left with 46 HPs when he rolled down a small slope and moved out of sight.)

Straker was in a terrible mood. He was determined to cause as much damage as he could, and as soon as Immortal disappeared out of sight, he turned around to spot a new target in the distance, who was quietly healing himself away from all the action. Where the hell do you think you are going?, Straker thought fiercely and pulled up his Railgun. Aiming directly at the figure propped up against a rock, he squeezed the trigger repeatedly eight times!!

BLAM! BLAM!! BLAM!!! BLAM!!!!...

(FREDDYMYERS was alone, nursing his injuries. The charred bullets snarled at him as they tore through his body, as he was caught completely unaware. Quickly patching himself up as best as he could, he was left with 16 HPs when he slunk away from sight.)

Straker, quite clearly, wasn't done. He walked around to his right and almost immediately heard soft footsteps approaching from his front. He immediately lay down flat on the ground, covering the approaching person with his Railgun sights. And, just on impulse, he started squeezing the trigger eight times rapidly!!

BLAM! BLAM!! BLAM!!! BLAM!!!!...

(WEAPON X had heard all the shots and explosions in the distance, and had hurried there to do some hunting himself. Unfortunately, Straker came between him and his intended targets. The charred bullets bore through Weapon X's armor and drilled new holes in his body, as he fell back like a freshly-cut tree. 8 HPs came out to patch up, and Weapon X's HP tally went back to 45 HPs.)

STRAKER then dropped his now-empty Railgun, and took out his Desert Eagle. He then moved cautiously through the Zone till he entered SECTOR X. From a distance, LEATHERFACE watched him quietly, waiting till Straker came closer. As soon as Straker reached breathing distance, Leatherface sprung out, chainsaw revving hard!! Straker grabbed his Stalker Shield and lifted it to ward off Leatherface's numerous chainsaw attacks on him, and ran towards his right to jump into the river! The strong current pulled him away from Leatherface, and towards a safe part of Sector X.




ZERO slowly rocked himself back and forth, fighting off the stinging pain and soreness of his body. He had just survived an explosive attack by Straker on him, and it took all the effort from his paining muscles to lift himself and climb the tree in front of him. He moved slowly, then started swinging very slowly from one branch to another. In his mind, Zero knew who his target was. The Zone was an open area down below him, and after wandering slowly for a while from tree to tree, Zero finally spotted his quarry.

Zero licked his lips. This, is how I make you suffer, he thought grimly as he took out his .44 Magnum. He peered down again to make doubly sure his target was in his sights, aimed his Magnum, and started firing rapidly!!!

BLAM! BLAM!! BLAM!!! BLAM!!!! BLAM!!!!!...

(STRAKER's body had already taken a huge beating from ImmortalSlasher, and although he had survived Leatherface's vicious attack, he was totally sore and his body refused to budge as Zero's bullets thudded into it like streaks of meteor shower boring holes in the ground. 20 HPs came out to do their duty, but Straker had a nagging feeling Zero wasn't done yet.)

Yes, Zero wasn't done. Dropping the empty Magnum, Zero pulled out his Railgun!!!

BLAM! BLAM!! BLAM!!! BLAM!!!!...

(Straker was a sitting duck. His brain exploded with flashes of light which his eyes passed into it as visions of the blasting Railgun as the charred bullets drilled into him again and again and again. 30 HPs patched him up, and Straker wasn't the same by now. He looked like a brightly-lit, proud Christmas tree, in it's full crimson-red blooming glory. Only 6 HPs adorned his now near-empty HP bag.)

Zero had no intention of stopping what he had started. The Fireball flew!!!

(Straker let out a resigned sigh as he watched the huge fireball spit fire as it streaked through the air straight at him! Even in stinging, burning pain as his eyes grew heavy, he had to suppress a small laugh at the number of HPs left with him. No number is enough, these were the final words which burned through his brain as the fireball entered his chest and exploded inside it, sending steaming hot, splattered chunks of flesh all around the area, as Straker's eyes opened wide for just one fleeting moment, before rolling back into the welcoming darkness accompanying his dead brain.)


FINALIST STRAKER IS DEAD!!!!!!!


ZERO let out a loud, blood-curdling primate roar at the taste of blood, which resounded in that entire area of the Zone for quite some time. The redhead then moved into Section Y to hide, where he remained safe.




WEAPON X was quiet. He had fixed targets in his mind, but the attack by Straker had changed some of his initial plans. He had heard shots ringing from his left, and proceeded towards the source of those sounds. A huge clearing opened in front of him, where FREDDYMYERS lay, nursing his wounds quietly. Weapon X stopped moving, became absolutely still, as his hands moved quickly to bring the .44 Magnum out!!!!

BLAM! BLAM!! BLAM!!! BLAM!!!! BLAM!!!!!...

(20 Magnum bullets pierced their way through the air to worm into Freddy's body hungrily. Freddy, who had already been attacked twice, tried to dodge the bullets weakly but could merely murmur once. His remaining 16 HPs weren't good enough to patch him up, even though they tried his best. His body was wracked with spasms, as his strong heart tried it's best to keep his dying brain alive.[/i])

Weapon X sensed the kill, and went for it. Out came the Plasma Cannon.

SHRACKTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!

The plasma bolt shook the leaves as it left a huge blue streak in the air, darting towards FreddyMyers. It thundered straight through Freddy's chest, immediately blasting a hole through it and exploding out of his back, deep-frying his lungs and his heart in a moment!!!!


FINALIST FREDDYMYERS IS DEAD!!!!!!!


Weapon X drummed both his fists on his chest in a moment of absolute Predator-esque joy, but suddenly stopped still as he heard running footsteps in the distance. At the chance of pouncing on another target, he immediately swirled around and ran after them. The runner was weak, and dripped blood. Weapon X soon caught up with the running figure ahead of him, and his KING SHOT flew!!!!

BLAMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!

(IMMORTALSLASHER knew he wasn't safe, so was moving from place to place. Unluckily for him, Weapon X had heard his footsteps and now he was going to pay. The King Shot sprayed on his back as he went flying forward. 10 HPs came out immediately to do their duty, as he turned towards his attacker.)

Weapon X gritted his teeth, and pulled up THE CHAKRA. The blades started spinning furiously, as the Chakra emitted a low whine as if charging up. Weapon X let it fly!

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!

Like a silent UFO droning on the sky, the Chakra sped towards Immortal, it's extremely sharp steel blade glinting in the pale sunlight. Immortal opened his mouth to let out a loud scream, but was literally cut short as the Chakra cut through his neck, neatly severing his head from his body!!!!!


FINALIST IMMORTALSLASHER IS DEAD!!!!!!!


WEAPON X let out a loud war-cry, absolutely delighted at two simultaneous kills. He then packed up and ran straight into Sector Y, where he remained safe.

Welcome, both of you, to your 15TH and FINAL Battle Royale IV Challenge.


You both have to answer the following question to the best of your ability, depending upon your knowledge of the genre:

BATTLE ROYALE IV - RESULTS OF THE FINAL CHALLENGE


Welcome Weapon X and Zero, to your 15TH & FINAL Battle Royale Results Meeting.

The Challenge was :-

If you had to choose *ONE* film from the 2000s (the year 2000 - now) as a true modern classic in the veins of the mighty horror classics from the late 60s, 70s & early 80s, which one would it be and why?


The first entry came from WEAPON X.

My choice would be the explosive double feature, Grindhouse (2007) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0462322/).

Now why would I choose a film that tanked at the BO and came under criticism from genre fans of being too long and slow?

Simply because, films from that golden era of horror moviemaking (late 60s, 70s and early 80s) represented freedom - freedom from the bondage of conventional, repetitive cinema dictated by studios and churned out by loyal studio honchos year in and year out. Although studios such as Hammer in the UK had already set the independent trend about 10 years ago than those times, but Hollywood got it's young, independent and film-loving horror film makers/fans from the time Night of the Living Dead released. A young George A. Romero lead the pack with his minimalistic budget, superbly innovative film which showed a lot of societal trends of those times in his film. Symbolism was very much present throughout NotLD, and was it's single biggest draw.

The Grindhouse movement of the 70s emerged from the shadows of such films as NotLD, The Exorcist, Jaws, etc., which were made by major studios but their driving force were fierce, young filmmakers who dared to go beyond conventional norms with their independent thinking and beyond-conventional execution, which established horror as a strong genre in it's own right. Independent filmmakers with modest budgets came out to make films in the way they pleased, and although they were raw in their execution and editing, appealed to a section of the audiences who frequented the smaller, dirty, smelly theaters who played them with their damaged, used projectors and scratchy prints.

Grindhouse is a tribute to that era of independence in the horror genre. It has everything which viewers of those times used to sit and watch in their down-trodden, cheap films - nudity, sex, extreme violence, weird and bizarre ideas, complete campy entertainment at it's cheapest best, which existed beyond the boundaries of traditional society of those times. Although the 2007 film was made on a much, much bigger budget than those films from the 70s, the makers ensured that the audiences had a complete Grindhouse-esque experience by inserting a whole bunch of fake trailers, the infamous "missing-reel", cheap-looking production values, and outlandish costumes/characters with eye-rolling names - Cherry Darling, El Wray, Muldoon, Hague, Stuntman Mike, Jungle Julia, etc. etc. To their credit, most of the fake trailers turned out to be exceptional - Werewolf Women of the SS and Thanksgiving being the best of the lot. This was supposed to be an event, creating the magic of an era long gone by. That's why the makers had rightly highlighted Grindhouse as "an experience, a sleaze-filled saga of an exploitative double feature."

The two features themselves, Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror and Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof, are near-perfect examples of the 70's Grindhouse cinema, although being contrasting examples of each other. Rodriguez's Planet Terror defies any sort of explanation by having a female lead with a machine gun for a leg. Sample this - Biochemical weapon infects a town – turning its citizens into flesh-eating zombies – and it can only be saved by a vigilante Go-Go poledancer. It is a series of relentless action sequences which border on being absurd, yuckily gorific and maniacal which make it a sheer delight to watch. In a moment of perfect timing when the two leads are ready to scorch the screen with their burning hot sexual chemistry, the infamous "missing reel" is inserted, as if the reel itself has been completely worn out by being played over and over again in those nights of the 70s by horny projectionists and audiences alike. Planet Terror is a perfect example of a raw film project affected by outlandish ideas galore, yet somehow manages to bring it all together nicely and actually clicks!

The second feature, Tarantino's Death Proof, starts off really slowly. And this is where the whole "event" gets affected. After the superbly pacy Planet Terror with it's waves of explosive violence, Death Proof breaks the pace and brings in a bit of monotonous slowness to the proceedings. By the time Stuntman Mike arrives on the scene to take over from Planet Terror's mad dashes, the momentum of the "event" has been dashed. Tarantino is guilty of bringing in seriousness to a plate which had, till then, been a long sequence of outlandish, screaming delights onscreen. Still, Mike injects his own version of maniacal madness by introducing his weapon of killing, his "death proof" car.

We are then treated to two wonderful scenes which should be etched in movie-making history in their own rights - an explosive car smash which results in a jaw-dropping multiple death scene, and an adrenaline-pumping car chase sequence which reminds us of films such as Vanishing Point, Death Race, et al, from the exploitative era. Sadly, it does come after long drawn-out sequences of unnecessary dialogue and characters interaction which do take out a bit from the final punch which Grindhouse tries to deliver in it's final 20-odd minutes.

What the makers could have improved on, is to shorten Tarantino's Death Proof and have it played first before Planet Terror, and in that way the rush of the car chase sequences of Death Proof could have become brilliant harbingers of the madcap, out-of-control energetic glee to arrive in Planet Terror. But ultimately, Death Proof's shortcomings are trivial, because Grindhouse works as it was intended to! It is an excellent homage to that cheapie era of the 70s, which produced trashy cinema with it's own huge cult followings, and out of those are films which we have recognised as genre giants today. What it does, is create that ultimate experience, that incredible ride which each grindhouse feature of the 70s/80s delivered. Watching it in the theaters creates that perfect atmosphere which every grindhouse era film has successfully done - create an atmosphere for it's audience. A true classic in every right, Grindhouse deserves a spot beside the genre-storming classics of the late 60s, 70s and early 80s which carved their own paths to glory in their eras.

I give this a 37. The analysis of the film is apt, but in the end, the film itself is meant as an homage to a bygone era, and has not had a great effect on the genre.

Judge #2's verdict -

I see the Challenge as having two parts:
Select a movie from the 2000's that is a "Modern Classic"
This movie must be in the vein of the mighty horror classics from the late 60s, 70s & early 80s

So, in grading this challenge, I looked at both of those elements in my assessment and gave them 25 points a piece.

I don't believe that this contestant truly made an argument that Grindhouse is a Modern Classic in the vein of being culturally and cinematically important. In fact, he conceded that it wasn't particularly popular. I believe that there is a difference between what is considered a "Cult Classic" and a "Modern Classic" and Grindhouse falls into the former category. The contestant nods that it is an homage, but I believe that this film is only a "classic" to the genre fan, not a "Modern Classic" that can span across audiences. Grindhouse is too esoteric to be considered a "Modern Classic." The "Classic" that the entrant describes is more through the fan's perspective; this movie is "classic" because it reflects what Grindhouse movies used to be, not because it's necessarily enduring piece of modern cinema. Points were given, however, to the argument of the independent movie being the birth of to the sub-genre of Grindhouse (interesting comment about Classics like Exorcist and Jaws being the inadvertant birther of Grindhouse since this genre was to defy the popular films). I like this ascertion: "Grindhouse is a tribute to that era of independence in the horror genre," which illustrates the importance of Grindhouse, however.

That being said, this contestant was clearly had the latter half of the challenge in mind, "in the vein of of the mighty horror classics from the late 60s, 70s & early 80s," being that Grindhouse films were certainly a cult sub-genre during that period, but in terms of "Classics" during that period, Grindhouse doesn't come to mind (what comes to mind - Late 60's: Night of the Living Dead, Rosemary's Baby, 70's: The Exorcist, Jaws, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Carrie, Omen, Halloween and Early 80's: The Shining, The Thing, Evil Dead I and II, Nightmare on Elm Street). We're truly looking at an argument for a Cult Classic of Cult Classics, not what I would consider a "Modern Classic." However, I appreciate the mind to the challenge at hand, which did include addressing movies of that time period.

Horror remains remarkably popular. In spite of short lulls in which unimaginative retreads of popular films dominate the genre (the endless sequels, remakes, rip-offs), it seems that every few years a new vision of horror emerges to reinvigorate interest in the genre.

While several important films have debuted in the past twelve years, I choose James Wan’s 2004 film Saw as my nominee for a classic. In supporting this choice, I will begin by defining what I think makes a film a “classic,” and then suggest the ways Saw meets this definition.

To begin, there are literally thousands of horror films that have been produced. While we all have our particular tastes and favorites within the genre, I think for a film to be regarded as a classic, it must demonstrate substantial cultural and cinematic influence. Thought of in this way, “classic” films are those which reach out beyond the hard-core horror fans and impact the wider culture. The horror fan-base may know that Bob Clark’s Black Christmas predated John Carpenter’s Halloween but for the wider population, it is Carpenter’s film that perfected the slasher genre. In part because of this wider popularity, “classic” films have a substantial influence on the genre itself. Take, for example, the great-grandfather of the genre, Dracula (1931). While a bit of an improbable hit – the film is, after all, a bit stagy and at times even awkward – if it were not for the phenomenal success of Dracula, there would not have been Frankenstein or Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1931) or, likely, any of the other films of that first golden age of the “Universal monsters.” The same could be said about Romero’s Night of the Living Dead which, while not the first ‘gore-fest’ film (predated, for example, by Herschell Gordon Lewis), clearly introduced a new era of horror films that opened the door for the films of the 1970s like Last House on the Left, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and It’s Alive.

So, to make my argument, I need to demonstrate that Saw had both cultural and cinematic influence.

The argument for Saw’s cultural impact can begin by observing the amazing box office success. The film was made for about $1.2 million and in its initial release grossed $55million in the US and a worldwide total of more than $102 million. Box office alone, of course, does not prove cultural influence but it does suggest that a wider audience (not just horror fans) were being lured into the theater because somehow Saw was offering something different.

It is worth speculating about why Saw felt meaningful to audiences in 2004. In his recent book Dark Dreams 2.0: A Psychological History of the Modern Horror Film, Charles Derry calls Saw “the first genuinely post-9/11 horror film.” (311) This seems right to me. Released just three years after the cultural trauma of 9/11, Saw seems to deal with issues that connected to the wider post-9/11 world. Things were perceived as grittier, the world more dangerous, the option to remain noble less viable. Post-9/11, Americans were faced with a seemingly more violent and brutal world and with the simple question – “How far will you go to survive?” Would we wage war in foreign countries, detain prisoners without trials, would we torture others, kill innocents? This was not, of course, the first time Americans (and by proxy the world) was faced with such a choice but the spectacle of 9/11 made the confrontation more direct and unavoidable.

In its own way, Saw poses the viewer with the same question – how far would we go to survive? Reversing the typical ‘stalk-and-slash’ horror formula that had remained popular since the 1970s, Saw begins with our hero trapped. The struggle is not to avoid the killer but to survive the terror that has already arrived – another way in which the film connected to 9/11. Now, to be clear, I am not suggesting that James Wan said, “hey, I’ll make a 9/11 film” or that audiences sat in the theater and said, “hey, that’s just like American in a post-9/11 world!” But, just as audiences in the midst of Vietnam and the Civil Rights era saw something in Romero’s Night of the Living Dead that seemed somehow ‘real’ and ‘meaningful,’ so too did audiences viewing Saw. And in this way, Saw rose above just being a horror film (even a popular horror film) to becoming an important cultural moment for its generation.

The other way to measure its importance is to consider the impact Saw had on the genre. While Saw clearly borrows from earlier films – notably the inclusion of several giallo elements – its success gave rise to “torture porn” in the early 2000s. Saw spawned its own set of sequels (the quality of which should not diminish the importance of the first film) but also numerous American films (Hostel, Turistas, Captivity) and opened the door for increasingly violent, gore-filled foreign films like Wolf Creek, Martyrs, and The Human Centipede.

At this point, the torture-porn era seems to have waned and the haunted house has returned as the focal point of contemporary horror (Paranormal Activity, Insidious, etc.) but there can be little doubt that much of the horror released in the first several years of the 21st Century was deeply influenced by James Wan’s Saw. For this reason, I will argue that it will long be understood as a classic of our era.


Judge #1's verdict -

Though I personally don't care for the film, this entrant made a convincing case for considering it a modern classic. Both cultural significance and effect on the genre are well stated. Took off a single point for ignoring the popularity of silent horror films such as Phantom of the Opera or Hunchback of Notre Dame as early icons of horror.

Judge #2's verdict -

I see the Challenge as having two parts:
Select a movie from the 2000's that is a "Modern Classic"
This movie must be in the vein of the mighty horror classics from the late 60s, 70s & early 80s

So, in grading this challenge, I looked at both of those elements in my assessment and gave them 25 points a piece.

I completely agree with his definition of the word "Classic;" that the movie must "demonstrate substantial cultural and cinematic influence" (not to mention have staying power) and I believe that he argued well that Saw had substantial cultural and cinematic impact. I also thought that the comparison between Halloween and Black Christmas in this vein was very astute (demonstrating that Halloween is the "Classic" in that it bridges the gap between the horror fan and the general audience. I thought that the connection to 9/11 was poignant and interesting.

He loses some points as I think that, while he hits "Modern Classic" on the head, he misses the latter half of the challenge which is "in the veins of the mighty horror classics from the late 60s, 70s & early 80s." I think that an argument could be made that Saw does fit into this vein in that one could argue that it created a new exploitation sub-genre (though "torture porn" was coined for Hostel in particular, I agree with the candidate that Saw was its earlier and just as popular predecessor), but the contestant doesn't get there directly. There are astude allusions to influencial films within that time period (Halloween, Night of the Living Dead), so he gets some points for that. I also like the parallel between the cultural significance of NOTLD and Saw.

RESULTS OF THE FINAL HUNTING ZONE OUTING


*reporting from watching the camera recordings on a portable tablet inside a helicopter, together with THREE survivors, flying away from the exploding Battle Royale island sinking fast into the deep ends of the ocean*



THE FINAL REPORT:

As soon as the Zone gates closed, ZERO immediately disappeared between a huge clump of trees. He had a specific plan in mind but wasn't ready to confront his final opponent just yet.

WEAPON X roamed around, all his senses on the alert. Not only he had to worry about Zero, but this time IT The Traveler himself had joined them as the designated Stalker! The fate of ___V___ and all of HDC hung in the balance, and it was imperative that either Zero or him, or both, had to be successful together.

"Psst! Over here!" a silent voice urged at him silently from above.

Weapon X looked up. Zero had the BFG in his hand.

Weapon X lifted his hand to release the FIREBALL spell.

Time froze, for a long instant. But only a second had passed before the silence broke.

"Hold up!" Zero hissed. "I have spotted IT!"

"Where?" Weapon X's tense hands relaxed.

"Follow me." Zero swung through the branches.

Weapon X, with a nagging doubt, followed the redhead simian at a distance, hands at the ready.

As soon as they reached a huge clearing, with a waterfall away on their right surrounded by clumps of trees on all sides, Weapon X could make out a light shining on the waterfall's right. He glanced at Zero up above, who had stopped moving, staring intently at the same light.

"Let's hit IT. Hard. Together." Zero's voice was determined, but quivering as well.

Weapon X didn't blame him. Who knew if they could cause any sort of damage to IT, or maybe get vaporised immediately as soon as they came within IT's sights?

But, they had no other option.

Weapon X nodded, silently. Zero started moving again, this time a lot more slowly. Weapon X crawled and hurried through the bushes and shrubs, trying to keep himself out of sight of the light ahead.

The light suddenly dimmed for a moment, then started to burn brightly. So brightly that the leaves on the trees wilted, and Weapon X had to cover his eyes.

Zero was surprisingly calm. He had spotted IT's double mounted plasma cannons, and invoked an IMMOBILIZER spell to fire directly at IT!

BHRACKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!

The huge yellow flame hit the plasma cannon barrel on IT's right shoulder, and the huge explosion afterwards blinded everything in the area. Zero closed his eyes and opened them again, this time letting out an audible gasp!

IT The Traveler hung in mid-air, no evidence of even a scratch on IT's body! Worse still, IT's plasma cannons were completely undamaged, and were squarely trained on ZERO!!

"Ulppp!" Zero's mouth went dry.

The plasma bolt came screaming through the branches of the tree Zero was hanging on and exploded with all it's might on Zero's chest, making him lose his balance and go flying towards the ground!

IT glared at the shooter, just as Weapon X turned his right arm towards IT. His plasma cannon was already aimed directly at IT's head, at the centre of the pulsating blue orb.

THRACKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!

The plasma bolt flew and thundered straight into IT's head orb, exploding with the energy of a million stars. IT suddenly staggered in mid-air, his head orb flickering once.

Yes! That's it! The thought screamed through Weapon X's head.

Almost immediately, his plasma cannon shaped up to fire it's final round. And Weapon X let it fly.

THRACKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!

The second bolt screamed through the air, exploding again on the pulsating orb, making it flicker badly yet again! IT staggered again, swirling slightly towards the ground.

Zero! Are you seeing this?! The words burned into Weapon X's mind, but he couldn't turn around to check on his fellow Finalist's plight. He had to keep going.

He immediately dropped his plasma cannon and conjured up his FIREBALL spell to train it on IT, but IT had disappeared!!

Weapon X's eyes scanned the area wildly for a moment, just as a groan from the bushes on his right diverted his attention. Still in dread of the BFG, and not sure if Zero realised that the plasma cannon shot had actually saved him from IT's wrath, Weapon X trained his already-conjured FIREBALL at the red furry thing inside the bushes.

BRRRRRRRTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!

The Fireball had a short distance to fly. Zero, already weakened somewhat by the plasma bolt, never had the chance to even think of anything as the Fireball blasted on his chest, making him go flying backwards, his fur up in flames! He thundered onto the stem of a thick tree and fell down heavily, trying to douse the flames with his HPs. Zero rolled backwards deliberately, down a slope to move out of Weapon X's sights.

A huge blast from up ahead made Weapon X swing around and jump to his right at the same instant, to dodge twin plasma cannon bolts which had flew in his direction. Weapon X had immediately conjured up another FIREBALL spell, and it roared towards IT's pulsating orb yet again!

BRRRRRRRTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!

The Fireball blasted on IT's orb, making IT swirl hard. The orb flickered madly this time, being struck for the third time. IT roared in pain and anger, and turned it's glowing eyes directly at Weapon X, who was reaching at his shotgun.

"TOO LATE!" IT's voice boomed in the entire region.

SSSSSMMMMMKKKKKTTTTT!!!!!

The trio of pulsating, flaming skulls burned a streak through the air as they thundered towards the blue orb on IT's head, exploding with the might of an absolute bomb and rocking IT badly. Weapon X turned around, eyes widened in wonder and surprise.

"Need some help?", Zero smiled weakly before gritting his teeth.

Weapon X turned back towards IT, conjuring up his final FIREBALL spell. He didn't let IT recover for even a moment.

BRRRRRRRTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!

The Fireball almost burnt a hole through IT's orb, and IT careened wildly towards the ground. His orb was now a naked target, and Zero took over.

SSSSSMMMMMKKKKKTTTTT!!!!!

SSSSSMMMMMKKKKKTTTTT!!!!!

The extremely destructive Skullstorm spells thundered through the air, burning their way into IT's orb, making it change it's colors - from blue, into bright green, into glowing red, and finally a dim yellow. IT fell on the ground, the light around him dimming into a low glow, as a yellow-green liquid dripped out of IT's nostrils.

Now, the KO, Zero thought fiercely. The IMMOBILIZER suddenly sprung into his palm. And Zero let it fly, straight at IT's dimming orb.

BHRACKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!

The moment the Immobilizer captured IT in it's invisible shell, IT's eyes widened. IT gasped for a moment as if grabbing for it's breath, as the spell sucked IT's final breaths. IT roared.

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!" The inhuman cry pierced through the whole Zone, shaking it everywhere.

IT's cry kept echoing as IT stood still for a moment, just before IT's body exploded into a million pieces of shining, pulsating light!!!



IT THE TRAVELER IS DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!




Zero let out a loud yell of victorious delight, but the sudden sound of Weapon X's voice made him swirl around.

"Zero!" Weapon X's voice was cold, yet filled with a tinge of admiration. He had the shotgun in his hand.

Zero stood very still, without turning. He spoke slowly, making the words sink into Weapon X's ears one by one.

"I...didn't...forget...you, FRIEND!" Zero's voice was ominously calm as he turned to face Weapon X. And Weapon X held his breath for one last moment.

For Zero held the BFG 9000.

BBBBBBBBBBLLLLLLLLLLRRRRRRRRRRTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!


The huge blue plasma shell burnt through the scene in front of Zero, burning through grasses, trees, leaves, branches, rocks, water, everything. Weapon X was dust even before his brain had a chance to realise it.




WEAPON X IS DEAD!!!!!!!




Zero dropped the BFG 9000. Something broke through the stillness of the sky above him, and a figure fell towards the ground and thudded heavily on it.

"AT LAST! FREEDOM!! FINALLY!!! FOREVER!!!!" The figure yelled as soon as he got up. Zero squinted at him to see more clearly and instantly recognised who it was.

It was _____V_____!


And his mouth was wide open in surprise!


"YOU! YOU SURVIVED?!!!!" ___V___ was staring at Zero in disbelief.

"Who else did you expect? Elvis?" Zero smirked at _____V_____.


A loud rumble started all over the Zone and the ground started to shake. Rocks dislodged from their places and rolled downwards, some of them hurtling towards the two.

"Come on! Quick! We must hurry!" ___V___'s voice was desperate.

The two jumped through the bushes and ran towards the gates, just as the ground started erupting below them and huge gushes of molten lava blasted through, burning everything around it.

"Run, run, run!" Zero urged ___V___ on.

"Follow me". ____V___'s voice had a steely determination in it, nodding forward.

Zero followed ___V___'s gaze.

Standing in the distance on a huge helipad, was a helicopter.

___V___ looked around from checking on Dara & Hammerfan. The huge Battle Royale island was receding in the distance, rocked by eruptions and explosions as it continued to sink into the ocean.

"Nope, I didn't. In fact," ___V___ pulled out a bag from the storage section behind him,"I was planning on giving it to you as soon as we landed."

Out came the shining Battle Royale crown. ___V___ was smiling as he crowned the redhead for the second time. He tipped his head, apparently taking a small bow.

Zero saw the admiration in ___V___'s eyes and smiled.

"Hail to the king! Hail to the Simian king, indeed!" ___V___'s words rang out.

Zero's smile froze midway for a moment.

"Say ___V___, now that IT's history, are you sure we won't have Galactus coming to hold HDC hostage and force us into a cooking contest or something?"

___V___'s eyes widened in alarm for a moment, but then shrunk immediately as his mouth opened for peals of laughter. Zero's seriousness was gone as soon as it had come, and he joined in the hearty laughter which rocked the helicopter.

A BIG thanks to all 20 participants (and the two immediate replacements - Ferretchucker and Nightmare_Of_Death) for making BR IV a success. Special thanks to the 2 reps because they were ready and willing to take over immediately (from Dara's & hammerfan's position) and so I was spared from searching for other replacements, especially during HDC's lull period.

Thank you, Marley's Ghost, for producing such wonderful tombstones through the years for all of Battle Royale's iterations, adding a touch of aristocratic flair to the deaths (exits) of all the participants of BR from 2008 to 2012. Great work!

And last but not the least at all, the immensely talented and insightful Judges of the Final Challenge, whose completely impartial, insightful and wonderful judgements helped immensely in choosing the Winner of BR IV. A crown much deserved (yet again) which went to our resident redhead simian, Zero. In case you couldn't deduce who they were from their criticisms/scores, Judge #1 was our very esteemed HDC-ian, neverending, and Judge #2 was our much-respected resident HDC Idol, Chronogrl. Thank you.

HDC Battle Royale is now FINALLY, COMPLETELY, TOTALLY closed. There will be no more iterations of it (sorry, folks!) in the years to come. It did it's part in HDC's history, now it's only fitting that the recurring Chapter of HDC Battle Royale is closed, and it signs out when it is still on a high.
