I had a lousy breakfast this morning. I usually have a healthy breakfast since I'm trying to lose weight, but I had a handful of pretzel crisps and a cup of coffee. Lunch will be a Smart Ones entree because I'm going to look at an apartment on my lunch hour.

I actually drove by a Burger King on my lunch break today, and I was so tempted to go get a couple cheeseburgers. I don't eat fast food either, but it smelled so good driving by.

We call it "Hungry Jacks" here in it's franchise form.
Though at a point we had both - the only difference was, the actual Burger King branded one had a burger called a "Big King" which was like their version of the Big Mac. IMO they did a better job. Really liked it.

we had a bunch of people over for St Patricks day and made a few corned beefs....3 of them were boiled [ traditional ] and one we tried a bit different.

you take a flat brisket corned beef....cover it with brown sugar on both sides...place in casserole dish...pour 2 bottles of Guinness in and bake in a 340 oven for 2 1/2 hours.

it came out great but for the record...most people seemed to like the boiled better. Worth a try though and very easy.

Never was a fan of corned beef. I might have to try it again, though. Since I quit smoking, I've found that there are foods that I never liked that I like now, and vice versa.

Took the lady out for dinner for her birthday.
We went to an Indian restaraunt.

Got some pappadams with carraway seeds in them
Some cucumber raita, some mint sauce, a side dish of diced tomatoes onions and corriander, a masala tea, she had something called a chocolate lassi that didn't seem to have any chocolate in it though somehow tasted like a good approximation, one plain naan bread, one with garlic and parsley, a few starters including a vegetarian pakora, and some chicken tikka.
Some nicely done rice, served with a mild lamb curry with tomato onion and capsicum called bhuna Gosht, butter (aka makhani) chicken, and some palak paneer which is a spinach dish with cooked ?cheese? (bit like haloumi) which was just crazy awesome.
Had some mango khulfi for dessert which is close to what we call ice cream but a bit different in texture.

Really nice meal. Totally stuffed.

The cafeteria at work has stuffed grape leaves in the salad bar, which makes me incredibly happy.

Anyone else here like stuffed grape leaves? Typically when I get them, my coworkers look at them in disgust: "What the hell IS that?!"

But they're so, so yummy...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolma

I had them with my "usual" sandwich made by Nancy, the sandwich lady:

Roast beef with mozzarella, caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato and horseradish mayo on a tomato wrap. Sliced pickles. Ruffles on the side.

Yeah chrono - they get called "vine leaves" here, though I always assumed they might be from something like a grapevine. I find them to be hit and miss - they need to have the right balance of acidity I'd say. There's a lebanese restaurant in Sydney that's been open for 40+ years, and holy shit, they just do the best ever vine leaves.

Last night I made something like a nachos.

Used jalapeno & aged cheddar flavoured corn chips.

Fried up some sliced beef, chopped onions and sliced sundried tomato in some garlic salt, pepper, and cumin.
Added a little Neapolitan sauce, and habanero paste.

Threw that on the cornchips, added some vegetarian cheese and some mozarella, into the flavourwave oven it went.

While I did that...
Fried some chorizo and sliced it, doused it in lemon juice.
Chopped cherry tomatoes.
Added salt/pepper.
Threw in some coleslaw salad (no dressing) with celery, corn and spring onions.
Mixed that all together, into I guess a strange salsa type thing.

When the cheese melted and browned, I took the hot part of the dish out.
Put the aforementioned mixture on top with some light sour cream.

Had some lemonade that I made in the sodastream machine, with minimal syrup and actual lemon juice squeezed in. Nice. Tasted "real".

However. Today I had a *cough* 15 dollar chicken tender basket at six flags which really pisses me off because in the past the basket had 6 tenders, a ton of fries, and a really good southern style biscuit. Home cooked meat pie.
Here you go guys, I'll just give you the recipe.

Ingredients

800g diced chuck beef
½ cup plain flour
3 Tbsp vegetable oil
2 white onions, finely sliced
2 cloves garlic, finely sliced
½ bunch thyme, chopped
4 Tbsp tomato paste
1 cup red wine
1L beef stock
1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
2 Tbsp cornflour
4 Tbsp water
2 sheets puff pastry
1 egg, beaten
Salt and pepper, to season

Toss beef in flour.

Heat half the oil in a large saucepan over a high heat.

Add half the beef and cook, until well browned and
beginning to stick to bottom of pan.

Remove and repeat with remaining oil and beef.
Set aside.

Add onion, garlic and thyme to pan and cook
until onion has slightly softened.

Add beef and tomato paste
and cook briefly, then pour in wine, stock and
Worcestershire sauce.

Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 2 hours,
stirring occasionally, or until meat is tender.
Mix cornflour with water in a jug, then whisk into pan.
Simmer until thickened, then season with salt and pepper.
Remove from heat and set aside.

Preheat oven to 200c (392 ºF)

Fill each pastry/case with cooled beef mixture
(about ½ cup per tin).

Cut pastry lids to size.
then brush one side with egg. Arrange 1 round on top of
each pie, egg-side down. Press down and crimp with
fingertips to seal. Brush tops lightly with egg.

Using a small sharp knife, cut a small steam vent on top
of each pie. Bake for 30 minutes or until pastry is
deep golden and flaky.

are you on a diet?

I don't like to call it dieting. I prefer to call it a lifestyle change. But, yes, I do need to drop about 50 lbs. When I quit smoking I let my eating get out of control, and it's time to get it back in check.

Had a Smart Ones Shrimp and Linguini for lunch.

wonder if you mix ephedrine and alcohol, who'd win?

I'm not a huge fan of mcdonals or any fastfood after seeing all the garbage at the rest areas it's discusting. But I do get my cravings for it. I actually wouldn't mind fast food right now. But I can't put it in my budget right now. I ate out at KFC the other day though.
