I have already written about 'Van Helsing' in previous messages but in this occasion I would like to say something about the original perfomance of the Australia born actor Richard Roxburgh as Count Dracula.
There have been many and various kinds of playing this terrible character, from Bela Lugosi to Christopher Lee, to whom I really consider as the best Dracula, with Richard Roxburgh, of course. Although I must admit that there are big differences between them, Richard has added another and original version of the Vampire. First of all, his look, which is absolutely contrasting with all those ones already seen in the big screen. Richard looks like a gipsy but in a sexy way, with elegant manners and sexy appeal. Another thing is that in Val Helsing, Dracula seems to be more human than other films, in which the Count gives the impression of being supernatural and not human at all. Even at the end of this film, the Count shows his humanity (if it can be called human to a coward killer whose need for blood and sex, and just for his own pleasure, forces him to do whatever he wants to get everything). But in general, something can be said about this character, it is more human and not so impressive as in other films.
Finally the perfomance of Richard is really good and sometimes very funny, specially while fighting against Van Helsing, at the end of the movie. Never have I seen such a funny vampire.
