I just couldn't finish it!

If you are a reader, at times you will come across a book that you feel is so horrible that you cannot finish reading it. We are all different, so I expect what one person considers the worst may be on another person's favorite list. Without any arguments or name calling please tell us what you believe to be the worst book you have ever tried to read but couldn't finish. It could be a list of books if you wish. Please explain why you feel this way.

For me it would have to be Lisa W. Cantrell's The Manse. It felt completely generic to me as if she just through a bunch of cliche characters into that old overused haunted house story.

Well, I did finish it, but the worst book I've read in quite some time was RL Stine's Superstitions. It's supposed to be for an adult audience, but it was just terrible. Cliche plot, wooden characters, stilted dialogue... I don't know why I even finished it.

Stephen King wasn't involved in writing The Night Room, that was all Straub. They only wrote The Talisman and Black House together.

Sorry, just Peter. I own it but haven't read it yet and now I'm a bit apprehensive but I know that Straub can be difficult to read at times. A Dark Matter was excellent though, at least I thought so.

Yeah, Straub's stuff can be slow reading for me too, but I find it well worth it to finish his books as when I look at them as a whole I find them very intriguing works. Ghost Story was dull at first for me, but when it finally did pick up for me I found myself liking the parts I had previously found dull.

A Dark Matter I found enjoyable, although I am not sure if I could call it Horror.

There are elements of it that are horrific. but the format the story is told in makes it difficult to make the reader feel scared for the characters as...

The horrific event has already happened and the whole book is the protagonist trying to figure out what happened.

I can agree with that, it is told mostly in flashbacks.

iv got dark matter sitting in my collection yet to be read,doesnt sound that appealing soo far,and after night room im a bit put off straub as that would only be the second book i would have read of his,i was also given the hellfire club which sounds more interesting

All I can say to you is don't let one bad book deter you, Straub is an excellent writer so don't give up on him. I haven't read Hellfire Club yet so I can't say one way or another on it.

Dont worry ill end up reading both,i mean its not like every s.king book was amazing.
straight after the ramsey cambpell book im about to start,oh and the neil gaiman iv got lined up after that,then will get onto it

I've only read to Campbell books, The Face That Must Die and Coldprint. Face was cool, all from the killer's perspective. Coldprint was a great piece of the Cthulhu Mythos. Got any suggestions of more Campbell books, I do own Incarnate, it looks interesting.

Bob Gray, Hellfire Club is amazing. Not really horror at all, more like suspense/mystery, but by far one of the BEST BOOKS I've ever read!
