You know that scene in the scary movie SCREAM when the killer asks Drew Berrymore What’s your favorite scary movie? Well none of these films would have been on her lips. Lol. So hilarious.

The Giant Claw needs to be on that list - the bird that's like...a "flying battleship"? :D
Must say, though, that T-Rex in The Mighty Gorga takes the cake.

Zigra, from Gamera vs. Zigra, the cats from Strays, the "killer shrews" from the film of the same name, the "giant leeches" from the film of the same name, Vince Vaughn in Psycho, Vince Vaughn in The Breakup, Vince Vaughn, the "giant" gila monster from the film of the same name (aaah, macrofocus!)and the chimp from The Monster Walks.

LOL
My boyfriend LOVES and owns both Attack of the Giant Leeches and Attack of the Killer Shrews... Two of his absolute favorite monster movies. I still need to see them both.

bahaha - I still haven't seen Basket Case, but that made me chuckle...
...
Not gonna lie - I was ridiculously disappointed in the "monster" in Fulci's House by the Cemetery.

The Giant Claw is a fun movie. One to waste some time eating popcorn and drinking a giant bucket of coke with ice or a few bottles of beer.
The bird is one of the worst monsters I have ever seen. If the special effects had been made realistic and evil, the movie would not have been half bad.
Jeff Morrow, the leading man, had never seen the film. When he went to his local theatre with his familyto see the film , he sneeked out of the movie using his coat collar to hide his face.
In The Killer Shrews, the shrews were dogs all haired up. Too bad Ray Harryhausen wasn't connected with that film.
The monsters in Attack Of The Giant Leeches were pretty bad as well.
Have never seen The Mighty Gorga so can't comment on that film.

These are what I call Fun movies. Grab yourself some popcorn, a bucket of iced coke or a bottle of beer and enjoy.
These films would not win any awards and they are not very good, but are fun to watch like Plan 9 From Outer Space. So bad that they are good.

From the picture I saw, the tree thing looked pretty cool.
I'd like to mention the Bert I Gordon film Empire Of The Ants. There's never any solid perspective of the Ants (different shots have them go from man-size to larger than a warehouse) and it's...it's just bad.

I have a soft spot for it, much in the same way I do for the alien beach ball in "Dark Star". But it cannot be denied that the Claw itself is pretty appalling :p

See for me i've always loved the old monsters that were made from puppets or someone in a costume and things like that because at least then the object was actually there. It may have looked like crap but it was a real solid tangible thing. Today's CGI still looks like crap and i know there's nothing there either for the actors to play against. Just kills it for me.

I think the modern reliance on CGI is a big misstep. I'm not against the technology per se and it's fine in small doses but I think it's overused. CGI should be used when the technology means that it's nearly indistinguishable from non-CGI. We're not really there yet and I think it'll be a while till we are.
Thing is 15 - 20 years down the line we're probably going to look at Transformers and their ilk as rather ugly.

tHE cREEPING tERROR...
The monster that is made mostly from carpet scraps and vacuum cleaner hoses...with some college students underneath to make it crawl like a snail, sort of...reeeeeealllly awful monster! But they probably had about twenty dollars to make it, though, so, I applaud their efforts.
Funny thing about this monster: It is so incapable of movement---it has no really recognizable features, barely has a mouth even...and the mouth is not much more than a hole in the carpet scraps. So: When the monster has to be seen eating people, the actors playing the "victims" can be seen crawling into the monster's mouth, while pretending to kick, scream and fight. Oh, this is so funny! MST3K had a stab at this awful film, too.
This film is so bad that for many years there was a debate about whether it actually existed. The stories about how bad it was were too crazy to be believed. Makes Plan 9 look like Gone with the Wind!
sounds like something from the original Doctor Who series

lol. I wish pipe cleaners would have been involved! They should remake this film with a huge budget just for the hell of it. lol.
So I'm still waiting for part 2 of the article to come out and I stumbled on something else funny on the Full Moon Horror Website. They're having a 50% off everything in their store sale next week and if a person drops $500 for a $1000 gift card they will receive an executive producer credit in the next Puppet Master film. This blows my mind - is this an ingenious idea, a 'we're broke and need money' idea or more aptly, both? lol.

I think it depends on the usage. For instance - and it's no coincidence that this is my favourite film - Jurassic Park excelled because of the CGI and I think it would have been a terrible mistake had they missed the opportunity and used Go-motion, as they were planning on doing. However, you are undoubtedly right that sometimes it is overused.
PERFECT example is Michael Bay, where the film lacks any substance and overuses "thrills" to the point that they become mundane and any notion of a visual spectacle is watered down due to the sheer frequency of it. Similarly, I was watching The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen the other day and was actually very pleased that they opted for physical effects on Mr. Hyde because, as the Villain says, it's far nicer when you're aware that something is tangible.
But nonetheless, the Giant Claw is charmingly shit :D
