What I'd Like To Do

I've had a few days to think about this whole situation, and this is what I'd like to do.

In the interest of fairness, I think it would be best to relinquish the 'mod by proxy' account at the end of the year. Members who are interested in becoming a moderator can PM me, and we can have an election on November 1 to choose which of those that volunteered would be the best choice. You can PM your choice throughout the month, and on December 1, I will announce the winner and hand over the mod account to him/her.

What's the consensus?

I Agree with Newb... Either keep the account and say that is what you are doing or put it up for a vote sooner rather than later. I see no reason to wait until November.

And with respect, if you plan on 'taking a stab' at the job until November then really why wouldnt you just carry on anyway? Maybe when November rolls around we should start a rota and everyone who wants to take a stab at it can have a 9 month run first.... In the interests of fairness.

On a side note, since this is thread has bought up this whole issue again, which I have pretty much bitten my tongue on.... This whole situation is bullshit. You (wickerfan) are now the sole active mod on this forum essentially because Sistinas bitched and whined and kept pushing a laboured point until he pissed the old mods off enough that they walked away. Fuck 'in the interests of fairness'. This whole situation is total bullshit and has been instigated because a bunch of whiney assed fuckers have to cry about every little thing because they like being the centre of attention.

We are now stuck with one active mod... one active mod? So now if I step out of line or say something someone doesnt agree with then I am reliant on one person to give a fair, unbiased and balanced opinion on the matter. Totally fucked.

I think its fucking ironic that a group of people who cried about fairness and everyone being treated equally have now instigated a situation where we have only one active mod. Its a bad enough situation to be stuck with only one active mod, whoever it is, I just hope at least it is the person that the majority want it to be.

In short, I feel very uncomfortable with one active mod, regardless of who it is, but I feel even more uncomfortable with the way it has come about. Hopefully this issue can be handled in a fair and balanced way and we wont have to wait until the end of the year for a resolution that is best for the forum and its members, rather than just a handful of individuals who speak loudest and most often.

I think you have some valid points, and if the consensus is that an election should be held immediately, then so be it. Someone still needs to step forward though.

Yeah, I know you and I already talked about this, Wicker, but I also think we need more than one mod. I'd say at least three active ones. That way, you can have a division of labor and also something of a committee in order to make fair and balanced decisions. If everyone decides they want to have elections or whatever now, I think it should be for two more mods.

Unfortunately mods are appointed by the admin. ..i.e. Horror. If you notice Kpro and Austin are still mods and they haven't been on here for years. I'm not sure if zwoti is still here or not....he is a ninja so it's hard to tell.

Looks like we are stuck with what we got....not that it matters...the place is already a ghost town.

I assumed part of the problem is that the admin need to 'promote' mods... I'm guessing that is why NE handed his account details over in the first place.... I think regardless of the outcome of all this, I would like to see the admin contacted and for more mods to be put in place.

Yeah, that is right. But I think zwoti is still around. I know he's posted recently, so he'd be the one to contact.

Only administrators have the power to give someone's existing account moderating capabilities, and they're pretty elusive. I think it's a good idea to have more than one person making decisions, so if you're all right with this setup, we'll go ahead with it.

I've spoken to Zwoti since this happened, so he's still around. No other mods have shown up yet.

I haven't heard from him yet on this matter, so I'll wait for his input before anything is decided on.

Let us know as soon as you do. Several people have previously said that they would be happy to become mods (hammerfan, fortunato, Chronogrl, elvischrist) (but I don't know if they still want to do it) so I'd hope the more active mods we have here the better, even if anyone who wants to do it uses the same account as has been suggested as we have no chance of the admins promoting an account to mod status as this has been tried before. My $0.02:

I'm not OK with Wicker using NE's account and being the only active Mod.
We should have an election for Mods (and potentially Admins) ASAP.
I am more than happy to volunteer for either or both of those roles.

I think it's safe to say we need to fix this problem now. I haven't heard from Zwoti yet on this issue, hopefully I will in the next couple of days.

I don't know if we'll ever get anything from the admins. They haven't paid attention to previous pleas to do something about the lack of mods. I will try to get a hold of someone.
