I'm sure it's something thats already been thought about, but I figured I would mention it anyway. I personally feel that NE's account should be locked in some way or deleted or basically put in a state where he can reclaim it if he chooses at a later date. His mod privilages could be revoked if necessary.... I have nothing against wicker and if she is chosen and wants to be a moderator then her account can be promoted along with the others.

I wasn't sure at first but after thinking it over I'll step up. I've been on here awhile now through the good times and the bad and would like an active part in steering this place back to it's former glory.

I was a mod on a smaller board over here awhile back so I've had a bit of experience. I'd do my best to be objective, fair and not hold grudges or get on some sort of digital powertrip.

Good people have put their name forward so it's looking like HDC will be in the right hands and hopefully we can come out of this recent unpleasantness and get the joint running on a positive level.

To be honest the only reason I didn't mention you Cheebs is your life... you've had this vet stuff going on, you've got a new family, and you always seems to come and go (understandably) because of how busy you are. I joined this forum in 2005, and back then it was pretty much booming. There were lots of active members and lots of active threads, tournaments, lists being created, and so on. However, after about 2008 or so, it just went more on the decline. We had a couple periods with lots of shit-stirring new members that gunked stuff up and made a lot of great members leave. Some regulars just got busy with other stuff. Finally, we had all the recent drama which caused V, certainly the hardest-working HDC member ever, and NE to leave. So hopefully the rest of us can pull this place back up and into a thriving community once again. We shall see.

I also made a special facebook account so I could keep in touch with the HDC folk in my life. It's working out pretty good but I would still like to see this forum come back to life. It's only a small movement of my finger and presto...I'm on HDC.

Yep, sure seems like in a lot of cases there's no detail too private or inane for someone to feel like they should mention to everyone.
That and the whole picture whore thing - I'm pretty sure before facebook etc, for most people taking 100+ pictures of themselves/family within a month wasn't really a normal thing to do...I will never put a precious baby photo of my child on there, I will never feel the need to share family memories with anyone but those who have/will actually meet us. As for holiday and "watch us drink" pics, always seem a bit lame and "lookit me!! comment on how cool I am!!!"

I don't even use facebook. I've only been there on the rare occasion to check some company posting pics of new products. It's a pointless site to me. I guess the people that use it enjoy or don't care about giving companies their private information so that company and others can make money off of them.

Facebook, like everything else in life is nothing more or less than you you, as an individual make of it.

In my year on facebook I've won a hardback copy of Stephen King's "Full Dark, No Stars" and a hardback edition of a Neal Gaiman book, as well as three paperbacks of independent authors, all autographed. How did I win them? Trivia contests or other puzzle games.

I've befriended, and had personal, one on one conversations with Frank Hennenlotter, David Hess (just a few days before he died, RIP), Peter Strauss, Pee Wee Herman, George Takai, Wil Wheaton, and other less well known luminaries that were still exciting for me to make contact with.

Every single story I've sold so far has been because of a contact I made on facebook, and I expect many more.

Unlike forums, you're not forced to endure prattle from anyone you're not interested in. The reasons you say you use facebook don't sound like what I was referring to at all? If it's serviceable to you, do your thing. They sound like perfectly valid reasons I wouldn't poke fun at...which is why, I didn't include those kinds of things in my "list".
That said, the population I was referring to can do their thing too - because nothing I say about them or their activities needs to effect their lives.

Yeah, we're still waiting on ElGato to reply. zwoti's going to also ask him about getting a new admin, but he says the answer will almost certainly be "no". Which is really frustrating. It's insane to have a forum with no active admins. As we can see with this mod thing, it takes forever to get anything done.

Some advice for the new mods:

If you're going to have a successful run here, the first thing you'll want to do is decide on what rules you're going to follow. Decide them, sticky them and make sure you're all on board to follow them to the letter, regardless of the feelings around the forum. If a rule provokes outrage, review it and change it if necessary, but don't let a couple of old timers sway you if it's not. A big part of the failure of your current group (myself included) was the failure to decide on a set of realistic guidelines to enforce. It caused a lot of separation in our group and a lot of drama. If the members call you out, have a spine but not a big head. It's a thankless, unpaid job that you use your recreational time to do. The same members who applaud you for banning a troll one day will want your head the next for banning a friend/locking a thread.

To our members:

This isn't a fun job. It's unpaid, mostly thankless and done on our own time. We have a duty to you to make the forum a pleasant place to populate for both old and new members alike. For the most part, the mods do their best to make decisions based on the rules of the forum. As you have probably have noticed, there really aren't any. Be kind to your mods, but don't be afraid to call them out if they need it.

All in all, this is a really nice forum with a lot of fun people. I've made some friends here. I've been absent for a variety of reasons, but a lot has to do with what is outlined above. I've really enjoyed my time moderating/contributing to this community. However, if it's going to continue to thrive, there has to be some semblance of consistency with what is/isn't tolerated. Trust me; I deal with enough red tape in real life working for a large corporation that I'm all about reducing idiotic bureaucracy. That being said, there needs to be at least some semblance of order to the way we conduct our protocol. If the members here wanted 4chan, they would be there instead.
